New Gittler Basses!

Now having said that in defense of the OP, I offer the strange likeness of the Gittler fretless with a Gattling Gun from the A-10 Warthog:

8 inch Tactical Nuclear Capable Howitzers. Our unit always had the best Thanksgivings because a lot of brass would meet in FA in Baumholder that time of year.
Yeahhhh I would not want to have that Gatling aimed at me HA HA.
I wrote my congressman because they're trying to replace the Flying Tank with the F-35. Somebody smoking their socks on that one... we need the Hog protecting our ground troops...
Nice chatting with you..

Perhaps if the OP had posted a picture of the bass instead of something that looks like a Gattling gun from the A-10 Warthog then maybe TB'ers might have had a better understanding of the instrument:

Also, it doesn't help that the OP has a nasty backbite when someone doesn't agree with him. His mistake? He bit on the troll bait.

This is an interesting thought. I wonder if someone with some welding skills is actually considering cloning this idea? It doesn't need to titanium does it?
I would buy a clone if it didn't cost that much. Look at the Hondo Steinbergers.... how many others have been cloned?
I'm toying with the idea of making one out of chromed steel. It's a very easy thing to make really but getting all the cuts for the frets at exactly the right depth to avoid buzz would be time consuming. For a bass that's only real appeal (to me) is the novelty factor, I think I won't bother.

I'm seriously considering it for a winter project. I have not selected one this year yet... Last year was building an Intel 8088 based clone from a soviet-era design using soviet chips.

A quick estimate (very quick with lots of trial and error) I would say about 90-120 hours of machining/cutting, 30-40 hours of welding, and about $1k in materials (I know I'm definitely out of gas, need new electrodes, and... I have no stainless at all).

@Red Planet

Edit: I find the "Heil..." comment distasteful. YMMV. Seems this is amusing to some, especially since Gittler was Jewish. I'll just add:

אני צריך לחיות כל עוד לראות סוף לאנטישמיות.

Perhaps, when 6 million plus of "your people" are systematically annihilated, some perspective will be gained, or not? I'm guessing you find jokes about 9/11 amusing too?

Peace.

Seriously? Really, seriously? You're going to guilt someone by implying that they're an anti-Semite because of what you consider a distasteful joke (which clearly had no ill-will attached)? There's quite the huge difference between anti-Semitism and missing the mark (to some) with a joke. Your entire issue with this, in the first place, seems to be that someone used what you consider a heavy term with little regard for it's actual meaning/importance. You'd do yourself a favour to not toss about heavy language while complaining about the tossing about of heavy language.

I do recall somebody talking about the importance of thick skin at some point... hmm...
