New Ibanez (headless, multiscale)

I think the original intent of a locking jack was more about the musician accidentally stepping on their own cable and then pull it out of the jack. It certainly isn't to pull down a stack of amps, trip other musicians, or dangle off of a mountain. How many people here had a locking jack save their asses during a performance or in other situations? I'm curious whether it's as useful as the person who designed it think it might be.

I'm sure that was the original intent and even if that is the case, It typically is only going to address that case when the jack is normally down-facing. If I'm not mistaken, on the EHBs it is more rear facing so unless you are holding it up vertically, personally stepping on the cable would not pull at an angle that pops it out.

My guess is that some factory parts manager was looking to unloads these and Ibby figured they could justify the price better with "added value"

More like "added frustration."

It's not plugged in. He's gonna die.

really the best solution is the easiest (when wearing a strap):

Loop the cable through the strap to give you some "emergency slack" and then you can also see if it shifts you are pulling too far (you can feel it too if your arm is in the right position).

If someone's foot catches on it, you'll get a lil tug before it goes tight so you can react or the tripper reacts.

The Neutrik locking jack is standard on the Ibanez BTB series. I own a couple and I mainly gig with one of my BTBs, so I'm quite familiar with the locking jack thing and I could take out my cable plug without hassle. Still, I've never seen any advantage of the locking jack, as I've never been in any situation where my cable was accidentally stepped on and pulled out. Mostly because I'm on wireless, but I do use cable when rehearsing.

The plate with the tele jack is plastic.
The plate without a pre drilled hole is metal. I got the plastic one as a tryout. I cannot buy the metal one in Sweden without a hefty shipping cost. The plastic one was $2.5 over the counter at the local store. I disconected the plastic tele jack and installed a switchcraft.

How is the tone on this bass? I am definitely interested in checking this one out! Trying to find a versatile bass that can cover many options as I can't have as many basses as my GAS would allow ;P I just wish I could go to a store an try this out for myself/do comparisons.

(considering this one, the G&L 2500 tribute, or a Yamm bb735a)

It's a great sounding bass. I have a 1505MS coming this week, and a 1005MS currently. I have several videos on the EHB1005MS if you'd like to check them out. I go over the construction, tones, etc. youtube.com/lowendlobster

Hope it helps :)
