Pets and bass?

I was playing my bass and noticed that my 2 carnies had died..................um, it was either my bass or the refried beans.

I've noticed that some finches like the key of D and sing it back.

My yellow lab Roscoe, objects to me playing without him. I tell him that I'm going to play my bass, and he jumps up and leads me to the music room. If I make it to the room and start playing without him, he head butts the door , and continues to whine until I invite him to join me. I love me some Roscoe.

Never had a bass issue with the three Maltese dogs we have had. Interestingly one was more sensitive to sound such as a baby crying or dog barking on TV. There were three recorded songs he didn't like. Take on Me by Ahaa, probably the keyboard riff, but that song would make him howl and he never howls. He didn't like She Drives Me Crazy (probably the snare) even when it was on TV in a JC Penny commercial he would bark. Also the soft Twin Peaks instrumental theme upset him. That's Reuben. We had him about 15 years, but he passed away last Thanksgiving.

My dog hides in the basement when I play bass. I thought it was because the Ampeg was too loud, but even if it's on a small practice amp he does it. Could be a conditioned response at this point, though.

This is Roscoe, he is a good-natured jumbo who jumps up on this table and stares at me from when the case opens until it closes back up again. Roscoe is a great cat, the irony of the SKB behind him is likely lost on him though.

Our first cat, which we had for 16 years and is now 8 years gone, had the most incredible response to my playing
the bass at home. I would sit down and she would jump on my lap. I would pluck the E string and she would vigorously
rub her head on the vibrating neck. I truly believe she thought the bass was purring at her. These episodes could take 1/2 hour
or more and she looked forward to my bass time with great enthusiasm. It got so that hearing the zipper coming down on my gig bag
would send her running from anywhere in the house, squealing with joy. This was an amazing thing and was part of who she was.
It got so that by the time she was done my butt was numb from sitting and my allotted playing time would be up.
She had no favorites and loved all my basses equally.

We still miss her very much - she was much more than just a cat.

That's typically feline. They do however, leave a crap.

Our cat seems generally wary of guitar cases, (who isn't?), but doesn't mind me playing slab or bass fiddle around the house at all.

He finds his way into my ported Bag End cab for the occasional nap if uncovered. And my Tuxedo DB bag is a downright irresistible cocoon.

How do your pets respond when you play at home? The dogs ignore me, one of the cats seems to like my low notes.

I have a female black panther kitty - Chi-Chi - who, every few months or so, will approach one of my basses as it sits on its stand, gently bite down on one of the strings, then pull back slightly before letting it go. I'll hear like an open G or open D coming from the other room, and I know that Chi-Chi is up to her tricks again. Very cute.

The dog likes my playing, except when the bow comes out. I'm not very good with it, and the screeching makes him tuck tail and hide.

The wife's cat used to mistake my G&G case for a Motel 6, sleeping in it every chance he got. We had to put him down, a couple of years ago, but every time I open that case, it reminds me of him... he was actually a pretty cool cat, and I'm more a dog lover, so he definitely left an impression on me, as well as the case.

I took this picture about 3 years ago when I was practicing some tunes for church on my Squier and my Mother's cat decided to join in. He is a cool cat layin' down a heavy groove. LOL

Roger, my little too big Old English Sheepdog loves to stay with me while I play DB in my "studio". Just sits there and watch me play. But he HATES when I try to play the saxophone. Barks, grunts and howling, a lot of them. I just don't play it anymore because of that.
