Post Your Pedalboard 25: Parcheesi!

Status
Not open for further replies.
A couple weeks ago, I was checking the "Basses" board, feeling completely happy with my basses and rig, suffering no GAS, but definitely getting bored reading the same ol' Fendery threads. Then, I decided (innocently enough) to check out the "Effects" section. After all, I've never really used any, so the posts at least would be interesting. Well...a little research gave me a little knowledge and bad case of GAS, which resulted of course in purchases from the "Classifieds," boutique builders, and a couple online dealers.

Figuring this stuff out and putting it together was a blast, and I'm having
fun finding a ton of great sounds. Still, I do think someone really
ought to write a sticky warning label for the top of this forum.

Hook line and sinker. If you have the brackets that PPII should fit up under the Pedaltrain (I think that's a PT) leaving room for; gasp [behndy voice]MOAR PEDALZ[/behndy voice].

Dangit, I dunno WHY I didn't look! I always examine a pedal's innards when I have it.

All I have to say is HOLY FREAKING PITCHFACTOR.

Since I did just get the PF, and I'm selling the Groove Regulator, and waiting on my other fuzzes, I conjured this puppy up today for a new band audition:

It WAS going to be inclined a bit, but it wouldn't fit in my bass HSC, so I flattened it, and it's STILL too tall (the pedal knobs impede). Rubber feet, 1spot.

The wife wants to know why I'm chuckling.

FuzzeeMudddee - so.... you're REALLY not into protecting that Logic Box are you?

what a well thought out and reasonable response. doesn't make my mindless babble look silly next to it at all. really. well played sir. well played.

i'm thinking about putting together a "fun noise" board to run either with my main board or alone with synth/drum machine type stuff. that's why the Murf's are kinda interesting to me i guess. the "arpegiation of audio signal" stuff is pretty neat. step filters rokk hot fire.

luckily, the place i love to buy from in Berkeley stocks a bunch of MoogerFoogely stuff.

The MUTT -

freaking EAR worm. doesn't help that i have a chunk of that as my "who dat?" ring tone on my phone.

the vocals are just ridiculous in that song. i'm not a huge fan of the bouncy, happy bassline.....

but the vocals? they could be layered over the sound of my grandparents going at it covered in mayonnaise and i'd still want to listen to it 17 times a day.

......... i sorta love Chell. in an unhealthy way. MUCH better than some stubbie fur toed Hobbit.

You see the thing is moogers are like what they are based on modular synth components so you kind of have to know what you are shooting for and what sound you need. For me I started with the phase and liked it. Then the filter which after going though five other filters I just like the sound of it best, despite the bypass I just like it, I will even admit that it was the one I wanted in the first place when I started getting back into FX heavy a few years ago but do to the cost I didn't get one so I ended up buying a FX25, a Q-tron and 00funk first... And in the end it would have saved me time and money to have just got the moog because that was the sound I wanted. Then I needed a rigmod and I thought that since I already had two moogers and with all the CV control and whatnot it was my best choice. It took me a long time to be sold on the Freqbox, why, because there are almost no good demos of it where people get actually usable sounds for SONGS they just make noise... now I like noise but not the noise sounds most people were getting, the ONLY good demos are on TB and there are only two. I have been going further and further into getting synth sounds so I needed a unit that did what the FB does. And I have plans down the road to get another or even two so I could have more oscillators. But this is all out of a musical "need" for what I wish to do, I know that I'll end up spending about the same as getting a synth and that is fine as that is what I am shooting for.

But! What sound are YOU trying to get? See I really am the last one to ask "what new toy should I get" because even if it is impulse I always have a implied use or idea for a thing before hand. I have spent lots of time reading and reading and looking at vids and listening to samples and then reading more so before I get anything I have read up everything I can find on it. So again what sound do YOU need?;)

Despite the lack of good demos the Freq Box is Freqing schweet. Kind of a Moog's version of the BMS or Source Audio MWBDP (obviously apples and oranges but there seems to be some cross pollination).

OK, in no particular order here, and there will be cake and grief counseling available afterward for those who need it...

behindy - remember that I've not been doing this as long a lot of y'all have been, so a lot of stuff is still new to me, and maybe the 'significant change' statement was a bit over-stated. So anyway, as of last week...

...changes are that the SCP is now on my bedroom 'board' (which is actually just the top of my amp in there) and replaced by a MXR/CAE 401 Boost/Line Driver; the Guyatone chorus is on it's way to Count Bassie; the VT will move to the left to make space for the Muff. For me, that's a lot of changes. Fuzz-wise, I've had a stock NYC Muff before but dealt it off due to the not-much-low-end part of a stock NYC Muff, and so the incoming modded one represents my first bass fuzz but probably not my last, which is why I'm hoping to trade off the Mini for a Jr. A pic will be posted after the Muff arrives and is placed, etc.

And he's 'Mud' with one D...I'm 'Mudd' with two D's...simple really and please, no bra cup size jokes, OK?

And if Ep. 3 doesn't come out sometime next year, I'm gonna need cake and grief counseling!

Well, muff, yeah, I just didn't know which breed until recently

;)

And now my ignorance shows through cause I'm kind of confused as to the significance of that realization.

EDIT: I'm chuckling because the other day I was entertaining the idea of using cardboard to make up a smaller version of my slightly tore down pedalboard for a rehearsal. It just wound up being easier to rebuild the board as it was. That said I'm not using everything on my board in that particular band and I really need to downgrade. A PT-Mini would be fine.

I'm learning that most fuzzes are either Muff clones or clones of I can't remember what the other one is off hand, but the idea is that they're most all based on one or the other, right?

Quite a few Fuzz Face clones out there as well. Or Swollen Pickles, but THOSE are Muff-based.
Then there are original builders like Ryan at Dr. Scientist and Brian at smallsound/bigsound that just rock faces.

And now my ignorance shows through cause I'm kind of confused as to the significance of that realization.

Mudd mentioned having a NYC Muff, and I was like "Oh yeah! Share the knowledge!!"

Okay I'm still no clearer than I was on post 691 but only now feel left out as well. Oh how badly I want to feel included.

(grygrx is going to have our arses,...this has got to be one of the noisiest PYPB incarnations evar.)
