NCD! Avatar SB126.

I'm with Alaska Lefty, I like having a speaker for highs instead of the tweeter alone, or a version of this 12/6 with an added tweeter. I was never a fan of the aluminum-cone Hartkes, but always really liked the 410 they made with the 5" driver in the middle.

I've asked and had it explained to me more than once (MORE than once!) why that's a Good Thing to have frequency response up into the teens or out to 20k, but for the life of me I still don't understand it, and just a little more articulation from something like this layout just sounds better to me.

Well I took a chance and bought an Avatar SB126 4-ohm cab. Mine has the standard Eminence Delta 12LF speaker. I played 3 gigs with it this weekend and it sounded great with my Markbass Little Marcus 250 and TC Electronic BH250. I can hear myself perfectly in gig situations. The 6 inch mid really lets me hear the high notes on my P Bass. I also debadged the cab as well. I think it looks great. The only downside is that it is heavy for a 1x12 cab (about 45 lbs). Other than that I think Avatar has a real winner here and for $438 shipped to my door I believe that it is a real bargain.

Nice buy. I’ve been debating trying some of their cabs with the neo speakers. Just wish that had some different models like a 215 or vertical 212 maybe. One of our guitar players has two of the avatar 212 cabs and they are built very well imo.

He still has room for expansion, as you yourself said, with a power amp, if he so chooses. Or, he can do what I did, and get a Shuttlemax 12.2, an excellent bass head, imho. The world of bass amps is changing; Genzler, Mesa Boogie, etc. is now designing heads that go to 2 ohms, if needed. Maybe I'm wrong but it seems like every time someone pops up with a 4 ohm cab purchase, you are there telling them they " should have followed advice ". I believe this is the second thread recently where you have " tsk tsk'd " 4 ohm cabs.
Yeah that thinking seems a little old to me now. I have two 8 ohms cabs and my Mesa amp will run at 2 ohms. So my next cab(s) will likely be 4ohms not 8. Amps that could handle 2ohms were rare for a while. I even had some funky ones like the swr 750 which could run a 2.6 or whatever with a 4 ohm and 8 ohm cab together. But the Mesa can handle 2 ohms.

Looks nice. Back when I was cab shopping a few years ago a pair of these Deltalite Neos were on my short list. I wasn't sure if they would be loud enough for the band I was in so I got a 610 instead. These have always looked nice to me though and maybe one day I'll go to a 123/126 combo. Keep us posted on the longevity of this thing. When I was shopping I didn't find too many reviews or threads on these, which led me to go with something more reviewed and something I was able to try in person.

Agreed. They used to have more models and color options, but I guess Dave decided to make things simpler. Not really a bad thing I guess.

For years I have always looked at Avatar Cabs, but never would pull the trigger due to the reasons you mentioned. I'm glad I made this purchase. The quality of this cab IMO is on par with its much higher priced counterparts. I had an 8 ohm Mesa/Boogie Traditional Powerhouse that was around $650, and this sounds way better and is constructed about the same. I'm so happy I took the leap!

I recently snagged a used SB126. It literally just arrived maybe an hour ago and is sitting behind me at work. Haven't even had a chance to open up the cab, inspect, plug it in or anything. It's also a 4-ohm cab, just like yours. I would have preferred 8-ohm for better expansion potential but for $260 shipped I thought it was too good of a steal to pass up, especially considering it has the Kappalite (or so the ad said - I haven't verified this).

Mine's wrapped in carpet that's still in good shape but I plan on removing it and either refinish in Duratex or go with a wood finish.

I think you will love it. Yeah I'm glad they stopped using carpet. I would duratex the cab if I were you. Have you had a chance to try it out?

Kind of depends on what the cab looks like once the carpet is removed (if I even decide to remove it). If it's worthy of a natural wood finish then I might sand it smooth and give it a nice clear coat. Otherwise, I'm thinking Duratex on the exterior and either painting the baffle or natural finish. I'll start my own "New Cab Day" thread at some point with photos and updates.

Oh and no, I haven't tried it out yet. All of my gear is scattered in various locations and I haven't had a chance to get everything together.

4 ohm Kappalite speakers are no longer an option, I guess. I tried to order a4 ohm sb126 with a kappalite and got an email saying that speaker is discontinued.

Decided to roll the dice on the standard ceramic delta. CS was decent, as others have mentioned.

Figured I'd add my 2 cents on the Avatar 126.

I like it quite a lot. Its replacing a massive Hartke 215 for me and so far is handling the job well. Its sitting under my Super redhead and adds a lot of low end to the SWR without the globby mush of bass from the 215. The 215 was great but its SOOOOOO much low end its hard to EQ out. Everyone in my band hated that cab.

I have to say, I really struggle to hear the 6" speaker. I guess I've lost some hearing on the high end or something. At first I wasn't even sure it was working, I had to use feedback while turning the knob to be sure it was doing anything. Not knocking it at all, I just don't hear it that well.

Overall, pretty impressed with the cab. Heard mixed reviews on the Delta 12lf but its sounds pretty badass in this cab. I hammered this cab pretty hard last weekend and it didn't break a sweat.
