Schecter Owners Club, part 3

Speaking of pics, I changed the hardware around on my Stiletto Studio wonders. One of the very few models I've ever owned that has gotten compliments from our sound crew, and people in the crowd (and I've owned a LOT of basses).

I will say this, this instrument might not sound the most interesting by itself, but it sounds great it a mix.

If someone wants a no nonsense clean J tone. This is what I’m using.

Good morning all. I recently picked up this bass (Schecter Diamond Series Deluxe 8-string, used) for what I believe was a pretty good price (by far the least expensive bass I have purchased, all used). It's a toy, as I've never had an 8-string and while I will have some use for it in the band I'm in, it is certainly not critical to the band's sound. It definitely needs some fret work (fret ends are very sharp), but sounds and plays well.

I haven't been able to find any info about this bass online. Can anyone provide any info on this model bass? Thanks in advance.

Anyone replace the preamp in their Stiletto Studio? I never use the preamp (run it flat), but have on other basses that were active/passive, when my pedalboard has acted weird (or I've forgotten it). What's a good a/p preamp to use (preferably 3-band)? I like Bartolini, and have heard really good things about Delano and Nordstrand. Not a fan of Aguilar, though. I like a hi-fi, modern tone, but would like a flexible preamp, regardless.

It's been awhile since I've posted on here and now that I've got a new toy seems like a good time to post again. So here's my one day old Schecter C4 GT Natural:

Those EMG pickups and preamp are excellent. It's got killer tone and hot output with a beautiful finish. And surprisingly to me it sounds quite similar to this:

I've never heard another bass come close to a Stingray so that made me all the more interested in getting it.:bassist:

Here's my Schecter Omen Extreme as well which I have owned for probably 5 years-ish:

I've also owned a Stiletto Custom in natural before, but that's gone now.

Yes I agree and thank you. I'm still really surprised with the tone. Very growly and clear with the perfect amount of treble for me at center detent. I did bump up the bass to about 60% and the tone is perfect for me with both pickups on. Again I find it very Stingray-ish which I happen to love.

The body is similar to the Omen except that the back is beveled out more making it feel a bit thinner. And in looking at the pictures I posted I just realized that I've actually owned the Omen now for 10 years, not 5. Amazing how time flies. I actually tried changing the strings and EQ-ing the Omen to sound similar to the GT, it sounds good, but the GT is a different animal. Those EMG pickups and preamp are excellent. :bassist:

The GT is similar to the SLS series.
I have 2 Evil Twin 5s and love them.

There was a time when I was really interested in an SLS Elite in Antique Fade Burst or Black Fade Burst. Then I got into a Stingray HH and Jazz Bass kick and the SLS never happened. Not that I'm regretting it now as I love Stingrays and Jazz Basses, but maybe now is a good time to look at an SLS again or even the GT in Satin Charcoal Burst. We'll see, right now I'm enjoying the natural and the two contrasting wood colors on the front and side is really nice. :cool:

That is a 1996 S series. The S series are U.S. built and their attempt to make a more affordable instrument by using a oil finish. There were strats, J’s and P’s in blue, red and natural. In light swamp Ash. Most had Monstertones in them but this originally had a DiMarzio split p with pull pot coil tap. I have since put in a Sheptone for a more traditional p tone. The one piece Qsawn neck is among the best I’ve ever had and just wonderful. I had this refin’d by Pat Wilkins who was an Schecter original. You may recognize the head stock shape that came out of that shop. For many many years and perhaps to this day Pat still does some finishing for them. Its a killer bass. You might still find the old S series, few were made back then for a couple years. I first saw one in Lab sound in Hollywood which later turned into MesaBoogie Hollywood. Which is now gone but back then you had to make an appointment to get in lol. They were out of my reach back then even at a “cheaper model “ price but I found this one years later at Bass NW, now also gone. The S series has the California plate.
