Paul Gray form Slipknot found dead

That's what I understand as well. They haven't done the tox screen yet so nobody really knows at this point. His name escapes me but remember the singer from Drowning Pool that died a few years ago? People were running off about how he must have OD'd and whatnot but it turned out he was totally clean and died of, I think, a heart condition.

It was also said that he may have died from excess alcohol consumption and choked on his vomit in his sleep too.

maybe, but it's not such a stretch considering he's got a long documented problem with them. hopefully he didn't die of drugs, but considering his past, to condemn drug speculation is a bit disingenuous, don't you think?

I think for anyone to comment on the death of someone who they do not know or were not with when it happened is disingenuous.

In regards to the issue of drug abuse, some people are just unable to stop until death. I always tell young people there are two results of any drug use program; either you quit it or and some point in time, directly or indirectly, you die from it. Two former band members did just that last year  and at 45+ years of age I can only be thankful that I left it and them behind.

i'm sorry, but what kind of selfish person dies of an od and leaves a pregnant wife behind? you would think being a father would at least cause him to calm down a little bit with the drugs. didn't seem to miss a beat.

RIP, selfish dude.

Sounds harsh......... But,the truth is the truth. The person I feel for is the unborn child.
You've pretty much hit the nail on the ol' head,Jimmy.

Luck has nothing to do with it. Don't do drugs and you won't have a drug problem. Ya know why I'm not a heroin or coke addict??? Because I never used heroin or coke...not some big scientific mystery going on here. I saw all the people who were musicians who are dead because of drugs and consciously decided not to join that club. It's not like brain cancer or schizophrenia, it is self-imposed insanity. I don't buy the celebrity crap as an excuse either...the world is full of addicts who aren't celebrities, and there are "thankfully" a few celebrities that never used drugs, i.e. Gene Simmons, Ted Nugent, hopefully more.

That said, I'm in the camp of waiting to see before commenting on the cause. He could have been trying to get clean for his wife & kid and relapsed...I've known plenty of alcoholics and addicts who after getting clean, go back to using the same amount they used when they stopped and their bodies didn't have the tolerance for it anymore. Regardless, it's a sad situation. My 17 year old son is a big fan, and the news floored him.

My probelm with the whole addict/disease arguement is that it removes any responsibility from those who CHOSE to do drugs. If you CHOOSE to do drugs, then YOU are RESPONSIBLE for the concequences. The whole disease agrument is bull ****, because it leaves the user/addict powerless with no control and not responsible for thier actions.

that is exactly what a close relative of mine would say as he ransacked his parents' house for stuff he could pawn or stole high ticket items from walmart and deserted his teenage daughter at a time she needed him most. "i'm an addict and i can't help it." he loved to use that as his get out of jail free card...until he went to prison twice and spent almost 4 years of his life behind bars. it was the second time he went that he realized that while he may not be able to help it, he's certainly going to bear the responsibility for it. all of a sudden, now he can help it.

so i totally agree. again, i'm sorry the guy died, though. you shouldn't have to die to be taught a lesson. unfortunately, many do.

I bummed about this. I think Paul was an under rated bass player and because of the way Slipknot works, I think this could seriously jeopardize the future of the band. That would bum me out even more because I've been a fan since '99.
As to the possible cause of death, no one knows anything right now, so everyone is just guessing. A friend of mine died in his sleep, healthy, @ 35 a few months ago and there weren't drugs involved. It happens; it sucks, but it happens.
As to the hating; if you listen to music and hate drugs, then just throw all your records, CDs and tapes away. It's not just metal either, Jazz guys are big old feinds too. A lot of creative people are just messed up and that tends to lead them towards all sorts of highs.

That's the dumbest thing I've read in a very long time.

What a load of crap that is. I've seen first-hand the destruction that can be wrought by drugs and addiction. I'm not allowed to listen to music? Give me a break.

This is a really complicated issue dealing with health, responsibility and recreational drug use. We just don't know the details. I know that everyone is going to view this very differently no matter what. No one is created equal. Lemmy has promoted the use of amphetamines for years and he's still going strong. Len Bias, the basketball player, smoked cocaine once allegedly and died of a heart attack. Paul may have been the greatest husband and maybe would have been the greatest Dad. Maybe he didn't die of drugs. My gut is telling me he did. I hope I am wrong. All the points being made about irresponsibility are hard to argue against though.

have to agree, though i wouldn't call it dumb...just misguided. liking someone's music has zero to do with approval of what they do in their private life. gary glitter is a sick child molesting pervert, but i'll still shout "hey!" at a football game when they play "rock and roll part 2." and i'll still listen to hendrix and morrison, but i certainly don't condone how they died or find anything the least bit romantic about the lifestyle of doing drugs till it kills you. but at least hendrix and morrison didn't leave children behind, and that's what really gets me.
