NAD! SVT7 Pro (also comparing it to my Streamliner 900)

I think that's a great choice as you like yr pf500 so much. I've never played the pf500 to it's limits, so can't describe how much louder the 7 pro is, but I think it'll really please you.
Outdoor gig tomorrow in a smallish venue. Considered the SVT VR but this thread has me settled on breaking out the 7 Pro paired up with 2 Berg HS210's. Vertical stacking might just be the nuts too! Using 75 Pbass with LaBella flats and 2002 PBass with ProSteels to cover 70's. 80's, and some current stuff. Drums, Keys, 2 guitars, female vox...should be interesting and will report back.
I had a great gig in a smallish pub last night with the PF500/BF super twelve, I was consciously wanting an SVT Pro7 but in reality the PF was more than adequate, one thing I would like is more `colour` in the mids if you know what I mean .
My settings last night; (based on the clock face)
Comp - off
Gain - 1.30
Ultra hi/lo - off
Bass - 3
Middle - max
Mid switch - 5
Treble - 12
Master - 1.30
I had to boost the bass and mid as the venue was very busy and seemed to suck all the tone out of my amp ?

Wow, that's a lot of mids!
If the pf500's enough headroom for you, cool. Should be, if you've enough speaker area etc...
Also, I'm guessing you wouldn't like a STL much if you like yr mids. YMMV, but that's my take

Wow! I love my SVT VR...but the 7Pro was just perfect in every aspect yesterday. I had no problem cutting though the stage mix and nice carry out to the venue. I think the Berg HS2x10's really helped with the clarity and adding to the "old school" bass sounds that work for the music selections we did.
I went with one Berg horizontal and one vertical stacked. The horizontal Berg has heavy rubber isolation feet, so I figured that would be best to keep the rig uncoupled from the wooden stage. The vertical cab gave me some lattitude to angle the cab towards the drummer as a monitor....and not take off any heads in front of me.
This set up really surprised me on how well it worked and never touched my EQ the entire night! Used fingers and pick for some tunes and made minor attack position adjustments and occasional tone knob adjustment on the PBass. No amp knob fiddling..I just played and enjoyed the night with great/ classic Ampeg bass tone.

Ok,ive owned and gigged the 7pro for almost a year and recently traded it to a fellow talkbass buddy...I really am having a hard time with this one,on one hand i miss my 7pros compressor at high volumes. I play metal,detuned and dirty,the 7pro had a clearer take no prisoners tone. The mid switch never had me not cutting through the huge wall of guitars i needed,and never a lack of overall head room at ungodly volumes...But the STL900 has a better tone,deeper,fatter,warmer sonic footprint that im trying to gain control of! But,im missing the mid punch,grindy Ampeg voicing dearly. I really want to keep my GB STL900 and harness its semi scooped tube tone bad,ive rolled some tubes and that helped,but which head to you think does metal better? I LOVE fat bass tones which the Genz does GREAT,i dont know thru my 810e if i can project the low end articulation AND mids my 7pro had at stupid volumes? The STL900s PEAK LIGHT comes on a bit too often,JUST when i think ive found what id consider AMAZING tone that kills! Is the STL900 maybe a more power blues voiced amp? I play an active Spector Euro 5str,very hot pickups/preamp. Should i go back to the 7pro and dial up the lows to mimick what i love about the STL900? I really wanna stick with my Streamliner,but cant find those punchy,forward mids that use to get me heard in the mix,but the STL900s lows are amazing&warm! Help,im losing my mind,stick with the 900 and work with the EQ and try to get more mid punch or go back to my trusty 7pro and loose that tube amp fatness? I just want to find MY sound,which seems to be somewhere between the two heads performance...I hate to be a whiny gear nut,but whats the answer folks? Sounds like you need just a little extra mid control by something outboard. I am the same with my STM900. Currently I use my Darkglass B7K to boost at 2.5K and use the amps 600Hz boost. I have an EBS BMC on order which, on paper, looks like a match in heaven for the streamliner.
You are right that the 7Pro cannot do what the streamliner does. However, with a little extra outboard EQ, IMO the streamliner can do everything the 7Pro does. All just IMO, IME etc, etc.

i have no problem getting a huge low end with my 7Pro. and i really love the SL900's big warm tone too, but i consider it to always be a softer/ smoother sounding amp no matter how i eq it. in a way, i think that you may have answered your own question.
Your post makes me really glad I just pulled the trigger on a 7 pro instead of a STM900.
But John's clips were the definite deciding factor.
I love my Streamliner, but I'm not sure its a great pairing with a Ampeg 810
Streamliner works better with cabs that have that mid grind built into them.
PLEASE remember that the 7pro is NOT better than the Streamliner & vice versa, its all about cab pairings & what you want for tone
My GK NEOs have no bottom end & tons of mids, The 7pro wouldn't be a good pairing for me with these cabs. I'd rather have the SL. If I had an Ampeg 810, I'd grab the 7pro

Very true, and this applies to a lot of other amps as well. I don't like the 7-Pro is better than my SVT-VR, but for MY sound, I prefer it.
I will be getting a 7 Pro when funds allow, I just wonder how it will sound with my Barefaced Super Twelve -awesome I imagine
