Well, that answers that. Grubaur to the Avs along with Orpik, for a second round pick.
Basically a much needed salary dump for the Caps.
Grubauer is still a RFA, so it ain't over yet. The trade just gives the Avs a week to lock him up.
No surprise, they already put Orpik on waivers.
I knew i should have waited a few hours before the above post...Grubauer signs a three-year $10M deal with Colorado. Odd because he wanted to be a starter, not platoon with the established Varlamov.
Also hearing the rumor that Orpik will re-sign with the Caps but at a reduced rate from his $5M salary the past four seasons.

There must be something up with dougie Hamilton. A young decent defenseman traded twice already? Attitude issue maybe?
Re Hamilton: Supposedly he's more of loner type than a 'team' guy. Reportedly he doesn't always hang out with his teammates, but I still haven't read anything about being disliked or anything like that.
The Flames are rolling the dice here. There is that very slight chance they can't re-sign either of the former Hurricanes. Doubtful but still a possibility. Having Bill Peters in Calgary now helps.

I was hoping with the (lack of) defensive show at the end of the season / post season, they would've picked more than 1 D. Oh well.
Totally agree with that assessment, but the truth is these later round picks likely won't see NHL ice for a few years. The Pens D needs revamped TODAY!
Rust signed a four year deal to stay with the Pens. Rumor has it Crosby is wanting a Kunitz return.

I’m just sitting here waiting for John Tavares to sign with the Leafs.
Wouldn't mind seeing an Orpik return, too. Especially after his strong showing in the playoffs.
Logic keeps saying JT will stay on the Island. But part of me thinks he might shock us by signing with a team like St. Louis or San Jose. And don't count out Tampa Bay. Even though the cap room isn't there at the moment Yzerman is capable of pulling this off. Gonna be interesting, methinks.
Hate to see Sheary go but absolutely thrilled Hunwick is off the payroll. Worst signing in recent history. Should have gotten more than a 4th though. Botterill sticking it to his former boss!
Agree on both. I wonder what Rutherford is lining up for. Moving Sheary is disappointing.
