Hey all,

I once upon a time owned a stiletto custom, and now think I’d like to own a stiletto elite 4. From what I can tell, there’s two versions of the elite, one with a full piece bridge, and one with monorail bridge pieces for each string. Is one era any more revered than the other? Truthfully I like the look of the ones where the neck through is shown through the body. Thanks!

To add to what the professional musician above me linked, you're looking at about half that for the bass pick-ups, which are hungrier still.

For someone who owns a stable of 5-stringers it's a non-issue, IMHO.
For me, who doesn't own a 5-string and would likely be spending a dozen hours a week with it plugged in, it'd be a bother.

80-130h seems about right. Pretty sure I change my battery around once every 4 months or so just to be sure on my evil twin. To be fair, I'm really only using it for rehearsal and shows. Even before when I was using it at home for practice as well, 4 months was probably good enough. I hadn't noticed them being hungrier than my previous active basses.

Anecdotal rough estimations are nice and all, but Fishman themselves cite up to 60 hours for double pickup basses.
The other commonly employed active pickups are the various EMG ones, which last about 10 times as long.

Fishman Fluence pickups make great use of the juice they're drinking.
As said, if one owns other basses as well, it's far less of an issue.

Looking at picking up a 5-string soon. I've not really played many. Had a cheap ESP ltd B-55 that wasn't great, but I liked the neck after playing 4-strings for years. I prefer Jazz necks and had a Spector Euro with the thinner Doug Wimbish neck.

I just stumbled upon the Schecter J-5 and think it may be a good candidate. I wanted something similar to a Jazz but less than $1k. I haven't found a color in the Player series I really like, LoL. Also, after watching a nice video on YT about the Schecter J5, I'm really intrigued...but I have no place to put hands on one near me. For those that have tried them or play them, how are the necks really? Is it an easy bass for 5-string "noobs" to get used to?

The reason I'm wanting to switch to 5-string, is my band's tunings are pretty low and I have trouble keeping my Jazz 4's in tune or free from buzz/rattle etc. There's also a few songs I could play easier with that low-B string too.

I have the J5 and love it! It was my first 5 string and now it is what I primarily play.

Have you played a 34" 5 vs a 35" 5? Are you used to 19 or less spacing? There's a significant difference in how they feel. I prefer 35" fivers. I have a schecter P5 and laklands while both are 5s. The schecter is a bit narrower but the b string is so good plus it's light weight so it's a keeper so much so I'm looking at a j5 myself. If you've never really played either either may be a good choice. What ever you get make sure they have a return policy.

I'm not sure what scale that ESP Ltd was, but it had narrow string spacing. I kinda liked it. That was my worry with initially trying a 5-string bass. Neck width. I prefer Jazz to P-bass necks in a 4-string. My Spector Euro was a 35" scale and it didn't bother me switching back and forth between Fender and Spector...a little odd, but I did it.

Local GC has this bass in stock but in all black. I like the seafoam one better and it's in stock at Sweetwater. I may head down to GC to try it out. Our local GC is awful for bass selection. I'm incredibly surprised they actually have one of these on the rack.

Yeah check it out. if your ok with string spacing less than 19 you'll like it. See pass the setup issues at gc or see it they're willing to make adjustments. I'm sure it's B string is killer as well.
