Schroeder Cabinets ... smart design = very compact ! (regular and lights)

Well I got my 1210 today. UPS screwed the pooch and it was an ordeal getting delivered to my dorm hall. I honestly can't hear any difference with any setting on the tweeter, so it is staying off. I rarely slap, so I imagine the tweeter might help if I needed a ton of treble.

This thing is very nice. My only cabinet that I have to reference this to is my SVT410HLF that I used previously. The Scroeder has a little more mids but seems to actually have a similar tonality to my ears. I'm not very picky when it comes to my sound, other than it should sound correct for the technique that I am using. Namely chords, my Peavey combo is far too muddy to properly use even simple double-stops.

Maybe thickness with clarity would describe my desired tone. If I want mud I'll roll off the tone on my basses.

60lbs lighter is one major benefit over the Ampeg. Though-out handles are nice as well. I dig it enough to keep.

Well, since this monster thread already popped back up to the first page of the site, I thought I'd post regarding using my 1210 this weekend. I've been using the 1210 for my smaller gigs regularly, but had a difficult load in this weekend, and a situation where I had to move my rig three times throughout the course of the evening (it was one of these over the top private things with cocktails in one room, etc., etc.). So... even though the band was large and loud (9 piece 70's funk/dance band) and the room was large, I decided to bring the 1210 instead of my regular large rig cab. I used my Walter Woods Ultra and my MTD 535. What a fantastic cab.... that combination worked great.... plenty of punch, plenty of volume even when slapping during the last set. Simply amazing!

I used my 1210 on Saturday night for an outdoor gig...we played in a tent .... actually a group of tents in a backyard of a ritzy residential area here in Cleveland for a wedding reception. The mom of the bride is a friend of one of the bandmembers.

Used the 1210 and AI Focus/31 band DoD eq and Mike Lull M5V. 8 pieces, no PA support needed. It was perfect. Nice cut through, plenty of bottom, clean and punchy, and nice non-earsplitting highs.

I knew this gig would be an ultra pain in the butt ingress egress and decided to take the 1210 vs the 410. It was definitely the right decision.

This cabinet/head/bass/me? combination just sounds great.

Mr. Jung....how does your Rob Allen sound through this rig?

After over a year's worth of minor tweaks here and there to my system, I'm really, really happy with my tone at this point.

Tweakage:

* EQ fine-tuning (SR5 & Dem 201S preamp: think I have this nailed down -- only adjustments should be for room acoustics and the condition of the strings I have on my bass)
* Re-tubing my Dem with Jan Philips 12AX7WA tubes
* Adjusted the internal trim-pot on my Dem
* Tried various setting on my PLX power amp (clip limiter, filters, stereo or parallel settings while in bridge mode)
* I like DR Low-Rider strings, I tried a nickel plated set and like them better than the stainless steels
* Tried various positions of the angled baffle with my cab -- settled on horizontal
* Plugged the 0.25 inch jacks in the back of the cab with earplugs

Pretty much, the only things I would still like to try are:

* Fender Roscoe Beck V bass guitar (into a good outboard pre -- John East, Fodera, or Sadowsky)
* Telefunken & Mullard preamp tubes
* Crown MA2402 power amp (or a Lab.Gruppen fP series amp)
* Millennia TD-1 preamp/DI

So, I'm not totally GAS-free, but I am VERY happy with my current tone (I think it has come a long way).

Hello Larry... the Rob Allen sounds AMAZING using the Focus and the 1210. Quite frankly, I like my other heads (the WW and the TF550 better for my 'normal' EB's... especially given the modern sound I like... so somewhat personal preference). But man, does that Focus warm up the Rob Allen... really makes it totally woody sounding and, if you don't listen that closely and critically, it really cops a DB vibe. I would think in anyplace other than a perfect listening room, for live performance 90%+ of listeners would be fooled into thinking it's an upright.

I attribute this more to the Focus than the Schroeder... since the Focus makes that Rob Allen sound great through any cab I use.... but the lower mid presence of the 1210 is a perfect fit.

How's that for a long complicated answer to a simple question :D

How is volume with 1210 compared to SVT410HLF? Which amp you're using? How is bottom end with 1210, does it go as low as 410HLF? Could you please describe more of tonal differences of those cabs? Anyone else switched from 410hlf to 1210 and what are your opinions of those two cabs? Anyone using V4BH with 1210?

Most of those are subjective questions so don't bet the farm on the account of me.

First, volume, both get ridiculously loud with my PV900 and RBI setup. Both could drown out a drummer.

The lowest I've played through the Schroeder would be Csharp/Dflat. It handled it fine, but of course so did the SVT410HLF.

The deciding factor was weight/size. The Ampeg weighs 110 lbs and sounds great, the Schroeder was 47 lbs and sounds as good and gets just as loud. If I had the coin, I'd keep both.

The rare "backside view" of my 310212. I figured that this shot might be of interest to some people. I've only had one band practice with my new Schroeder, but I'll say this right off...it's smaller (32" high), lighter (about 100lbs.) and is just as loud, if not louder, than my Ampeg 8x10. Plus the horn is really smooth! I play in a metal band and a punk band and we play LOUD, so you know where I'm coming from. I used my G&L L-2500 5 string last night and there was no problems with hearing the B string. I'll do a full on review when I have more time with my new baby. It fits in the back of my Buick!!! :D

I was playing at practice one night and just happened to notice how much air was being pushed through the two 0.25" jacks.

Thought it might 'tighten up' the sound a little to plug them up, so I gave it a whirl.

[I know, I'm just very anal...] :rolleyes:

well... I was lucky enough to pick up a used mini 12. Now I've got a wicked looking little cabinet stack..

I've only used the mini 12 for about a 3 minute trial..but it seems it will be a great addition. Combined with the 1210... I'm not sure I really have a need for the 21012 anymore???

Anyway.. just thought I'd share an updated pic of the Schroeder Tower.
