Schecter Owners Club, part 3

It is a funny thing in New Orleans. You can make more money playing out in the burbs than you can in town. (And it is safer too. 2:30 a.m. load out in town with gear and cash makes me uneasy.)

Places outside of NOLA can have outdoor gigs so we are looking for those, but NOLA is starting to open up a little. How are things going out there?

There are still no public events allowed in most of the S.F. area, but all the statistics are trending in the right direction, so we're hopeful that maybe in, say, a couple of weeks, things will start to open up. A couple of counties have reopened restaurants for indoor dining, and youth sports, but just those couple of counties.

I have been looking at getting a Stiletto Studio 4 but then I saw the SLS Elite which looks great. I checked out some reviews and demos but I could not find one to try out locally. Any SLS owners able to give some feedback? I am curious if the binding is noticable when playing as I have never played a bass with binding.

I got this 2003 Schecter Stiletto Studio 5FL here about 6 months ago. I'd love to join the club and get a number if that type of thing is happening. I don't care for the bridge however, and am thinking of replacing it with maybe a gold Omega 5 bridge . . . anyone swapped their bridge out for something else yet? The pots are pretty noisy too, so I was thinking about a new pre-amp/control harness. Suggestions? Thanks!

I installed an Aguilar OBP-3 preamp in my Stiletto Studio 5 and it made a huge difference, I love it.

I've been getting interested in the Schecter basses recently, and I'm hoping you folks can answer a few questions for me.

Body Shapes

It appears that the SLS, Apocalypse, GT, and Omen basses all have the same body shape. Is that correct?

5-String Body Size and Scale Length

Since the 5-strings have a 35-inch scale length, is the body size slightly larger, or do they use the same size as the 4-strings? It looks like the bridge is slightly closer to the edge of the body on the 5-strings, so I'm guessing the body is the same size.

On a related note, how noticeable is the extra length on the 5-strings? Also, do the high strings sound twangy at that length?

Neck Thickness and Feel

The specs on the SLS/Apocalypse/GT 4- and 5-string basses are very similar to the Ibanez Soundgear (SR) basses. Here are the thickness specs for the two lines:

SLS etc.
Thickness: @1st Fret- .787” (20mm)/ @ 12th Fret- .866” (22mm)

SR
19.5mm at 1F, 21.5mm at 12F

The widths at the nut are the same.

Can anyone comment on how similar the necks feel to Ibanez SR necks? I love the slender necks on the SRs, and I'm hoping these Schecters will feel just as fast.

I own schecters and ibanez and bounce between. They're both fast and fun

Looking to nab another Schecter bass. Bought an Apocalypse C4 and loving the tones... and weight and playability.

Am interested in picking up another 4 string Schecter. I play finger style in a cover band, playing stuff from 50s to today. Some mellow songs, some very hard rocking.

I’m curious about the tones of the following basses, as they all have different pickups and electronics.

SLS Elite/Evil Twin
Stiletto Studio
Hellraiser Extreme

How would you describe the sonic signatures of each bass above?

And, which do you think can morph and pull off the variety of songs coming from all decades?
