Noble Amps Preamp

Interesting as peak limiting is mainly what i use it for. Transparent as it is i feel the maxon adds to my tone so will leave it in the chain. Wish I'd kept my Cail 76 TX now!
I had a compressor on my board for a while and liked it, but have since removed it. My thing with compression is that if you use it as an always on, it is a rather subtle effect for live playing. For me. I would rather free up the space for something else. I do mix in slap now and then and have no issues with huge spikes on the Noble. I have had big spikes going straight into a DI many times before, so if tracking, I had to do slap stuff on a different track to control volumes. With the Noble, that is not an issue. Of course a popped string will be louder, but it doesn't clip my A/D like before.
My experience is that you can control peaks through proper gain staging and right hand technique.
I should add that I don't like the sound of a compressed bass that much when it is coming out of my amp. After that (in a mix or out front) that is fine, but as part of "my sound". it's not really my thing. So I am more of a post guy than a Pre guy when it comes to that.
It is!!! Jack told me he has only made a few of them so far. I was lucky enough to pick mine up used here. Mine is the only one he has built 18" wide.

As several on talkbass have observed, the 1000W amp is just the Noble tube preamp followed by a class D module, wrapped in a sweet vintage-looking cabinet. For some time I have been waiting for a new power module that can auto switch between 110V and 220V (current module is hardwired either/or), and at that point I am going to redesign the sheet metal chassis that the amp is built in, maybe making it able to be removed from the head cabinet, rack mountable, operated alone/out of the head cabinet, purchased separately, etc. This is going to take some time, but that’s what the future price point is about. Until then I’m considering it a “pre-release” product and it’s not officially linked into the website (though many have found it anyway, and I am building them in limited number).

Not a Noble demo per se, but it still is, kinda. Worked great for this recording.
I was not aware of that when I had my Noble. I did ship my Compressore and Chorus/Flanger to Jack and he said that I couldn't run both at the same time, but I thought it was because both required a lot of power. He did not mention that I couldn't run other (low power) pedals. However, the Compressore was/is my always on pedal.
The Compressore takes up 600mA. That leaves you with 300mA left to work with for your other pedals. Other (low power) pedals would not be a problem providing you don't exceed the 900mA Output.

That is such a beautiful head. I did the smaller size too. Most of the time I play direct to FOH, so it wouldn't make sense for me at this time...

Thanks!! The size is perfect for me. It is the perfect match for a 212 cab. I had grown tired of tiny little class D amps but didn't want a big heavy lead sled either. This amp is well built and looks like it should weigh a lot more. At 19 lbs. it is completely manageable.

Happy with the head so far? I'm guessing that it's dead silent compared to a lot of other amps? I know the preamp is, but am curious about the power section.
I would guess that having it all together in one integrated box with a single power supply and short run of wiring from the pre to power amp that it can inherently be more quiet vs running the pre into a separate power amp.
I was just noticing that it's good down to 2 ohms which is a plus for me since I have a pair of 6 ohm cabs.
Yes I am very happy with it so far! It is dead silent. By far the quietest amp I have ever owned. I only briefly owned the Noble Preamp since I quickly sold it along with my other amp to help fund this amp, so I no longer anything else to directly compare.
The only problem with an amp being this quiet is that I now notice the noise that some of my pedals are bringing to the party that I didn't notice as much before.
I've never had a reason to get down to 2 ohms, but it is good to know that I have that flexibility if I ever do.
Try increasing the distance from what appears to be your wireless, or any other purely digital powered devices.
