Hmmm. This post got me thinking. Maybe that's why your Leafs and my Flyers have been so disappointing for so many decades. They actually CARE about us. They don't want us to get overly excited and have a heart attack...
I've been speaking with some buddies about last nights game and most of them turned off the tv at 3-0 Nashville. I was close to doing the same!
I have to wonder which team is going to show up on Sunday for game five! Go Leafs Go!

That Carter Hart is pretty damn good.

Hart made some huge saves in that 1st period. All in all, the Flyers owned the first period though. Second period was close, but I'd give the edge to the Lightning. Third period was almost all Tampa Bay, but they just couldn't put the biscuit in the basket.
Three games against 3 very good teams, and the Flyers only gave up 3 goals total. (4-1; 3-1; 4-1 against Boston, Washington, and Tampa Bay respectively.) Carter Hart is very young, but looks to be the real deal. I sure hope so...
Stamkos out 'til ? and now Hedman with a "lower body injury"? Great. Just effing great.
Yeah Gone Plaid, I wasn't aware that Stamkos was out until I turned on the game. The Hedman injury was a real fluke. It's like his ankle just gave out on him or something. Not a contact injury. Hopefully he won't be out too long. He's a huge loss for them for sure. (As is Stamkos.)

I am very surprised the DallasStars (my team) came back to win in an OT shoot-out over the Blues 2-1.
I have always hated the three-a-side overtime. And shoot-outs are NOT a way to settle games. That is not real hockey.
I prefer those 4 or 5 overtime, full team, games. Let them play 'til they settle it. It worked in my favour, this time. But, that ain't real hockey.
They play CGY Flames, Tuesday.

If they're still tied after the shoot-out, maybe the goalies could joust.
Can't wait to see if Edmonton gets the first overall pick today. Again.

Well, that sound heard across the GTA last night was the sound of the window of opportunity closing for the Leafs. With Covid decimating all sports, the salary cap probably being lowered, rather than the expected raise, the Leafs and teams like them, will struggle to get to the cap.
The current "Shanaplan" is likely dead. There will be some scrambling going on at head office and there will be sacrifices. Who they can keep will be really interesting in the next months and collectively, here in Toronto, we are praying to the lottery gods for pick number one...

Similar situation in Pittsburgh...what to do next? Too many older players with heavy contracts, no high draft picks in the near future, and no cap room. Rutherford had a decent run going with two Cups but this is definitely an example of mortgaging the future for the (then)present. It worked...landed those Cups, but now the future is here and it looks like we'll be paying for it for some time.
