Roscoe SoundClips 3 (from Roscoe Forum)

I sure can't tell you Roscoe guys anything you don't already know. However, I have found that the Roscoe basses really sound GREAT with the Aguilar TH350/500 (that Greg happens to sell!). Kind of takes a bit of the modern Bartolini edge off and results IMO in very nice, articulate, warm punch. I was surprised how well this worked.

The bass sounds awesome with my Glockenklang, but maybe a bit of 'too much of a good thing'. We will have to see on that. The Aguilar is a winner though.

Yeah, I use that yin/yang sort of approach a lot, especially with lightweight amp rig components. Maybe pair a lightweight head with a ceramic cab to warm up what can be a harsh sounding head. Or use an old school head with a neo cab for a similar sort of result. Doesn't always work, but it often does....

Sounds great, Steve. There's your first end to end test. Very nice!

My initial advice - start looking at your EQ's. Think of the bass and the kick drum "owning" 250 Hz and below. Between High Pass Filters (HPF's) and low cut shelf filters, you can thin out things like chord parts, melody parts, cymbals, etc. If you only have a stereo mix for the drums, that can be tough to do. But thin out what you can, and do it while listening to the mix. You'll be amazed how much low end you can cut out of stuff to get it out the way of the bass and kick.

I'm kit sure how much EQ control I have with GarageBand. Like I said, I just plugged in and played quick to get something done.

I'll have to delve into GB and see what I can do. Then I'll have to come up with some arrangements.

That only applies to the desktop version of GarageBand. Can't do it on the iPad - at least that I can find. I'll have to research some more - or dump my iPad stuff to my desktop. Unfortunately, my desktop is slower than my iPad.

More Roscoe PJ action. This one is the cherry burst 4-string that I recently received.

All of the bass tracks were recorded direct through my REDDI tube DI. I used this Roscoe Century Standard Plus PJ 4-string. The bassline and solo parts are all P pickup, the melody is PJ, and the chords and harmony part are all J.
