The TH and the GK are kind of the opposite ends of the tonal spectrum. If you don't like one you will probably like the other.
Well, they don't make the B1500 any more, at least not the heavy one I have. The lighter amps I've used have big power numbers (watts) but they sound insubstantial to me. Maybe it's my imagination, but the heavy output transformers just seem to move more air. I thought Carvin shipped everywhere, though. It is good bang for your buck.Yeah I am also intrigued about the Carvins... unfortunately bass carvin amps in europe get sold once in every second century or so...
Perhaps one day I might be able to grab one.
Yes! A Quilter Bass Block 800 is my next gear purchase (to go with my two One10's)
You will not be disappointed. Actually let me amend that statement - if you're looking for the naturally amplified tone of your bass, or if you've got a preamp that you love, this is your amp. Lightweight, great but super-basic EQ, lots of power. If you're looking for the preamp of the Quilter for your base tone it may disappoint. Mine lives on my pedalboard and I run a speakon cable back to my Super Twin. Oodles of power and the whole combo weighs less than 50lb.

I haven't tried a BB800 yet, but from what I've read, the preamp is a big part of what a lot of people like about the head's tone.

Yes, I've heard the same thing, raves across the board for it. The two tone controls look like they are perfect for my style. But I can always slap my BDDI in front of it if necessary.
I love the pre. I switched to the BB800 from a tube head that I was driving pretty hard and the Quilter won't do that. It's natural sounding and clean all the way through the gain and EQ settings. I front it with a preamp to get the edge I need and then use the BB800's onboard EQ for finishing the job. So the BB800's not going to replace your SVT by itself, you'll need something to find the grit. If you're a clean player, electric or upright, who's looking for something to make the sound of your bass but much louder the BB800 will do it out of the box. Jump over to the BB800 thread on TB for more info/proselytizing.
.... and to stay on subject, my Super Twin eats all 800W and spits them out as smooth and round and heavy as a baby hippo.

Outstanding! I hate a a grindy overdriven bass! Clean, fat and present are my tone goals. Whew! For a second you had me worried.
This is my final rig update. This is how I solved my amp dilemma. Found a guy who sold me his EBS made in Sweden Fafner TD600 for a very good price looking basically brand new. This and my Tri-Logic and the Big Twin 2.
KILLER MONSTER sound. I only wish you guys could hear this.
My GK is absolutely no more and will be sold next week with zero bad feelings about it. No comparison at all to my ears.

Well surprisingly the Fafner weighs less than my GK1001.
IIRC it should be around 24lbs. It's not that bad

I've never been to Europe but I have to get over there someday, especially now that my brother has done some research and found out the village in Slovakia where my Dad's family came from. I could stop in Slovenia on my way to Slovakia.
You might find it amazing that Melania is Slovenian and also the First Lady but, to an American, it's no surprise. Trump has been very vocal about immigrants coming here to take jobs from Americans and I suspect it's because he has some very direct experience with that - 2/3 of his wives have been immigrants! 
OK, that might be treading dangerously close to quasi-political turf but hopefully it's enough of a humorous observation to keep me from getting an infraction. Just in case, I'm getting get back on topic....
Wow, looking at the size of the Fafner I would have guessed it was even heavier. I understand that my 1001 isn't really that heavy, even for a guy my age. But I've had such a great experience using my MB500 with my band for the last two years that I decided I have no longer have a reason to ever use an amp that weighs more than 5 pounds (~2.2kg) Not counting my 1001, I now have 2800W of total power in 5 class D heads that weigh a total of 20 pounds. That's LESS THAN the weight of my 1001! But having said that, if I were to play somewhere where a nice, old, beat up, vintage, boat anchor of a tube head was provided, I'd still play the hell out of it. I just don't want to carry one.

Cool to hear you found your family origin. And yes, Slovenia is just a couple hours drive from Slovakia and while on the way, you get to see Austria too!
As for the class d amps, you are right. Nobody notices in a band mix really. I was so close on pulling the trigger on an EBS Reidmar 750. But I don't trust that "made in china" sticker in the back. I rather went for the real swedish ebs.
As I move towards a BB2 purchase I am looking for a suitable head to make a smaller rig (I have a Four 10 which I can use with a variety of tube heads). I was considering a Handbox R400 but I see that it is only rated at 400 watts into 4 ohms, so presumably would be about half that into 8 ohms. Has anyone tried a Handbox into the BB2? I don't want to commit and then find that I run out of grunt.
Before I got my Fafner I called into their office. The guy had absolutely no clue about what english language is. When I tried to talk german with him he also didn't know it.
My only way of communicating with him was to open google translate and read the polish translation to him. To bad he started obviously answering in polish though. Couldn't understand a thing.
The only thing I managed to arrange with him in a 10 min long phone conversation was to send an email. I am still waiting for the answer. Obviously it is too late, the big boy took the spot
Not recommending since I don't own one, but the Peavey MiniMega has (IIRC) 700W @ 8 ohm.
Also, IIRC, BGM did a review which should have the lab measurements on it.
