Schecter Owners Club, part 3

Incredibly happy with my CV-5 after years in a quest for the ultimate 5-string Fender killer. Blows so many other candidates out of the water, even some more expensive ones. MANY posts from these Schecter Owners Club threads helped in my decision so THANK YOU ALL! Initially I was craving for a Model T Session 5, but went for the CV-5's extra versatility. I feel stupid for not giving Schecter a go way before. TOP brand.

Your Model T could be modded very easily, eliminating one of the Volume Controls and adding a Switch.

I played a CV-5 at my local Guitar Center, briefly, and dug the funky, somewhat modded vibe it had. Didn't really get to play it through an amp, but always kept it in the back of my mind. Found one, on clearance, at a GC in Indiana, and snagged it, quickly. First gig I played it, two of my bandmates gave unsolicited compliments on how my tone was better than it had been, and that it was clearer than before. I noticed it too, and it's been my main gigging bass ever since. I still bring a backup, which, for now, is another brand or type of bass entirely, but I'm keeping my eye out for a natural CV-5 with the rosewood board, for a little variety. I don't know what it is about these pickups, but they are something special. I can do P, PJ, J, MM/J tones with the coil splitting. It always sounds clean and clear, and can get aggressive, if need be. These are easily flying under the radar.

It IS definitely versatile at the Fender-esque game, but with more of the exact things I like to have. I'm a Stingray5 guy, own 2 (both pre-2008, ceramic magnet PU), it's been MY bass for 90% of my game for the last almost 20 years. But I still like me some P and J tones and have been forever wanting something that plays/feels like my Ray 5ers (best 5er neck ever) and has such bite/punch, lowend authority, the aggressive mix cutting lo-mid burp magic, such responsiveness (gets wild easier, you have to dig in much less to achieve "Geddy" wild levels), the real low B (most Fenders' low Bs suck), while being timbrically in the Fender ballpark. Outstanding at all of it.

Okay,no sooner said than done! Edbo,kept his word,and today he installed the 3 way switch on the Model T. Fortunately,we only live about 40 miles from each other. No problem for someone that knows what they are doing! Didn't really like the two volume controls,now I can control the pickups,with the 3 way switch. Thanks,again! Edbo

Scuba Slap says "he just found a Raiden Special that weighs 11 pounds".

Stingray69 says "That can't be right, I own one of these and it's one of the lightest basses in my collection.

I find this/these very interesting and I've found a few less than a half a day drive away, very cheap. Schecters Vault Specs show they have the wide P width neck @ the nut.:bassist:

11 pounds seems awfully heavy though !

Does anyone else have an opinion or example to weigh and an opinion of the quality ???

I realize for the past 20 years now, Schecter is mainly known to the masses through their Diamond series, but they also have a Custom Shop and a line of USA production models. That's pretty much what Schecter was known for after they got out of the parts business and started producing completed instruments before the Diamond Series. I've been after for many years now, just how close you can bring a hollow/semi hollow design to the Fender template. So I contacted the Schecter Custom Shop about making a hollow Model T, and this is what they came up with so far. I'm working with them to see how much of the center block we can take out. As you can see, it will have both a forearm contour and a tummy cut. The bass should be in my hands sometime next month.

It will have a mahogany body with a maple neck and ebony fingerboard. Black hardware. Michael Anthony Custom Shop PJ pickups. Either a black or pearliod pickguard. Finished in this color (metallic candy apple greenburst) with a matching headstock. I'm one excited dude! :hyper::bassist:

Have them send me a lightweight 4 string Model T Body to evaluate.;)

I updated that post after I put my Raiden 5 on a kitchen scale with an accuracy of + or - 1gram. It weighed 8lbs, 11oz and that is for a 5-string.
