Yeah, that's what I mean. The guitar gear was a big factor in his sound. I guess I didn't word that very succinctly, though. If I remember correctly, a large part of his sound in his later years was due to a Digitech tube guitar effects processor.
Sometimes, guitar gear can give you exactly what you're looking for, but sometimes you might find it lacking, just like bass gear. Oftentimes (Entwistle's Hiwatt rigs are a great example), it works to have guitar amps and whatnot, but you find it works better to have them backed up with bass gear as well.
Usually I only use 2x15 cabs for live shows, but if I'm feeling lazy or its a small bar- I might add a 4x12 guitar cabinet. This one is actually a Fender GE-412 with an Ampeg badge. Not sure what the speakers are but I know they are stock. If I use the 4x12, I always run it with an all tube bass head, and to me it sounds richer than many 4x10 bass cabinets I've tried out.
Try it out at "live" volume levels - I wouldn't baby it. If the tone works and it doesnt "fart" or blow out - use it. Just make sure you are running the correct ohms for your head.

I load my cabs with bass drivers.......................... and I blow those on a regular basis.

where did you get an ampeg like? or did you just DIY the paint job?

Just picked this up 2x18 tonight for my band and Sons occasional DJ Gig.
I should use this for practices that would really give my bothersome neighbor to complain about.

This is my rig at my last gig, Thursday just gone, not really doomy buts the biggest i've had it. First gig with the new head got it the day before had to borrow the trace elliot cab till i get a 1x15 to get the impedance to total up.
Just picked this up 2x18 tonight for my band and Sons occasional DJ Gig.
I should use this for practices that would really give my bothersome neighbor to complain about.

how do you match it with the rest of your gear?
The Cabinet is a Madison Cab,It didnt really match my gear but it didnt clash to bad either.
I put "didnt' because to make a long story short when I went to look at the cabinet I didnt have any of my gear with me but the guy that was selling it assured me twice that he had a amp to test it out on so I show up with my Digital Multi Meter (allways) and He has it hooked up to a 60 watt solid state guitar combo amp with a 6 string guitar
It sounds good with guitar and Ohm checks fine so I pay the $200 and load it up by now its 10pm and I fiqure I better wait till morning to let it rip.
The next morning I hook up to my Carvin DCM1500 Bridged and hit a note on my bass and it rattles just like cone drag so I pull the covers off and sure enough they are both dragging, the top one worse that the bottom.
I put in a call to the guy and as I allready new he was selling it for his church so he said bring it back for a refund and sure enough he stood by his word and refunded me all of the money.
I did pull the top speaker and what I think happened is that the frame was bent and misaligned the cone because if you pushed on just one side of the speaker you could get the drag to go away on both of them.The speakers are Madison Executioner with a 200oz magnet and even though it is a cast frame the cabinet could have easily been dropped during shipping or something.
I did offer him $50 for it as is and he is going to check with the church and see what they want to do but I think that he was pretty embarrased and doesnt want to deal with it anymore,I fiqure I will call him tommorrow and see if he talked to them.
The Cabinet quality was just okay,even for the short 20 seconds I had it hooked up I was able to get the back wall of the cabinet to flutter pretty badly so it would defienetaly need some bracing to use it.
I will post if I do pick it up.

I did a Google search for those speakers and you can get recone kits for $20 each!!!

Thanks for the tip I also found that but I am still concerned that the frames may be bent but you wouldnt know until you tried the new kits or cut the dust caps out of the old ones possibly.
I have done surrounds on old Advent speakers before but never the entire cone with the webbing so I would take them to a local guy who knows what he is doing.

Here she is, not racked up and waiting for a Sansamp RBI. She's just being tested to make sure it all works nicely before I lock it away in a rack. That Com-Tech 410 is an absolute horror to rack up, big ol' transformers littered around inside.

The PV3800 supplies 1224 clean continous watts per side to the Wharfedale EVP-X18B's which have a wonderful D-161B Cambridge driver in them, the same as the upper market models. The Peavey also crosses the signal at 120Hz as 24dB/oct Butterworth, perfect for the Com-Tech to push the 810TX. Nice high damping factor and fast slew rate means a wonderful, dynamic jump-right-up-and-bite-your-ballsac punch.
Pre-amp is my own design based on a few products, the compressor is a Yamaha GC2020MKII. Top it all off with a DBX graphic and an A/B switch to switch between comp and EQ channels and an oldschool MIDIVERB and you have my Rig of Doom.
