Quilter has something new on the way?

According to the manual of the BB800/802 the predecessor amps were "safe" below 4 ohms but could trigger protection circuits if overdriven:

"The BassBlock is ideal for driving 4-8 ohm loads. 16 ohm power will be reduced, and the amplifier will begin to protect itself as described above if driven hard into impedances less than 4 ohms. However, no harm should result." (from the BB800 manual, the BB802 has similar wording).

I agree with the XLR take. There's no reason a modern amp should be missing that. I already had a couple direct boxes so it wasn't a problem but that was an odd choice.

Perhaps, or the opposite. Some folks will find that the 800 or 802’s will suffice for their needs and they will offload the 803’s after they get them.

The Quilter rig performed as expected - awesomely! I had the 803 docked into the Bassliner 210w on top of a Bassliner 210c, and let me tell you, that is a slick-looking, light to carry, heavy hitting, awesome sounding rig! This was at an outdoor venue along the Sandusky River - one of my favorite local venues. I had the Gain at about 1 o'clock on the 803, and the Master at about 2 o'clock, and it felt like it wasn't close to breaking a sweat. The Bassliner cabs are very clear and articulate, and I found that with those cabs, outside, I had my best results with the Voice set to Warm. EQ was fairly minimal, with a slight reduction on the Treble knob and Bass set to about 1:30pm.

The XLR out performed very well, and very much what you would expect. Since I am always reviewing different gear, I am sending a different signal to the bass channel on my board every gig, and the 803's DI feed was right in the range, gain-wise, of what I am used to seeing. It sounded very, very good through the PA, as well.

Quilter tells me there has been a slight delay on the official release of the 803, but they assure me it's still coming (and coming relatively soon)!

I just played a gig with a supplied backline with a Quilter 800 and 3 Genzler cabinets. I had the gain at about 2:00 but the master was set just above 40 watts and it was plenty loud. Apparently the Genzler speakers are very effecient.
Hope the pricing for the 803 is competitive.

Yeah, fairly loud. Being outside, it wasn't obnoxiously so, but I did have to turn it up a bit (to where you see the settings in the photo) once our guitar player and keyboard player kicked in at their full/final volume.
