I've found that the Schaller 3D roller bridge does the trick. Granted, because of the different geometry, you need to move the roller spacers all the way to left, so the G is as far from the edge of the fretboard as possible to prevent slipping off. The big beauty part, is that you can get action literally on the frets if you want. That's not possible with the stock bridge.

I had an Ibanez RB850 bass back in the 80’s in which the original owner had installed a Schaller roller bridge. I always had an issue with a buzzing sound coming from the bridge which I was never able to remedy. Anyway, you have a very nice assortment of customized Stilettos.

Hmm, could've been the rollers for some reason. They should be silent with string tension on them (no problems with mine).

Finally got around to setting up the DP12 properly. Fret polish, fingerboard cleaning, restringing, truss and bridge adjustments... about 100x. Four hours later and tuned Db-Ab-Db-Gb:

It is a great representation of a Jazz bass, sounds great, plays phenomenally and has a cool coil tap for added tone options

Getting my Schecter Studio 5 redone with new pickups. EMG 40P5 and EMG 40 TW. These seemed like easy replacements as they are the same size and reasonably priced. Not many manufacturers have a P style pickup in a soapbar configuration.

This gives me a P pickup on the neck and the TW in the bridge. TW can has a push pull pot to toggle between Humbucker and Jazz modes. These are active pickups, so doing away with the onboard preamp and going with Vol/Tone Vol/Tone setup. Expect to get it back in a couple weeks, excited to see how it changes the sound.

Lately, along with more Stiletto Studios (have a total of 3), I bought an Ibanez Prestige SR4605, and an NS CR5 (headless). Well, after how much deliberation, I realized that my Schecters crush both the Ibanez, and especially the NS at over $3700. The most I paid for one of my Studios was around $900 (minus hardware mods). I'll be returning the NS, and if I can't return the Ibanez, selling that one.

The spacing and neck on the Studio is just home to me. I can play so effortlessly on these necks, and also impressive that they really don't have dead/weak spots...the NS actually has a dead/very weak spot, and the spine is carbon! The profile and radius on the Schecters make it so easy for a 35" bass, and the B-strings are almost god-like. My honey-satin Studio one was the bass at our last two-nighter downtown...sounded soooo good.

Also, my Studios have now taken my Carvin LB75A over as the #1s for gigging. How's that for bang-for-the-buck?

What mods did you make? I played the purple Studio for a while at GC and it was like heaven. The pickups seemed a little weak but the feel of the bass was amazing. It'll be real hard to not pick one up soon.

I put on either Hipshot Ultralite or Gotoh Resolite tuners, Dunlop straplocks, new knobs, and a Schaller 3D roller bridge (no drilling needed). The pickups aren't weak, just a weaker preamp. Turn the gain and/or volume up, and BOOM...attitude.

I have that exact setup in my Hellraiser Extreme 5. A P5 in the neck and a TW in the bridge position. I use GHS Precision flats and love how the bass sounds. Lots of possibilities. Great P, PJ, and together with the TW in dual (actually triple) coil, with the P slightly dimmed, there's a very musical complete sound, hard to describe, but very pleasing for tonal practising and soloing, and quite opposite to the P and PJ options. Please let us know how you like it.

Here is my Goldilocks string story for my Stiletto Custom 4:

Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinky - "These strings are too stiff!"
Dunlop Marcus Miller Superbrights - "These strings are too spongy!"
Rotosound RS66LD - "These strings are juuuuust right!!"

I should have known and just gone with what I already know. $40 lesson.

Got the bass back last week, and all I can say is wow, this is what I was looking for the whole time. The stock EMG HZ pickups don't necessarily sound bad, but a sort of hollow sound that I didn't really care for. Played at band rehearsal last night and everyone commented on how it sounded. P-Neck volume maxed, Tone at 75%, Bridge in Humbucker mode, Vol at 50%, Tone at 50%. While not a traditional Precision pickup, EMG did a great job at cramming it in a soapbar pickup. It's probably 90-95% the sound of a traditional Precision Pickup, which is good enough for me.

The TW pickup is OK, but not as high as output as the P, so need to make sure the P volume is balanced so you can actually hear it, volume drops when I go into single coil mode, so I usually have it in humbucker mode. My primary sound is the P anyways, and it blends in nicely so it does it's job.

The Studio 5 came with a Vol, Blend, 3 band EQ, and now have a Vol/Tone Vol/Tone, so now have a dummy pot in what was the previous MID pot that isn't hooked up to anything. For now it's just there for looks, and it won't look good if I try to fill it with wood or a stainless/black bolt/plug since the rest of the hardware is brushed gold. Maybe I leave it as is, maybe I plug it with a plastic plug and glue a pin to it, something that looks cool and interesting.

How big is the J5 body compared to a Fender? I love the look/tone but at 5’5” the offset Fender J body is just too big

I think the Fender and Schecter are pretty much the same size except that the Schecter is a 35” scale to the Fender 34” scale.

Picked up this a few weeks ago:

Silver mountain C4 in toxic venom. Got it Coz my wife said it was cool - had been keeping my eye out for a schector hellraiser extreme but they don’t appear here very often and then I realised I already have emg-tw’s in a Spector euro so when I saw this c4 had fishmans that I was interested in I jumped - with her push. Doesn’t hurt that it matches my berg gear….
Took it to rehearsal today, all I can say is WOW! For grindy rocky tones this thing is awesome! Goes from aggressive crisp tones to mellow p bass with a switch. Single coil mode not as “j” as the tw’s but still ok, if a bit lower in output. We played some angels today and the punch on the e and a strings was incredible. Lead guitarist was blown away by the tones. Kind of coming home to a j neck after my Spector and ebmm 42’s that I’ve been focusing on recently.
