Pet Peeves, let's hear them.

People who can't differentiate:
Then/Than
There/Their/They're
Your/You're
Affect/Effect
Except/Accept

The sound of people chewing.
Guitarists who can't control volume.
Crazy people who just don't understand that they SUCK.
Flakes.

All too often I can't stand listening to someone talk for too long at a time. Too many people think they're facinating to listen to and they're not. The only time I'm okay with it is in church listening to the message. (But then, our pastor does a very good job). Other than that I find myself always thinking "shut the **** up!!"

Right now, I'd have to say people talking on their cell phones while in the restroom, and sitting on the crapper... Seriously, there's no one I need to talk to badly enough to warrant doing it while on the toilet!!

There are exceptions though...such as being on the can and getting a call saying you father is the hospital for a heart attack. Good thing I was already on the can or I would have loaded my pants.

My mom calls and say, and I quote, "Your father won't be home tonight, he suffered a heart attack on the way home from work" she lost signal and the call was cut here :bawl: ten minutes of freaking out later, she calls again and finishes telling me that even though he had a heart attack and drove his stubborn self to the hospital and was harrassing the nurses already... but hearing dinner plans or gossip from the next stall?? NO

People who come to my store and whine and complain when they see that it is no longer the store that it was two months ago before I bought it and opened a new store.

Customers who ask me if my coffee is good. What do they expect me to say to this? Yes it is good. It's Kona coffee; from Hawaii. But I own the place. Even if it tasted like dishwater, I would swear it was the best around.

Slow drivers in the left lane; who refuse to move over.

The fact that my girlfriend is a slob and a pack rat and she refuses to clean up her messes.

People who are so $&##%$^ self important that they can't wait for others to finish a sentence without interrupting.

TalkBass members who never reply to pm's.

TalkBass members who do not close threads once the deal is made and the item is no longer available.

Young men who wear their pants so low that I can see most if not all of their underwear.

Crooked/abusive/bully cops who abuse the authority that they are given.

Extreme political types who are so far on one side that everything from the other side is instantly wrong.

Everyone in the local Craigslist music section who prices their stuff higher than new prices. (seriously...Ampeg 8x10 for $900?!!?...a Spector "Rex" for $750?!?!)

Lazy kids who hang out on the Ave and hit people up for spare change to "buy food" but then buy drugs with any money they panhandle. I own a store. I get bored when it's slow. I see a lot of what goes down out there.

Lowballers.

Nigerian scammers who want to send a check for ten times the amount you're asking for your item.

Spam mail.

Bands who take themselves too seriously.

People who stick to a fact that has been proven wrong and continue to argue it instead of growing up and admitting to being wrong and moving on.

People who steal cream and sugar from my store. (it happens a lot)

Lot's of stuff...

Sorry, but this too, probably more than anything else - the seemingly almost total eradication of the proper care and feeding of the apostrophe 's' :scowl:

I can see though that in this case it just crept up on you it's so pervasive - happen's :p to me too

One of my pastimes is lifting weight and strength training. It drives me nuts to receive unsolicited "training" or even diet advice from people in the gym.

If you have a 400lb squat, 500lb deadlift, 300lb bench, etc. - sure, I'll listen to what you're saying. However, if you struggle to bench 145lbs, and your idea of "leg day" is doing poorly executed lunges with a 15lb dumbell in each hand - sorry, your opinion is not valid.

Conversely, I never offer any advice in the gym unless someone is in direct danger of hurting themselves, no matter how silly the exercise is. For example - trying to do heavy benches without a spotter with arms & wrists shaking, or "adjusting" a bench press grip after receiving it from the spotter will get advice from me.

I'd be a little more general. I dont have many pet peeves, as I perceive individual idiosyncracies to be a part of life that makes everyone unique. Sure, some people can be annoying at times, but we all are at one point or another to someone else. You'll be a lot happier in life if you can learn to let things go.

However, unsolicited advice in regards to anything can get on my nerves. You know why? Because usually the people giving said unsolicted advice think they know everything, and they want to let you know it. My old roommate was like that, always telling us we shouldnt do this (drink tap water) or should do that (P90x), almost always because he had heard it from somewhere else (Dr. Oz). Most of the time he knew nothing about what he was talking about, only parroting statements.

And dont even try to rationalize with these people... no, they are right. They grasp at strings to prove their point even when you know more about the subject matter. Its hopeless.

I can deal with these people in general, I just cant stand the unsolicited advice. If I want your advice I'll ask for it.

I regularly cycle to work and to places I want to go, and there's a few that really annoy me about this:

- BMX bikes on roads. Seriously, you look stupid riding a tiny little bike like that.

- Overweight guys in pro-cycling kits. Seriously, the irony is so obvious, it's not funny.

- Riding on the pavement. Not only is it dangerous, illegal and inconsiderate, it makes the rest of the cycling world look like jerks.

- People cycling in the wrong gear. Call me a bit of a snob, but it's not that hard to learn how to cycle properly, using gears properly. It also causes issues when you're stuck behind some idiot who is going far too slow.

- People with expensive bikes who then act like jerks towards anyone else on the road. Owning a Trek Madone does NOT make you any better than the rest of us. :spit::mad::spit:

- People with iPods in their ears when out on roads. Seriously, it's stupid because you won't hear cars, but you're also not going to hear anyone else for that matter.

- People who go out on club rides without basic kit. Seriously, I used to do a LOT of charity and fun rides, usually doing the longest routes, and the number of people who had to call for help simply because they didn't take a tire pump or puncture kit was staggering. Usually it was the older and more experienced riders who did this too, which is strange.

- Motorists. :spit::spit::spit::spit:

+1. I would also like to add "Hipsters with fixed gear bikes who lack the necessary leg strength to pedal said single gear hipster bike up a slight hill in the road"

"As a driver I hate pedestrians. As a pedestrian I hate drivers. But no matter what the mode of transportation, I always hate cyclists". Or something to that affect/effect.

Don't flame me, just a quote I read somewhere that seemed appropriate here.

Two of mine involve the radio. I hate the technique DJs use that they call "Hit the Post". It's where they blabber on about weather, crappy contests, etc. right up until the lyrics come in. You can feel their smugness about "hitting it" right through the radio everytime.

But, uh, hey DJ, I just missed the intro!!

And then at the end, they always have to cut the song off before it's completely finished. Always! What a disservice to the artists, all this!

I caught Toto's "Africa" the other day, and I love the last 10 second fade out on the tune, and of course they cut it off right there. What! Do you think people are disinterested with intros and outros?!? Please.

Whew, I feel better.
