Paul Gray form Slipknot found dead

I'll defend the opinion of Jimmy in principle as I agree assuming drugs are involved, but I'm still waiting to see the cause. This is a website of open opinions on various topics, not the "let's all be vanilla nice because......" so having the past that he had, some of our fingers are cocked for pointing and rightfully so.

I am of the opinion that drug abusers and those that eat themselves to death and die at 38 of "natural causes" don't die tragic deaths. Having no respect for yourself isn't the world's fault nor tragic.

Maybe he choked on a marshmellow, and in that case I'd have sympathy. I do feel horribly for the mother and child that will never know his/her father as a father-to-be expecting in 2 months myself. That is tragic.

so.. think they will replace him? from what i read, it seems like they are getting a little sick of what they are doing. somewhere in a guitarworld mag, mick sounded so negative about the entire last album. corey is clearly going to be alright with stone sour, and everyone else has their side projects. feels like this would be the perfect catalyst for them to finally hang up the masks. as if they werent unhappy enough, this would send them over the edge.

although, i could be completely wrong.

Its sad to hear. Honestly, people shouldn't be judging whether it ends up being drugs or not. Many of us will never experience a celebrity musician lifestyle, so his situation shouldn't be compared to ours.

A celebrity musician I had never heard of has to be given some "extra consideration" when it comes to drug abuse? Really?

Quote from a wealthy musician while having a beer in San Pedro California..."Being famous sucks when I just feel like going to Target in Torrance (SoCal) for socks.....but going to London just because for a month and not caring about the cost makes up for it."

I totally understand the negative-addiction comments, but I'm not sure I understand why they belong in a thread so soon after a bassist has died and before the facts are all in. IMHO and all that.........

News like this saddens me and pisses me off too.

It saddens because a man died,a man who share the same passion for an instrument as I do.

It pisses me off, there's nothing that'd make me happier than being the bassist of a huge band.Abusing drugs and getting yourself killed (if that's the case here),leaving a child behind, wasting a life like that...

But If I were in a huge rock band,I probably wouldn't see 35 due to alcohol abuse.I probably won't see 50 if I keep living like the way I do.So that's a paradox for me.

RIP buddy...

I always admired Paul for his playing. He didn't play the most inspirational bass lines (IMO!), but he always held his own in between 2 screaming guitar players and a raging drummer, not to mention the rest of the band. He was a perfect bass player for the band he was in, and I find it a shame that he had to die. It's very sad.

I saw Slipknot at Sonisphere last year. It was wicked.

Maggots! ;)

well hey, nobody can save you from yourself although many would like to. hopefully you've thought enough about your situation to minimize the collateral damage when the inevitable happens. i wish you the best, though, and hope you find a way through your problem.

anyway, my intent wasn't to call out a guy who just died, but i guess i did, so i should probably stop.

Thanks Jimmy. The colleteral damage started a few months ago, this made me realize what I am doing and I'm easing up on the things, getting to senses you may call it.

Haha I have to sub to this thread. I can't believe JimmyM getting all this abuse for such truthful words. I just told a load of people the same kinda thing and they seem to be having a go thinking I'm just a hater of the band. I couldn't care less about the band. It's the individual who has ruined peoples' lives.

I don't think anyone is having a go at the band, nor would I care if I did. But I find it deplorable that someone could say that the way Paul died somehow detracts from the sadness of the situation. Heaven forbid anyone that you, JimmyM or anyone else knows should commit suicide because with attitudes like yours you don't deserve the sympathy you would receive.

yes, i am a miserable a-hole because i like to see kids grow up with semi-competent parents who love them.
