I posted almost two years ago about this Custom 5 I received in a trade. I thought I made a mistake when I received it. Neck was backbowed, Nut slots were worn down, bridge pieces were awful. Stripped set screws and worn out slots. I got it set up to the point where it was playable but not up to my standards. So over all this time I’ve been working at as I go and when I had time. First I replaced each bridge piece with some aftermarket’s. Next up the EMG HZ pickups were replaced with two EMG 40’s along with the BTS preamp. Finally, just last night I replaced the worn out nut (I’ve never done that before) with a new GraphTech XL and shimmed the neck with a couple pieces of some card stock I had laying around. The end result is a bass that is up to my standards in playability and tone. I’m really happy I stuck with this instead of trying to offload it.
I'm looking at picking up one of these basses online at some point, and I'm wondering if every bass in this model was made in Korea. From the sounds of things they were pretty solid quality out of that factory.

I wanted a short scale P bass to put some flats on for a different sound and feel from the two other basses I use. After way too much time shopping and watching YouTube, I settled on a Schecter Banshee. I have a Schecter guitar I love, so I’m already biased in favor of the brand.
The problem is there are not many of these Banshees floating around. Not in any shop around here. All of the Banshees on Reverb were new but not local. Sweetwater of all places didn’t have them.
I saw one listed as used on Pro Audio Star for almost $200 cheaper than new. I’ve never ordered from them, but I saw a bunch of people saying they often list new stuff as used. So I rolled the dice, and bought it. I got lucky! It arrived in the original box, with the plastic still on it, completely new.
I put La Bella flats on it — my first try at flats, and this thing is fun to play. The neck is so smooth. It sounds great. I’m a big fan already.

Finally a part of the schecter family after grabing my studio 6. I checked the cavity to see that the preamp is the b64eq.
Only questions I have is if the pickups are indeed legit Hz's and how the bqs preamp pairs with the hz soapbars for those that have tried it?

Got my answer for the first question from EMG. Apparently, they no longer put HZ on their pickup caps.
Has anyone tried the BQS preamp with HZ pickups?
I was actually going to ask if anybody has tried replacing the stock electronics in the Stiletto Custom series with a Tone Monster, or any other preamp. Are the HZ's just like any standard passive humbucking PU?
Yah. They are a standard passive humbucking pickup similar to bartolini's made from ceramic and steel. In comparison to their CSX line, it sounds a little less powerful. At least with the b64eq preamp.

I have three Schecter Bass up for sale on Reverb now, two 6’ers and an 8 studio. More are to follow soon, thinning out the herd of like 20 or so. Just FYI here. If you guys are looking for something that is two or three on a side, was made in the last five or so years, let me know. Could place it in the “on deck position”.
Maybe I should ask the question this way. For those that have owned a stilleto studio, what preamp did you pair with the original pickups.

Yeah - on the Schecter site they claim it is an EMG two band EQ but the the potentiometer posts are not typical EMG style which are solid so it makes me wonder if they are something EMG makes for Schecter. I'm seriously thinking of replacing the stock electronics with a Tone Monster SKB-3AD.
Do you by chance have the stiletto custom? I think that eq is the BTS. I'm pretty sure that preamp has adjustable dip-switches for the treble.
My pre amp is by EMG. The b64eq to be exact. It's just the wiring is not at all correct according to the diagrams and I noticed that the volume and balance pot were not EMG.
You could say that I have a thing for Schecter…
Love my P5 , killer B. Being thinking about the J, string spacing is tighter than I like but my P sounds so good. How you liking the J,next it's either this or their stelleto P/MM...
