Got to rock out last night at one of the best venues in our area (well, most likely the best). With my 1210 and rack(dbx comp. Bmax run through the poweramp section of my 3500)

man....thats good stuff. Had the preamp set at 12oclock and my 3500 at around 10oclock and it was just leveling the place.

I felt bad for the guys who had to follow us...that fat juicy tone coming out from my rig was just flattening everything

I thought I'd chime in here and say how amazed I am at my new 1210. It has the Selenium tweeter option. I'm just in awe at how much sound this small cabinet is capable of putting out. Last night, I took it to an audition with a hard rock/metal band that has two loud guitarists, one with a Mesa head/Marshall 4x12 rig and the other running a 600w Carvin power amp into two 4x12s. The little 1210 was loud, in charge, and audible to everyone in the room. I'm putting 1800 watts through mine and I seriously can't see myself needing any more volume than what I have here. I have yet to see the clip indicators engage, either. Light, low, and loud... someone has finally pulled it off, and for once, the hype is all true.

I got to put my 1212 to work again last night and it just killed. I used to have to roll off my low end to get some volume without clipping, with the 1212 the lows are handled with no problem and volume is no issue. The guitarist walked in and said "oh what a cute little rig you have now" and then I proceed to blow his half stack away all night long.... :bassist:

I'm still using my SVT-4 head to power it, but I'm thinking about an upgrade in power since the cab is taking every watt in stride without flinching.

If you're bridging an SVT-4 and you like the tone, I'd think that would be plenty of power.

Of course, if you're looking for a diffenent tone, then I understand.

Hey Masher :bassist: ,I 've long wanted to ask someone who owned Schroeder and Avatar to compare and contrast the cabs....could you talk about the differences you hear in your different cabs...I had once considered a Neo Avatar 4x10 with a Schroeder 1212...to go with a Thunderfunk 550 or Yorkville XS800H or Eden WT 800...Peace...DAcat. :cool:

I have come nowhere close to clipping ( same setup) when in mono mode. Forgive me for asking if you already know, but what are you using to connect the head to the cab? Speakon or 1/4 speaker cable? And if speakon, did you rewire it to match the head for mono mode?

The Avatar cabs lacked the low end that the Schroeder has in spades. The Avatars were pretty weak sounding in comparison. If anyone asks you...is it worth the extra money for a high end cabinet....hell yes. It's like comparing a Chevy to a Cadillac. I know a lot of people can't afford the price tags, but I'm glad I went those 2 weeks with no groceries!
I was pretty dissapointed in the Avatars. People were talking them up like they were the best thing out there. I got my 4x10 Delta and 2x10 Delta and used them at a show once....that's all it took for me to hate em. I was used to an Ampeg 8x10 and was trying to get a lighter rig. That wasn't the way to go. If you have any specific questions feel free to ask me! I've used the Schroeder only at practice so far, but it already is outshining my Ampeg...it's actually sitting right in front of the "fridge" cab...mocking it!

Thanks Masher-as an owner of 2 Acoustic 360 "Refrigrators" since 1970, I have finally decided to let my last mint Acoustic cabinet go and replace it with a itty bitty Schroeder 1212, just based on following this long thread-unless someone can talk me out of it in the next week. Has anyone out there tried a 1212 or 1210 with a YorkvilleXS800H head?....Peace....DAcat :cool:

having owned an Acoustic 360, I was one of the first on my block to have one here in Cleveland, many many many moons and woofing tones ago. I have to assume, tell us if this is not case, that you were not? using the 360's as your gigging speaker cabs of choice (+preamp head), or were you? If you were you may want to consider getting a 1212 and 1210 as your "transition" equipment with your yorkville 800 (do you already have one by the way?). I'm sure there's plenty of power and the tone I've heard from the newer Yorkville equipment in combo forms actually sounded pretty good to me in spite of not having my favorite 31 band connected to the amp. The other thing is that your Acoustic focus is to project bottom out to the masses, but your stage volume seems, as I recall, to always be too low. There's also very little punch and zero highs, so you're gonna have to get used to an entirely different sound and maybe approach in how you set you tone and volume. The idea of two cabinets may be overkill but they're at least fairly portable. Maybe get the 1212, see how it works first, and if you absolutely need/want more stage volume which, once you're more used to the Schroeder sound my guess is you won't, you can always get another one or a 1210 or a mini 12 to add to the mix.

Good luck on this transition, again assuming you are still using the 360 as a gigging rig.

hmmm....I've been using the same speakon(s) I've had for years. When I bought my svt-4 and svt pro-410hlf cab, the store recommended the speakon, I grabbed 2 then and am still using both. I have no idea if they're wired for mono, I guess I've always assumed that it was correct since they work in mono and/or stereo. I better check that out. What is the correct configuration on the Speakon?

There should be a user manual for your svt-4 that would give that kind of info.

If you don't have a user guide, you can go to the Ampeg website and click on the links that get you to the SVT-4 page; on there is a link for viewing the front and back of the unit: that pulls up a PDF doc that describes the Speakon connector and wiring to use.

Hey Larry Kaye-thanks...Yes I was the 1st on the block and in the state to have the Acoustic 360/361,let alone 2 of them....they were my main rig from Dec. 70 to August 73 when our band of 7 years broke up-I usually only had to use one,or if I used both I used them at quite low volume.You're right-the 360/361 was hard to hear onstage or else you'd be too loud out 30 feet in front...so I used to use a couple moniter cabswith 2x12s hooked thru each amp as an ext. speaker pointing across stage so I could hear myself better. Are you saying that the Schoeders allow you to hear yourself much better and with better volume onstage as well as allowing your bandmates to hear you. I always liked cabs on both sides of the drums so I could be heard better-is that less neccessary with the Schroeders? No-I don't have the Yorkville XS800H yet-its one of the amps I've been thinking of for powering the Schroeder cabs...the Thunderfunk 550 has also been high on my list of amps...I'll have to decide soon. My Acoustic has been in storage since 73 and is pristine,but sadly I'm going to part with it,but I've decided to go lighter...seems like if I go with Schroeder,I'll have something like a small Acoustic anyway the way I've heard it cuts thru the mix but with more punch on stage...Peace...DAcat. :cool:

I put my 410 on one side of the drummer (It used to always be on his right, lately i'm on his left) and I can hear myself across all sides of the stage. With a stage about 15-20m across, I can hear myself easily at either end with the amp roughly in the middle.
