I had a TB500 paired with an OBC410 and later also with an OBC115. I found it too hi-fi with the 410 and a bit more classic with the 115, but it was still too clean for my tastes.
The low end was admirable but I like the dirt of the valves better.
Still, it was damn loud, louder than the AD200B.

Never played an Orange until this weekend when my wife and nephew took me to a vintage guitar place in Williamsburg they had "discovered" and which has vintage basses too. So there I was playing a 1978 Jazz into an Orange Terror 500 into what looked like an Orange 1x12 cab (not knowing Orange stuff well, I'm not sure what it was). Anyway, it all sounded very good. Not going to get that Jazz (holding out for a Mike Lull, another story entirely), but I did get interested in the Orange gear as a result. I like the Terror concept - tube preamp and Class D power - I am used to that with my Streamliner 900.

Sounds like you were running through an SP212 cab (isobaric setup with 2 - 12" speakers forward facing). The TB500 is a great amp and they respond really well with just about any cab as far as I can tell.

I have AD200b run through an Aguilar DB212. It is the best sounding amp I've used for an old school sound that is so creamy. The bass never gets boomy, just rich. The only issue I have is that my MM Stingray Classic and my fretless P sound way too mid centered through that amp. Its the high mids that can't really be tamed through the 2 band EQ of the MM or the tonestack of the Orange EQ. I end up using my Mesa Scout or my semi retired, thrashed Mesa Big Block.

I notice that passive basses really, really sing through the AD200B. A MIA Jazz with Nordstrands just killed. My '75 Jazz with underwound Fralins is the most melodic, rich sound I've ever encountered. I was also surprised how well the AD200B did with active basses. My old Warwick Thumb (two band, bolt on 4) and MM Sterling HH sound REALLY good through the AD200B and the Aguilar DB212. The Warwick sounds unreal, fat and growly, incredibly organic without being sterile.

I did compare a TB500 to my Ad200BMkIII. There was certainly a difference in tone, it wasn't THAT different, but it was there. It may have been the preamp tubes. The EQ acted a little differently as well, but again, that may be the tubes.

The EQ on the AD200B is passive, whereas the EQ on the TB500 is active. Furthermore, noon on the AD is a bit mid scooped and a bit more flat on the TB.

OK, looked that up and I believe you are right - an SP212. Thanks for the info! That is one crazy design (crazy in a good way, I guess, never seen that before). For a small package that rig had a lot of power and really nice tone.

I have already had every one of them.
First, nobody needs a TB1000. It is great, but you will never get past 3 unless you play just open air without PA.
AD200B is creamy dreamy, but heavy as a corpse, and if you play anything but rock, you could want something else.
Bottom line, TB500 with an OBC115 is vintage and modern enough (and light!) to get you through every gig you could have (a 2x212 ISO is also a great option).

I heard the isobaric 212's only have the volume of one 12. My last two combo amps have been 115's and I love the sound. I just need something that hits all the frequencies as well as some subs better.

The iso 2x12 are not as loud as a normal 2x12(physics 101) and not as loud as a 115!
If you want deep tones you need a 410. If you want sweet bass mids, you need a 115. And really, everybody needs a 115, or two!!!

Hey guys, just wanted to put this out as a feeler, but I am looking to trade my OBC 115 and cash for an OBC 4x10 if anyone is looking to switch. If it so happens you are, email me at [email protected] please and thank you.

Also,
Has anyone on TB played or do you own an OBC 8x10? I have yet to hear of someone actually review one.

Finally, here's to hoping Orange will expand their bass line! Do I hear a 2x15 cab? Rack mountable TB heads? A higher wattage valve head? Troy Sanders signature bass head with the first graphic EQ? It sucks the OB-1K never made it to production as it was a cool concept, but they would not have sold well IMO. Close to 2 grand for a 1000 watt solid state head, don't see anyone shelling that out.
