NHL Regular Season 2017-18

"Anyone can have a bad half-century or so." - uttered by just about every Red Sox (including me), White Sox, and Cubs fan until fairly recently. The Red Sox won in the fourth season of the American League's second century.
So holidays off...

I don't even know what to make of that CBJ/PIT game.
Columbus is the better team.
I'll watch it, but I'm not expecting much from the Pens.

Well I’m hoping it’s a decent game. But if Pittsburgh phones it in, definitely going to be wondering about them
That's about how I feel at this point. Lots of minutes being used by the Pens players on their phone plans this season.
Sullivan ran Reaves out there with Crosby in the last game these two played, and that was a great move in my opinion. Provided some life for the Pens.

The B's went into the break red hot, I'm hoping that they can continue tonight at home against the Sens. It looks like 3rd pair D Adam McQuade has recovered from a broken leg that he got blocking shots earlier this year, but the B's are going so well they may leave the current 3rd pairing as is (Kevan Miller and rookie Matt Grzelcyk). Grzelcyk is a local kid from Charlestown went to Boston University and his dad and older brother are on the TD Garden bull gang - doesn't get more Boston than that.
One Globe writer speculated that the B's might go with 7 defensemen to work McQuade back into the lineup. It is great to finally have some depth at that position.

All kidding aside, he's won everything he possibly could have won. As an amateur, a professional, an Olympian, etc, etc. Some may not like his whining in his younger days (me included), but he's become one of the best leaders in the league, and I wouldn't select anybody else to lead my team. He may not have the intimidating swagger of a Messier, but there are so many little things he does that get noticed by insiders and aficionados that contribute to his superstardom. He is definitely slowing down at age 30, but I still think he's got some miles left in the tank.

He's an awesome playmaker, can take over games when he needs to, involves his teammates very well, but nothing about the guy in my mind says leader.
I thought he would grow out of it by now, I sure didn't expect it when he was younger and thrust into the spotlight, but nope.

Are you hearing any more trade rumors out of the 'burgh? My son tells me at Christmas that now Letang is being shopped. First Cole, now 58. Funny thing is I wanted him gone so badly back in '13 or '14, but now I can't picture him wearing anything but a Pens jersey.

I haven't heard the Letang rumors, but it doesn't surprise me.
I'm torn on Letang. I think he brings a steadiness and skill to the ice, but I also think he's full of himself now.
However, I don't know that removing one of your better defenders is going to solve any problems when the blue line is your problem.

I like to expect more from the Pens, but, the back-to-back Cups is pretty awesome still. They are obviously struggling this year and falling farther behind every game. I won't at all be upset if they miss the playoffs entirely this season. I feel they have some big issues that they need to address, and the recent moves have not been in the right areas. Hopefully with a year or so of time to refocus and rebuild they can be a serious contender. They have great nights every so often, but, very inconsistent. I like to lay a lot of this on Murray, but, the defense as a whole is just not performing well most nights.

I just turned it off. With ~30 seconds to go in the period the Pens showed a spark of life and had good offensive zone time... then a bad pass which lead to a great opportunity. Story of the season pretty much.
I'm a glutton for punishment. Plus, I am keeping track of all the glove side highs.
I'll be around for the second and third.
Sheesh Malkin.......standing around with your stick up your behind on both of those goals. I feel bad for Murray when guys like Malkin are standing around on the ice like that.
