Class T is adspeak for one particular iteration of Class D that used to be fairly popular. Class I is another one like that as well. In any case, it's a switching amp with a non-switching power supply, hence the higher weight than the D/SMPS amps.

The best Class D heads I've owned and gigged are the Genzler 800 and AG700. I've had the Mesa 800 and 800+ and while they was good the tone of the Genzler and AG700 was far better IMO. The new Aguilar is somewhat warm but also does clear very well. The Deep and High Switch on the Ag700 is far more usable for me than that of the Mesa. I was impressed with the punch this has in the low and low mids while retaining clarity.

Completely agree - The D800 is a great tone, very clear tones. But the AG700 is on another level of tone, headroom, and girth. Campbems is right -the deep, and bright switches are very usable/musical. They add very nice coherent presence; from there you can add or subtract depending on the room. The headroom on this amp is great! I can only compare it to the headroom of (dare I say), the DB751. Its clean and powerful. Whether your driving, soloing, or laying down a solid foundation, it will make you smile. Currently using SL410x [4 Ohm], and AG700 and have not felt the need for a 2nd 410 - its that good.

I own a Subway D800 but was thinking about upgrading to the D800+ for the extra features, bright switch and High pass filter. You guys have me considering the AG700 now. I am looking for full thick bottom but with clarity in the highs. Will the AG700 surpass the Subway amps in that regard? Also, Aguilar claims 700 watt continuous watts. How does that compare to the Mesa D800+? Is the 800 watt rating on the Mesa D800+ continuous as well?

Just got a chance to A/B the AG700 with the Trickfish .5K and Puma 900. My initial reaction was that the AG700 would sound great with my fretless in the way it handles the mids. I think it still fits in the Aguilar tone family albeit deeper, brighter and quicker than the TH500. Sounds great out of the box especially the deep and bright switches. The Trickfish has similar heft behind the notes with just a tad more grit and what seems like smoother transient response. Overall, the Trickfish seems in another league entirely with thoughtful EQ points and the ability to switch them.

I haven't heard the Trickfish yet but I understand it has no fan (so no fan noise) is that correct?

And as for headroom, does the "smoothness" and grit increase the louder you go?

One downsize (pun intended) to the Trickfish is the size. My first-call cab is 14" x 14". I hate having amps hang off cabs.

How does the AG 700 sound compared to the Puma 900?
It sounds like the Trickfish is smoother than the AG 700?

I'm running a GK700RB into an Aguilar cabinet and was interested in the TH's as backup or possible to take to studio but haven't had a chance to ever try one. What's the main differences between the AG & TH? I know very little about them but figured I'd ask since this thread is loaded with Aguilar knowledge & experience.

I would like to know the tone differences as well between the TH 500 and AG 700.
I'm using a TH Pedal at the moment and I really like the tone. No AGS engaged.
I like the clean sound. I'm wondering if the AG can be adjusted to sound similar.
I called Aguilar and was told they have totally different tone stacks.

Right now I'm considering dumping my TH 500 for either the mesa or the ag700. I'm partial to the mesa due to not so great experiences with the TH 500 which I find thin, clacky, yet still honky and very underpowered. Some people describe it as warm, but I find it the opposite, actually. I noticed the AG 700's deep is a plus 6db at 250hz. Where is the mesa's?
