Official 2011-2012 NHL Regular Season Thread; Second Period

Frickin' Flyers....you hosers. :)

But hey, I still believe the best hockey in the NHL right now is coming out of Pennsylvania. Let the Pens stay in fourth, I'm fine with that.

Two days off, then the Pens host Darth Handsome and his Jets.

Ultimate revenge for what Kunitz did. Digging the elbow into the head, kneeing him while he was on the ice. Good for Hartnell!

Top of the East?Atlantic is getting super tight. 3 points 1st to 5th/3rd? WOW!!!

Obviously we're both biased towards our teams, but after the Pens took a 2-0 lead the refs put away their whistles and the Flyers constantly were cheapshotting Pens after the whistle. Hartnell deserved every bit of what Kunitz gave to him.

If Kunitz had a problem with something Hartnell did, he should have fought him like a man. Hartnell would oblige.

9 penalties after the Pens were up 2-0. Most to the Pens.

Protocol is for a player to lay off when the other is down on the ice. Not to try and drive his head further into it. NBC crew were thinking Kunitz was going to be gone for the game since he wasn't responding to the linesmen trying to pull him off and Hartnell wasn't able to fight back at that point.

Rangers and Flyers fans are all Winnipeg fans tomorrow night. Haha, funny stuff guys.

Rangers and Devils get the national spotlight tonight. I hope it is Brodeur and Lundqvist.

Anaheim is basically out of the playoffs, bummer, but their game with San Jose would be fun to watch if I can stay up that late.

Break out the 47 jerseys! Radz is headed back to the NHL. It became official last night.

Most reports indicate that Ufa will get to keep his player contract for 2013, however, there are no guaranteed deals with KHL contracts, and they can be terminated at any time by either party.

I'm cautiously optimistic about his return. He is a great goalscorer, and is an asset offensively, but he's pretty lackluster on the defensive side of the ice. I'm not sure where he will fit into the line picture, because we have a set in stone top-6. I see us with lines like this:

S.Kostitsyn-Fisher-Erat
Hornqvist-Legwand-A.Kostitsyn
Radulov-Smith/Goose-Wilson
Yip/Bourque/Tootoo/Spaling/Smith/Goose

The Radulov/Smith/Wilson line combo screams creative offense and could be a top line if everything clicks, but Smith has worn down over time this year and I'm not sure how well that line could hold up to physical play. I prefer the line centered by Goose because he provides exactly what Wilson and Radulov needs: a big guy that can provide puck possession while being a defensive safety net. That leaves us with a good group of well rounded guys to fill the bottom line out, and adds plenty of depth should an injury arise.

What I wouldn't do to have a DVR so I could go back and watch that game when I get home from work today! Flyers win in OT? I'll take it!

That game goes to a shootout and the Flyers chances of winning evaporate. Love that Hartnell got the game winner with one second left in OT. In the on ice celebration; with the way he mugged Hartnell, you could tell that Bryz was happy he didn't have to face a shootout.

Lot's of snarl in that game. Entertaining for sure.

That's exactly what I was thinking. "Well, looks like it's going to a shootout. Only one point for us. WAIT!! Way to go, Hartnell!!"

I thought Kunitz's elbowing, kneeing, and gloving Hartnell's face while he was down on the ice was classless. For as much as everybody always hated Dan Carcillo, every time I saw him put another player onto the ice, he immediately stopped throwing the fists and backed off. Like somebody else said, that's the unwritten code. I thought Kunitz would at LEAST get a second minor for Unsportsmanlike Conduct.
