The Baxandall EQ is a departure from the Neve concept, but if they've captured the general tone with the transformer and whatnot this could be cool anyway.

I wonder if they directly copied Neve circuitry or if someone else already did that and JHS simply discovered that product and had the lord help them release it.

you could buy a vintech X73i channel strip, analyze the circuit and design a circuit that's similar to it to get it close.

This is amazing! You naysayers do realize that Neve produces actual 1073 api 500 series preamps that are only SLIGHTLY larger than this pedal, right? Completely feasible that this could sound super close/dead on to that sound.

Yes, but they don't run on a 9v power supply.

That is the first thing I thought when I read about this pedal. It would be very interesting to try out that combination.

1) The naysaying is mostly not about size. It's partly about the past products from this builder, and largely skepticism about the type and quality of components used (compared to the originals).

2) Current Neve products are themselves modern remakes by a company that owns Neve's name. So it's unclear how much of a metric they are for the "famous Neve sound".
