Well, I was interested in this. Thank goodness for demos. I am betting this is much better for guitar. Perhaps it was his playing style that made it sound so thumpy. It really lacked the definition that I expect from a Neve board.

Except Fulltone was doing something that very few were doing at the time. Taking production models or out of production models and giving them a professional build. JHS taking pedals that are currently being built by other builders and copying them isn't quite the same thing. Especially with their supposed moral leanings.

Could very well be the playing style. I found that the previous overview was better on bass, but who knows.

I really wish they would just figure out how to use the foot switch as a foot switch. It was a bit ridiculous how he'd stop playing and pivoted super fast to try to turn it on and off before the next note.

I'm actually confused about how the sound is being captured in this demo. Is it from just the XLR output, or is it a blend between the XLR and the mic'd SVT-VR?

JHS apparently copied Devi Ever's Hyperion for their Astro Mess, but claimed it was an original idea. Then they talked smack to distributors about Devi leading them to drop her from distribution. I also heard that they copied some PCBs from folks like MadBean. The 'moral leaning' part I assume refers to Josh's Christianity.

Those are the key points. Also, in general JHS pedals are just bog-standard clones of other pedals (Muff, Honeybee, Tubescreamer, Orange Squeezer, etc. etc.), yet they are talked up by fanbuyers like the third coming, so there is an "emperor's new clothes" feel to the whole thing.

hmmmm., even when very heavily clipped my original Neve modules never clipped as ugly as that pedal does in that bass clip.

Pretty much the high points. Quite a few of their pedals have been traced and found out to be stock copies of other peoples stuff.

That demo didn't exactly thrill me. When I read what the eq centers were I thought they were not so good for bass. Listening to that demo, I thought it was not voiced very well for bass. So I'm not surprised.
