My Dream Combo... Finally!

Great looking combo! I like the way the amp is hidden from the crowd. I'm awaiting a quote from Don right now on a 212 with a 2 slot rack. My plan is to have him make it vertical, and put the porting in between, to further raise the top 12. I'm gonna spring for some rack ears, drop my shuttle 6 in there, and have him wire it up as 8ohm. That would give me 300w for day to day in a nice small package, (probably around 50lb) but when I need more, all I have to do is throw my Flite 155 under there (26lb) and baBOOM: Instant big room/stage rig!

The question now is: to horn, or not to horn?

Sorry... forgot to include a pic with the casters installed. Pretty cool eh?

Okay... so I had the chance to try it out with my drummer yesterday (just the two of us). Wow! This little rig pumps. Plenty of volume and fat tone. Big bottom, tight mids, and this horn sounds great cranked up. A played around with the EQ quite a bit, and found I didn't need much of it (at least not for that room). Anyone who thinks this head has no bottom end needs to try it with this cab... 'cause it's got tonz of low end. I actually found myself playing with the bass EQ in a flatter position than the others. The built-in compressor is nice too. It doesn't squeeze like my BBE ;) , but it is a nice feature. One thing I didn't try is tube engaged vs. disengaged. I left it engaged the whole time. I also didn't mess with the graphic EQ, the tone shaping knobs seemed to give me everything I need and more. So... bottom line... I stick to my original assessment, this amp could probably handle any small to medium gig without breaking a sweat. It is LOUD! The real test will be competing with a guitar half stack though. I should be able to give that a shot later this week. :)

nice rig. pretty much looks like the Mesa Walkabout arrangement for holding the amp in the back slot of the cab, only with a 2x10, instead of 1x12 or 1x15. FWIW, Mesa is also an all USA built unit.

It's a good design and I personally think it works better than the Genz "saddle" arrangement for the various 3.0/6.0 T combo's they have out. (no dis intended to GB or all of their happy owners here )

It seems as if you could have LDS make this set-up for just about any driver combination and have a very nice combo set-up.

Now if I could get Don to cop an Accugroove Tri115 style cab design, and add a slot for an MPulse600, I'd be in combo heaven.

enjoy!

Aesthetically I agree with you 100%. And I also like to be able to look straight down and see the knob settings like you can with this design.

However, what absolutely kills with the Shuttle stuff is the ability to have the head out of the saddle by just twisting two thumb screws. That is a feature that I absolutely loved with my little 3.0 combo

So I like both approaches for different reasons, I suppose ... ;)

And to the OP, like everyone has said ... *very* cool little setup you have there now!

Cheers,
Liam
