I gave one of my Megas to a young player in the area. This 15 year old is a real monster and his favorite amp is now the Peavey MegaBass:

Classic! Yeah, Nick does the smiley thing on his Mega. Not how I EQ mine (almost the opposite, actually). He runs that thing through a cheap 4x10 that sounds amazing and a Peavey 1810.

You're the best! I wouldn't normally be so superstitious, being a hyperrational type in general. But those front-side PC boards still aren't quite fully screwed down...!!!

It's been doing great as a gigging amp regardless.

It's for sale now. I'm nursing a shoulder injury and need a lighter bass... it was a lousy decision to have to make, but I opted to keep my old SWR head. Dunno, there's just 'something' about that one I'll miss more if I lose it.

I am using this awesome amp to run a Leslie Speaker. Its features - like the crossover, true bi-amp, are (in theory) a nice SS match for my existing speakers/cab and enough power to fit the R & R setting I usually find myself in without having to mic. Will keep all posted on this "Project".

Sounds like a cool project, Steve. I restored some Leslies back in the day (might do another for a colleague in 2014). Funny--I turned SS leslies into 122s (tube amps). LOL.

It should be cool to have separate volume for the horn/driver parts of the Leslie.

You should do it! I think the 1516 is the chronologically correct match for the Mega: lots of Peavey ads from the day featured this pairing. The cool thing about the MegaBass is that it can drive almost anything and do it bi-amp or full-range.

For example, if you have a pair of 4 ohm cabs the only amp that could drive them together would need to be capable of a 2 ohm load. Not the MegaBass: you can drive each 4 ohm cab off its own section of the amp. Got four 8 ohm cabs? You can drive them all!

And the Mega is LOUD.

That was the rig I gigged heavily through Seattle's "grunge" (we didnt call it that) days 90-94. Seemed at the time everyone had those massive Ampeg SVT things with the jumbo stack 8x10. My Mega and I could just about brown note anybody out of any club and rip their faces off with the bright slappity slap slap to boot.

Mega never let me down, and I was the ONLY one I ever saw gigging with it. I liked that.

I could not agree more with your thoughts above. The Mega was always dependable, it sounded great, it was louder than bombs, and I got tons of compliments. In my current cover band, nobody (including my bandmates) cares what amp I use. I have yet to have someone chat me up about my gear. But I take my Mega to nearly every job now because I love it.

Yes, a number please.

Back in Seattle in those days it seemed that Peavey bass gear was not as popular. Most everyone was Ampeg, Trace or GK.. But as we both agree I think we had much better separation of high/low and the power behind it to cut through those annoying lead guitar players that just had to be on "11"
