Caught the end of the CBJ/Pens game tonight. I can't explain how much I enjoyed watching the Pittsburghs getting thumped and Nyquist's hat trick was icing (so to speak) on the cake.
Meh, I don't know. From what I'd read, Peters got physical with some players on the bench. When it was reported, Francis looked into it, reprimanded him, and Peters was told it must not happen again. And it apparently did not. Francis dealt with the issue, kept it in-house, and felt no need to publicize it. Owner Karmanos said he never knew about it and would have fired Peters on the spot, but he may be doing his own spin on whether Francis told him about it or not. I'm not ready to condemn Francis yet (unless there's more damning evidence to come out).
That's another way to look that it that I didn't consider.
I don't believe it needed to be public knowledge, but if it was hid from the owner, that's bad.

But if Francis thought it was resolved, did he need to? It was within his scope and duties
I'd think so for these type of allegations. They are quite serious in my opinion. Minor issues I wouldn't bother the owner with.

I disagree. What he said wasn't a "mistake" or an "accident". They are the words of a racist.
It might be excusable if this behavior took place when he was young and ignorant or in an environment where everyone said things like that, but that's not the case, here. He was in his mid 40's and certainly knew full well that what he was saying couldn't possibly be construed as anything but racist.
Still, people can change. Perhaps he was a bigot 10 years ago, but has since learned tolerance and understanding. If so, then he needs to publicly admit his past racism, show some genuine remorse, and vow to stay committed to principles of open mindedness.
But instead, his only response has been a non apology where he admits to saying something racially offensive, while claiming that it was just an "isolated incident" and he "meant no dustespect".
Obviously, he doesn't get it. And if he can't understand why using the n bomb to disparage minorities really is a big deal, then he's not fit to be coaching an NHL team.
My 2 cents.
First Sid is out 6 weeks, now Dumoulin out for 8 weeks. To go with others who have missed time...Malkin, Letang, Bjugstad, Schultz, and Rust. Not a good year injury-wise for us Pens fans.

B's and Canes are 0-0 after two. Good scoring chances on both sides. Canes did put one behind Halak but it went through the netting so it didn't count.
Looks like it might end weirdly, too.
