Origin Audio Cali76 FET compressor (1176 inspired)

Any thoughts on how well they will play with each other? I currently use a Diamond comp and I like how it sounds with the REDDI. Congrats man! I'm in the same gear boat as you: liked my Diamond + REDDI. Liking the TX-P + REDDI combo even more. Definitely a little less "squished" sounding & more organic, even without any dry signal (though you can get mega-squished with the Cali if you're into that). I'm using pretty typical settings for EB - similar to the guy in the above Periphery video but usually closer to 8:1 and less severe on the attack & release.

From what I've read (and tried), REDDI plays well with everyone & everything. IMO, YMMV, etc

I'm wondering, my Cali76tx is right at the start of the chain (after tuner). And I'm looking at it now thinking would the rest of the chain benefit from me plugging it's output in the DI instead of the amp out? I'm reading the docs and I'm not sure.. I think no.. then look at it again and think if I'm not using that DI output.. why did I get the Tx?

Am I just going nuts?

Either way, you are getting the colouration from the transformer.

You can plug your amp/chain into the DI/Line output if you use a non TRS (Mono, TS) cable. The main difference is that you can now use the two gain settings, the low and high. At the high gain setting, the level is higher internally and on output, you get more colour on the tone, can be useful depending on what you are going for.

So, whether or not you use the DI with a TRS cable, you are still gaining a lot with the TX version.

I use the DI plug with a normal patch cable on my board and mostly use it at the low gain setting.

Hey guys,
Just received my Cali76-TX. What a pedal!
I have a question though: I use a Diago 9v to 18v adaptor so that I can use my OneSpot with the Cali. However, it only outputs 30ma whereas the Cali requires 65ma. The pedal seems to be functioning normally with my basses. Can I do any damage by supplying it with a lower voltage than quoted?

The transformer option may not function properly

For the transformer to function properly and not be bypassed out of the audio circuit, it takes 18v and a certain amount of current.

For what you paid for the transformer option ($130) you might want to use a dedicated 18v supply for the Cali.

If you run it with insufficient power for the transformer to function, you're basically running a Standard (transformerless) model rather than a TX.

You can also email Origin Effects. They are very responsive to questions.

I just opened my unit up for something else and noticed the Pad jumpers.

From the description of this specific feature in the manual (which I previously misread) I assumed the jumpers adjusted sensitivity up. However, it is a standard Pad adjustment.

There are four levels of Pad. I tried #4 (the most padding) and was able to use the Cali76 in the effects loop. I didn't try the other levels.

So experiment with the jumper settings.

I have an email into Origin Effects for more specifics re: using it at Line Level. I'll post when I receive a response.

Here's the reply from Origin Effects -

"Yes this will allow you to run line level signals in to the comp though a little make up gain may be needed on the way out. Try different settings & play with the input jumper to suit. (Also, be aware the HIGH/ LOW Gain only changes the level feeding the output transformer stage after the compressor section)."
