New Build: Walnut Jazz Bass

...I thought about it....I was searching the web.. came across a site (guitar site) where the guy was talking about... that the frets won't hold.on a walnut fretboard.....I did not want to take that chance..That topwood is awesome.
I'm sad about no walnut fretboard, but the yellowheart is nice.
Not to seal this thread at all, but how do you like that planer? I looked at that in Home Depot, but it's a little pricey for me right now. I also looked at the handheld power planer by Ryobi.
Also, that maple is amazing! I'm looking forward to see it all finished.

A hint for everyone contemplating setting up a shop. Go to the Home Depot commercial accounts desk and ask for the manager. Tell them that you are setting up a instrument building shop, and will be buying alot of expensive equipment over time. They will set you up as a commercial account and you will get at least 10% off all future purchases as long as you pay through the commercial desk. I did a major landscaping job @ home last year, where I spent alot of money over the course of a couple months, and went this route. I STILL have the account open, and get 10 - 15% off of anything I buy.
I actually used a walnut fingerboard on my last build as, for personal reasons, the customer refused to consider anything else. Every fret will have to be glued into place. It really is a ridiculous amount of work.
An alternative would be to cover a fully shaped ebony fingerboard with a walnut veneer and then slot it. Beautiful work so far.

Body and neck shots I dont think.. well I know I will not be going with the walnut neck.. I dont like how the yellowheart looks on the body (maple top) Im now in between African mahogany neck / maple or maple neck / walnut I dont know about the fret board.. well I have a piece of Mexican bocote that looks got on the maple top ..

....I was planing on not using it Bcause of the fretboard.. I did not like the way it looked on the top... then I discover.. that I went throw.back of the neck.......lol... (truss rod) and as I was getting my bridge center I notice that my taper was not str8... I believe that happen Bcause I use my mouse on the side of the neck instead of a str8 edge.. my template is str8...but i went ahead and made another neck template..this time using my 48" ruler 8th of an (") thick as a str8 edge.....oh well... Im going to iron off the FB... I want my Truss Rod BACK..!!
P.S. I don't know how you guys do it for customers/.... to stressful..well it can B....money... money.. money.. moneyyyyyyyyyyyy
That is quite an insane top on this build! From a purely artistic point of view, I would opt for an Ebony or EI Rosewood fretboard because, with such a wild top, anything else would compete with the stunning visual of the spalted top. Also, the very dark color of the fretboard would "pop" the fine black lines of the spalt itself.....(in my humble and usually worthless opinion)
