That would have the advantage of doubling as a handy PA speaker too... but I think I'd miss the modularity of being able to use different amps. What's that old saw about "would you want to eat the same thing for breakfast every single morning?" I don't care if it IS steak and eggs... some days I just want eggs benedict instead.

You can always use different preamps/pedals in front of the FR800, though I get what you are saying. But for its size and weight, the volume and tone out of that FR800 just impresses the heck out of me - and I've played some really good stuff!

That is very intriguing, especially knowing how much you liked it upon trying it out. And yes, all true about being able to use whatever pre- you want to color it with.

15g nuts (pecans, almonds)
15g granola
15g raisins/craisins/fruit

It's probably been longer than that, just in slightly different form like in a shaker cup w/ protein powder too.

I used to eat 1/2 dozen eggs with it too. Trying to get 3000 clean calories per day with 200g of protein...

Yes, your review of the Two 10 played a major part in my going for the Four 10, Tom. In fact your reviews and comments on Talkbass over the years have been responsible for many of my purchases and you have not let me down yet . I feel very grateful but not sure to what extent my wife might share that sentiment.

I have three gigs Thurs-Sat and will be bringing the Four10 for 2 of these (One10 for the third one which is a restaurant/lounge kind of gig), so I will post about the experience then. I will be using a 5-string for at least some of the time so hopefully I will be able to give direct answers to all phases of your questions. So far so good and I think it will/does have that nice thump/growl, but I have refrained from posting my impressions until I can give it a legit test, and also give it a few hours of gig-level volume to open it up and break it in. Alex will likely tell you the 10's are designed to have a little breakup/growl at high volume. I'll be as fair and equinanimous in my "review" but I have a feeling that it's gonna be good... I have the One10 already so I have a sense of what the drivers sound like in general. I will be fair in my praise, lol.

I know we have a few Madison-area peeps on here, but I don't know if any of them are in need of a Barefaced demo. But if so, by all means, come up and say hello. While I am still eagerly awaiting the arrival of my Four 10, I had much the same questions as you before committing to my order and did considerable research. There is Tom Bowlus' excellent review in Bass Gear Magazine, in which he states it is like the Ampeg 210AV but more in every way. Spec wise its efficiency and ability to take power is pretty impressive, plus I had the opportunity to hear a single One 10 being played and was stunned when I looked and saw what it was - having expected to see a 212 or 410 cab. I can only imagine that four of them will be pretty impressive. On top of this you only need to read owners' comments on their Barefaced cabs to be confident in ordering one. Not only that but its light weight is a bonus too.
As a "pending" owner I can also assure you that their service and communication is first rate. I have had two emails from Alex himself giving me advice, and today also received one from Claire in the office letting me know the state of my order. I will update once my cab arrives but I am very confident that it will more than meet my requirements.

Wow, a 110 sounding like a 212 or 410, that's saying a lot. Were you playing the 110? If so, at a band rehearsal or regular gig? Or did you hear another bassist play thru one?
Just that most (smart) bands rehearse at reduced volumes. So I've gotten away with using even my TC-E 250-115 combo with very good results at a couple loud-ish rehearsals/gigs. Not questioning your judgment or the veracity of your statement. Just recall folks saying similar things about fEarless/ful, etc 12/6's back in the day being equal to or better than quality 212/ 410's.

I have the Eminence 3012LF's in my Gen 2 Big Twin-T that I feel are quite impressive. What they heck is Alex doing with his custom built drivers these days to get those types of results?

Someone else was playing it and I was passing through. I think he was using a GK800. It was not a loud band, more rootsy in style, but the sound quality and the effortlessness of delivery really impressed me (rather than sheer volume), filled a small bar really well and made me think that there was much more than a single speaker delivering it. Good player too which didn't hurt.
I think Alex gets more air movement from his speakers by giving them greater front to back motion. I am no expert on this but I think I read somewhere that if you think of the coil as a piston the piston moves further so more air is moved. These are just my words and very simplistic (and I don't really understand it all), no doubt Alex can explain it far better than I. To be honest I am expecting the Barefaced Four 10 will have more volume than I will ever need for most of my gigs. I know what you mean about people getting overexcited about new products, which is why I have waited a while and watched and listened to others before venturing into the Barefaced line.
