I must say that this is the second bass I’ve had with the Bart 3 band pre and Nordstrand pickups and I love this combo.

That bass is B-E-A-U-TIFUL! The quilt top on that one is quite possibly the nicest I’ve ever seen. Of course having played it I know it’s also a great playing and sounding bass.
Truth is, that bass has had many different configurations and brand of preamps and pickups and regardless of what they were it always sounded great!
I had ordered a set of P4 Fatstacks to put in my LG3005 with the single coil switch. I had a Valenti with Fatstacks and coil switching and really loved it. But the more I play it, the more I like the Roscoe Barts with this coil option. I think I'll save the Fatstacks for my next build.
Joe, in your box of strings were there a set of Ironwork strings? I'm curious to know if anyone has tried these strings and their thoughts about them.
Gorgeous Roscoe bass, for sure. Do you know which Nords those are? Single coil, single-coil size humbucker w/coils side by side, or single-coil size humbucker w/coils stacked? Then, there's the issue of "special winds" which only the ordering customer would know. I'm stalled in the minutia of the topic/possibilities, as you can see.
So, what exactly is it that you love about these pickups? Also, can you compare them to something else, say a more standard Roscoe offering of Bart 57J pickups?
Not my intent to be challenging, just trying to understand/expand my horizon, specifically in the context of Roscoe 5 string bass with Bart 3-band pre and single-coil size pickups (not soaps). Thanks!

I tried a set a couple of years ago. They are a good nickel round-wound string but nothing spectacular. I really liked the packaging. I like the DR Nickel lo-riders a lot better for feel, tension and sound. If you can find the Ironworks on sale give them a try. Everyone has a different preference.

I did try some Ironworks strings a while back and they simply did not sound very good, even right out of the very cool tin package. Went back to good ol’ D’addario Nickels.
Disclaimer: I don’t own a Roscoe bass, but a good buddy of mine does and I think it’s a wonderful instrument. So I kinda follow along on the Roscoe pages.

The guy that I bought my first Roscoe from didn’t even play bass. He bought a couple of them and kept them at his house for basses players to play (and to have musicians hang out at his house).

I'm thinking of reinstalling my favorites, recording a short sound clip and letting you guys decide.
So it's a rainy day and I had a little bit of time to play around with my bass so I reinstalled my 4 favorite strings and recorded a short riff (finger style and with a pick).
All controls on my Roscoe Custom Century PJ were set flat (pan control set to center).

I would agree. The tapes with a pick had a really unique sound too.
Anyone tried DR Nickel Lo-Riders on a Roscoe with Barts and Bart pre? I’m thinking of trying a set.
Which strings sound the best? All of the ones played by Joe on a Roscoe
