beautiful. Is the carbon fiber a cosmetic addition only on the headstock or does it show up somewhere structural (not that reinforcing a headstock with carbon fiber isn't structural)

IIRC they did the carbon fiber cap on the TL-Six only. I always felt the TL basses had the one of the smallest Peavey style headstocks made. The only theory I could come up with is that enough wood may have been removed for the tuners on the six string version they felt the need to add some reinforcement. I'm probably way off but who knows.
Cirrus basses also have the carbon fiber overlay on the headstock. As far as I know, it's just cosmetic.
I played the new one for a while tonight and it's 100% functional and sounds good. I just need to do a setup now. Once I tuned it up, it had way too much relief in the neck, so the action is currently way on the high side.

Beautiful bass, congrats! I remember seeing these back in the mid 90s and I always thought they were the coolest bass Peavey made.
Great score Stu... That passive tone is a huge plus. I am really digging my C6 ... Getting more comfy with it. I think Peavey basses are so underrated.... I really did not know just how good they are until I got one. So what was the weight on that? I remember seeing one a while back but the seller said it was 10+ lbs....

I haven't weighed it yet, but I do see in my notes that the TL5 I used to have was 10.6#. My SX Jazz 6 is a hair under 11 and this TL6 feels lighter than that. I'll weigh it sometime this weekend.
I definitely need to work on the setup, though. I only played for maybe an hour and a half last night and my left hand fingertips are sore! They don't normally get sore, but I guess the extra pressure required because of the action being high was enough. It's got the sound, though! And combined with my new Peavey MiniMEGA 1000 amp that I was using last night, it sounded fantastic, even at the low volume I was constrained to last night.
I built a lot of my own bass preferences around the Cirrus. A big part of that was the radiused pickups, which I use like a ramp. I also get the free space between pickups, unlike ramps.

I fawned over this bass as a teanager. Many years later when I caught the collecting bug I scored a TL-5. But is just wasn't a TL-6.

I've got the same bass in the same color no less! Six string as well! And the battery cover is not broken! 
Yippee!! This arrived today. An eBay score. Thank goodness (for me), the seller really had bad pictures posted. I suspect if he had had good pictures posted, this would have been snatched up by someone else and for a much higher price.
It is not MINT, but it is in really, really good shape. I haven't gotten to plug it in yet, though. It does have one tuner replaced with a matching Gotoh. You can easily see the difference in person, from the back. Fortunately, I have a little stash of the stock tuners, so I can swap it out to look all original.
I have another 1st Gen TL6 in honeyburst. I got this because I like the color better and it's in a little better shape cosmetically. As long as the electronics check out okay, I'll be selling my other one.
Thus, I already know how a TL6 sounds and plays and love it! This one feels very comparable in weight to my other one, too. So, I'm expecting to see a number less than 10# on my digital scale.
An active/passive P/P bass. Possibly the most underrated configuration in all of Bassdom. Neck-through body. Ebony board. 3-band EQ in active, passive tone control in passive. If it had a sweepable mid frequency, it would really be my ideal setup. Too bad nobody makes that...
The battery box door looks okay... but it's broken, just like all of 'em. But, the broken-off tab is actually in there. I'm going to have to see if I can fix it with some superglue. What looks like a white line there is just a reflection off the edge of the upper lid.
I don't know why the carbon fiber in this looks so yellow. I guess it's just the lighting. It's not yellow in person. Or not nearly as much so, anyway.
