Number of people on your Ignore list?

Currently 5, & one is banned already. I’ve been on Tb for a while , and for the most part, everybody is awesome.. In fact, I’ve never had a Tb deal that was anything but great through the classifieds- However, there are occasional threads that generally derail quickly (when political/ religious type stuff gets injected) and there are a few that I’d rather not interact with, or see any posts by, & I’m thankful for the ignore button..

No time to read all 11 pages, but I think I have maybe 1 or 2 people on my list. TB is great, since politics is banned here we mostly are cool and polite around each other. Maybe the rest of society could take a clue from that?

But, the internet is the internet, and there is a trope out there called the G.I.F.T., "Greater Internet F-wad Theory", which posits that

easy internet access + anonymity = total F-wad

It doesn't apply to most people most of the time, but in any given forum there will always be a percentage of people who love to cause trouble, troll, get a kick out of spinning people up, etc. A good moderator team takes care of most of these clowns, banning them as needed, but there are always a few who slip through the cracks. These are the guys who know how to deliberately irritate other users while staying just inside the bounds of the rules. We've all seen them. They are smart, in their own way, but they use their powers for ill.

Those are the ones who wind up on my ignore list.

Music theory brings out the worst in TB.

And it was a E##

The electronics tech stuff has always brought out a few shills, obvious trolls, and stalker freak types. But TB is really a gentle place compared to many other online forums I've frequented over the last 20+ years. It takes quite a bit to make my ignore list, but sometimes those types just make too much work for me (reseacrhing technical cites is fairly time consuming, especially if you have to then translate to "layman's terms") and putting them in the penalty box for a little while is best for both of us IMO and IME. There are six in there at the moment, three of whom have been there for a very long time when they weren't out on suspension. And even then, in a face to face situation I'd at least buy the first round and see where the common ground is.

Wise men embrace diversity, debates and are thankful when they are corrected or presented with a new way to see a situation.

How many people are on your ignore list? I used to go by the rule of never ignoring anyone, but found that it really made Talkbass more enjoyable. Every year or so, I'll review the list and I usually find that one out of five are now banned, so it isn't just me. Usually after the "review" I'll unignore everyone. Sure enough, the same people quickly go back on that list. I currently have seven on the list and by the time I do the net "review" there will probably be ten.

Please don't mention any members by name. I'm not trying to turn this into an outing or attitude shaming session. I like the feature.
Zero. Wouldn't give em the satisfaction. Also live by the rule, keep your friends close, and your enemies even closer.

I'm in the "no such thing as a stupid question" for the most part. I'm just happy when I see the people asking incredibly basic questions about poking around inside an amp come back and ask follow up questions. And continue asking questions. At least they're alive.
