NPD DSM Noisemaker OmniCabSim

Same here, I feel like all the knobs on my OCSD are fairly essential for me to dial in my tone. But I probably shouldnt make the proclamation without giving the mini a fair shake.

Agreed. I’d love the extra space on my board, but I use everything except the mid scoop knob. Even the headphone jack and aux in are essential features for practicing. Still, interested to hear the reviews on the gain circuit and how the fridge setting sounds on the mini

Hey guys!!!!
I'm glad you are aware of the preorders!

The gain on the mini works differently than the OCSD..it has more boost and some soft clipping and gain-variable filtering going on..
At low levels it's fairly clean, but above noon it starts compressing and adding a mid range sweetness as it goes up.
The volume is a master volume control so it's easier to not overdrive the DI out.

The mid setting is fixed about 75% (on what it would be on the omni) and..no punch control... that's for the deluxe :)

I don't use the punch control, so I'm good with that. I have been running the mid control lower than 75%, but I could make that work.

Looking forward to it!

75% is close enough to where my deluxe is set. Should work well!

“Midrange sweetness” should help too.

Any one know how long the battery would last on the current OCSD with the gain at 12 o'clock and not using the headphone or aux in jacks? I need to temporarily reduce the weight I am carying around, so I am thinking of leaving the pedal board (and pedal power 2 plus) at home for my next outing.

Thanks!

GAS question. Playing a Lakland 55-01 with an upgraded preamp through my OCSD but I keep gassing for a pedal preamp. Do you typically run a pre into the OCSD? After? Or use the OCSD straight? I have been looking at the difference between the Mesa DI and the Le Bass. Any other suggestions? I only play at church so I do not need a ton of gain.

In everything I’ve read, Daniel suggests a preamp before because the OCSD wants a fairly hot signal that some passive basses cannot produce...

Thanks for clearing things up, Daniel.
The gain knob on the mini sounds tempting but the punch control, aux in and headphone amp are mandatory for me. Any intentions of adding the gain knob to the OCSD v4?
Maybe, there are space limitations as i would like to make the V4 smaller next year. Of course i'd like to put as many controls as possible, and gain could be one of them, also a switch to select the punch frequency..i think it will take time because the design is very sensitive, it's a very touchy balance to get it right. Also working on a CMOS version that looks very promising in simulation ( much closer to a real speaker with extreme notches and peaks) ..
For the gain knob i would like to first have the impressions of customers with the mini..

Pre-order completed for the Mini!
I do have a Deluxe already, so it may seem extravagant buying another pedal that basically does the same thing, but it has become an absolutely essential item.
Using a small board (Nano+), space is a premium & this fits the bill perfectly. I also switch between instruments, so having the ability to engage guitar cab emulation as well has made this an interesting addition. The lack of headphone amp is fine too, as I've got a Rolls PM351 unit hiding under the board already.

I'll happily report back on the way this works on bass & how its integrated into the pedal-board for anyone who is interested. (A older DSM-less version of the board appears in this thread: Show me your compact pedalboard setup)

Looking forward to it... @Dsmnoisemaker

Thanks NeonRich!!!!
I´m about to release a short bass demo of the mini, stay tuned!

OK, bass video uploaded!
As you will see and hear, it has the same versatility as its big brother, as the "texture" knob is quite powerful. Also the Gain knob alters the mid presence (similar to the punch control, but it will also add compression/grit)
Check it out!

Very, very nice. How would you “Laymanize” what the gain knob does as you increase the gain? Does it boost in the 800-1000 hz region somewhat?

Demo sounded great, as usual!

The gain knob tries to do what tube amps do when cranked...at low levels it's perfectly linear, and progressively, starts to compress the lows and highs (due to transformer saturation), and clipping the mids.
This gives the impression of more mids, because there are more harmonics in that area (tipically referred as "warmth") but it is not a mid boost per se, like the punch in the deluxe.
If you crank the gain and feed a distorted signal, it will sound a bit blurry...but with cleans and light OD's its wonderful, it brings a bit of life to a boring OD tone.

Nice, my man. I’m sure I missed it but when is the profected ship date?

Awesome! I look forward to getting it in my pedal drawer! I'll be able to fit either my Reiner Gasoline other my Damnation Audio MBD-1 in there with the help of a mOCS.
