Okay…is it just me, or is that car leering, almost hungrily?! (the upper-left pic) I can see why you got rid of it. I mean, who'd want that to be the first thing you see when you open up a poorly-lit garage? (You did get rid of it, right? Like, with fire and holy relics?!)

what's next ... ??? just got a 2015.5 Volvo XC60 ( wife ) ... I'm not sure I wanna get into more low riding cars any more ... arthritis is catching up with me ... I really like the 2016 VW Golf R , but it sits pretty low .... might look into some type of smaller turbo AWD cross-over .. ?? I know that pretty boring ... ):

In this context, this is one of those "sorta-is/sorta-isn't funny" situations. I joke with my clients all the time to the tune of, "Oh, by the way…if you should ever happen to suddenly get rich and famous, do bear in mind that I make for great entourage-material. I even earn my keep!". And yet, here I find a couple with health-issues that someone with my skill-set could help with (20-year career in massage/neuromuscular therapy), but just the thought of even making such an offer in jest makes me feel…I dunno, kinda dirty. :(

Oh, the delicious irony, yes?

And no, I'm definitely not making an offer. If nothing else, I live really far away. However, I do make it a point to offer free advice and tips to anyone with a physical issue that falls within my scope of practice. (Take heed, all you Repetitive Stress sufferers! ;))

And for the record, VW's rock-it something fierce…especially the TDI's! Ri-donk-ulous MPG, nearly immortal (a car-parts guy called mine "a baby" when it was just under 100k) and tough enough to survive getting poisoned by an inattentive fuel-jockey who put gasoline in by mistake! :smug:

One last thing; That "Toasty Jazz 74" looks amazing! I hope it went to a good home. Who knows? Maybe it'll land back in your lap someday.

It's hard to say, without having a copy to peruse myself. Invalid Link Removed The only part I was really "iffy" about where he touched upon Iridology. Fortunately, that was only a small part of the whole interview.

I feel I must qualify myself and my take on "alternative medicine". Style-wise, I'm a very nuts-&-bolts kind of therapist, more inclined towards the physical and physiological cause-&-effect. (I've grown very fond of chasing down the C&E's within my clients…it's almost like getting to play "DETECTIVE" and solve a big mystery) My primary training in Swedish Massage, Sports Massage and Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) may have me tilted more towards the "Western Medicine" end of the spectrum, as opposed to Shiatsu or Reiki. But that doesn't mean I don't believe there's more at work within the body than I, or my training, can account for. There's so much we simply do no know yet!

To further elaborate; A couple of years before going to massage school, I was a sort of "massage hobbyist". I picked up little tricks and techniques from others who were also peripherally interested in a good neck/back/foot rub. I went as far as to pick up an excellent book on Shiatsu and added a little bit of it to my "hobby". Then, when I started learning NMT, I had a significant revelation…although the science and/or mindset were on opposite ends of the spectrum, the implementation was almost identical. In other words, two different paths to the same source! So, my viewpoint tends to lean towards, "Hey, if it works, it works! There's probably a lot more going on than I can even begin to understand."

Oh, and whenever I run into someone who claims things like Reflexology is "all in you head" and "just a psychosomatic response", I counter with, "If it's all in our heads, why does it work on animals? Is a horse going to associate pressure around it's hoof as 'healing magic'?"

So, to make a long and incredibly boring story short, there could be a lot of credible information in said book. If it works for you and yours, with the added benefit of "not making you worse", then that's great! Keep it up!

This is a great thread.. I have often wondered what I would do if I won the lottery.. and how I would handle he scammers... It seems there are folks who make a side job out of hitting up lottery winners..

Wounded Warriors and St. Judes are most likely the only two charities I would drop a load on... I'd make sure all my kids' houses and grandkids' education was paid for.. and I would definitely upgrade the entire Fine Arts ministry in my church.. we need it... The rest as far as the "stuff".. I don't know .... I am sure there would be some stuff... but I have always been one of those folks who didn't need a whole lot and hated to waste stuff.. I have sold basses just because I don't play them and feel like they are just going to waste...

Great story though Dave.. thanks for sharing.. A lot of folks would not have been so open.

....definitely the most entertaining read on TB.....and non-fiction to boot......looks to me like if you have the coin left....a Tesla P85D is screaming your name :-)

Never understood the concept of winning money then spending huge amounts of it on autos.
So much money can do in the world but it seems the superficial stuff wins out.
Congrats on the easy life though, at least financially.
Everyone's dream including mine.

i agree with leaning towards Western medicine ... tried some acupuncture a couple times ... felt more like a voodoo doll than anything else ..!! but i have interest in proprioceptors and such stuff ... and prefer finding ways to help myself .. my wife has sisters into the rather mystic healing stuff .. there's just not enough data for me to dig in to ... went to a chiropractor a couple times , ... which to me , seemed more dangerous than helpful ..! i would prefer massage and maybe some work by an DO ... which i've been contemplating switching from my internest to a DO ... since most of my issues seem mostly mechanical , ... and i'm looking for exercises to help myself ( versus hurting myself .! ) thanks for the info ...!! i'm glad many of you enjoy my recent history ( the 20 yrs ) ... it has enabled my folks to do things for our church ( in Ohio ) ,... since they could spend the money they would want to pass on ...!

before winning the lotto ... i'd think i was a fairly normal non-traveling musician ... working days and nights ... 6-7 a week , with 3-4 being about 20 hrs long ... day gig in electronics or music store , playing music 4-6 nights a week ... wife #2 , 1 kid , 4 acres , 4 horses , 6 dogs , cats everywhere , a goat , a bunny ... a freakin petting zoo ...!! went 20 yrs without a vacation ... but that has been made up for ..!

kinda lost my interest in fast and/or overly expensive cars ... with wife's neck/back surgeries ... and people are just jackholes that don't really care if you have a nice car as they bash their doors or carts into it ..!

we've been in Florida about 15 out the last 20 yrs ... and i've only told about a dozen people about the lotto ...
i just figured this was the place to share ... having my life long love of music ... piano/bass / etc ...

Firstly, thanks and no problem!

Second, what's a "DO"? Doctor of Osteopathy?

Let alone I'm sure you sold or traded in most of those cars, so it's not like you spent $80 grand on it, then just threw it away.

But thanks for sharing, you seem humble and didn't let it go to your head (too much? Lol).
I'm glad you have enjoyed your lucky windfall. Seems like it happened to a nice guy.

thanks ... it was rather strange a couple times when we had 3-4 cars that were worth more than or house .. !

Yeh Malak ... my wife grew up going to an osteopath ... and one of old band mates is a navy doc/DO ... she always called them a " DO " ... ??

spelling/grammar are not my first language .. !

the latest of vehicles ... got rid of my hot hatch ... Focus ST ... living next to , and helping to care for my folks has also lead me to lose my need for speed ... comfort and practicality wins ... plus i needed something my wife or elderly mother could actually drive if they needed to ... so now we have another mid-sized SUV ..
a new loaded up Ford Escape Titanium AWD turbo ... since i do want to get back up north in a couple years , awd is my favorite ...

my experience with Port Richey Ford left a bad taste in my mouth ... and i won't return to Frouk Housien's dealership for anything , ... i doubt the employees will learn how to listen any time soon ...there's enough other dealers around Tampa and Pasco county to go to ..!!

so basically , the dog has a new car ..!! ha

got 3 of 6 last week ... won $5 ... yehhhh ... but another ticket and some milk ...

that ticket has 4 of 6 ... should be about $80 ... but i'll still buy my usually 2-3 dollar ticket ... ! except i have a hard time playing the numbers again that just came up ... seems rather in probable .. !

go play .. !

DavC, as so many others have said this is a great read. Glad to see someone win big and not turn into a douche canoe and/or fritter away all the money in the blink of an eye. I've reached the point mentally where if I played and won, I'd buy a house, a nice car or two, set my daughter up for college, and then just live my life simply but comfortably. I don't want "stuff" anymore, I just want to do fun things with people I love. Sounds like you're largely the same, plus the cars =0) (truth be told, I've had 20+ cars in 20 years myself, but certainly not without shouldering the debts!)
