quote Mitch
"Yep, done it with EQ and also the filtering on the QSC to tighten up cabs. But it's tough when I'm tuned to down to B flat, I need to turn off the filter. So far the Schroeder has laughed at extreme EQ settings that would choke the life out of any other cabinet I've tried. But that was at low volume with gobs of headroom... I'll see what happens when I crank it."

Mitch, I play 5 a lot. I run the 30hz filters on. The fundamental of the b string may be that low, but most of the attendant harmonics that compose the overall note as a whole are not. I find the the low notes improve for me with the filter on, YMMV.
I fronting the QSC with an Eden Navigator, (typically set very near flat except for "room adjustments") and a Reverend or G&L 5 string.
I run the horn at 75% playing DB, and about 30-40% with elec, depending on room and stage...

I just spoke with Jorg again today. I am looking to get a case made for both my 1212 and my Mini-12. He is really swamped though. I hope that it does not beat him down or wear him out. There are a whole bunch of fans of his work and it would be a shame if it no longer became his work, if you understand my meaning. I have a great respect for Jorg and his work. He has made a product worthy of many peoples respect. What a rare thing we have stumbled upon at such a "early" stage of this. We all can still talk to Jorg and we all still get out Hand Made Cabinets. I think that a HUGE THANK YOU is in order to JORGE and all the work he does. It is not at all easy to find any company like that. :hyper:

Metal Mitch. I use distortion through my 410 in my band and it sounds supreme. My V8's distortion is naturally bright on the second gain stage (VERY bright), yet I can still use it with the tweeter past 12 o'clock and treble up on my bass (flat on amp) and it fits so well in the band, YMMV of course.

Hey popin, that just sounds sick. I really don't like the sound of distortion thru tweets but I may bring up it up in the room once the triple rec/marshall/line 6/laney etc start crankin away.

Yes, I'm aware of the fundamental vs harmonic thing. I never really gave a flying frak about hearing the fundamental - I just hate losing volume when I hit a low note. You know, it's bad enough dealing with cabs that lose SPL down low, why should I set my amp to do the same thing?

I've tried it both ways, and use the filter when I'm playing tuned to D. But B flat is actually lower than 30Hz and I can hear the loss of SPL with the filter on. First time I turned off the filter through the Schroeder, it was like taking a blanket off the speaker. The bottom end really opened up and it didn't sound small anymore. Now that I have my EQ straightened out I'll try it again, and try it both ways with the ensemble sound as well.

I'm kinda worried about this as well. I mean I want (almost!) everyone to get to experience Jorg's awesome work, but the kind of desire and true awesomeness that goes into each individual cab I'm afraid won't be able to keep up forever. Let's hope, however. I still haven't satisfied my cab fix yet! :( Can't afford it all... And I'm sure if/when these go off the market in years to come, finding one used is going to be pretty damn hard to do.

I only use regular BEADG tuning and I don't like the PLX sound with the 30Hz filter on -- to me, it mucks up the whole spectrum of my bass guitar's sound.

I know I have a Benavente at the shop (7 string and No Jorg you can't have it) with a Low F# and the 1212 and 1210 individually will take the F# and kick it right back in your face fat as ever..... now I will agree that some of the deffenition has to do with MY Custom 165 low F# string, but I have played through a lot of cabinets in my day and the Schroeder Cut and fill out notes like none other!

I use Crest and Lab Gruppen power amps only, so I won't be any help with the QSC.

Also Jorg is working to keep everything in his back yard no matter the size of Schroeder Cabinets..... and I mean in his backyard  This man is building like a mad man, both cabinets and a shop. So I wouldn't fear Jorg letting go of anything and that German won't ever get beat down ;) .

Well I ordered a 21012 from Mr. Barrett last week, solely based on the recommendations in this forum.

I play in a blues band, and a 70's hard rock/metal band. The former has a gig Nov 2, so I'm hoping I'll have the Schroeder by then. That gig is in a tiny little biker bar, about the size of a large living room that is filled-up if there are only 10-20 in the audience. I have an SVT-Pro3 head, and in that small place I hope I can play at a lower volume than I usually do there, due to the improved clarity and frequence response of the 21012 over other cabs... or will that be overkill? (Not that I have much choice.)

Not with that SVT-III Pro. It'll sound good, until you drive it 75% plus, then it's gonna run out of headroom and start fart out a little bit (at least it did with my 1210!). But having a larger cabinet at that small a venue is really going to carry so you should be good to go!!

Who uses their Schroeder with distortion?

My Tweeter has of late become very noisey and hissy. I run distortion through the cab with the tweeter around 12 o'clock. I'm not sure if that'd damage it, but yeah.

If I needa replace it, is the selenium any harsher (not that the titanium is harsh at all) than the titanium tweeter?

Well I got an E-Mail from Jorg reassuring me that this would not happen. It is great to know that a manufacturer of any size is looking out for his customers. It's funny, though, Jorg does not make you feel like a customer, but more like a friend. It is pretty unique.

Distortion and tweeters do not mix! You should probably turn you tweeter pretty much off. It won't hurt it, but it sure won't sound good. The Selenium is a more aggressive tweeter and will actually make the 'problem' worse.

Yessir, this is true, and very much appreciated by me.

Got a PM yesterday confirming this as well.

Can't tell you how much it means to feel comforted in such!

I have been talking to Jorg via email about using his stuff (I currently have a deal with Eden) and I get the feeling from his emails that he is killing himself BUT that he is a trooper. I will probably go to his place in the next few weeks.

Anyone know if he drinks coffee? LOL I'll bring him a gallon or 12! Maybe a couple cases of Red Bull?

Any former Eden Cab users that have switched to Jorg's cabs? Would be interested in your thoughts about how they compare.

I'm thinking of getting a schroeder cab and I'm wondering which of the these two cabs would be best suited for me.

My band plays a bit of everything, blues/hendrix stuff, to A perfect Circle, Tool, Metallica and Red Hot CHili Peppers

I also play in Jazz bands and may run a double bass through the cab at some stage.

I usually like a fairly bassy tone when I'm playing but I'm not sure which of the cabs (1212 or 1210) would sound best. Another option I'm considering is getting a 8 ohm 1210 and then when i have more money adding a mini12 to it.

ps. the 1210 is also $200 cheaper here which also makes a bit of a difference.

Unless Jorg has changed his specs, you can only get a 4ohm 1210. The 1212 comes in both 4 & 8 ohm versions. As a 1212 player, I don't think it lacks any punch or cut...and has a bit of extra booty.

Blizzard;
I cover much of your ground. I play primarily double bass working jazz, blues and R&B type stuff. I also play 4/5 string electric in several "cheap party trash bands" ranging from beatles to thoroughgood, doors, the band, etc...whatever the dance floor likes at the time.
I'm playing a Thunderfunk TFB420 thru a 1210, and find that it covers all this very, very well...I don't think you're going to suffer any lack of full round low end with the 1210, and it has a little more direct punch than the 1212...and it's what Jorg specifically recommended to me for this application.
Call him. Talk to him about your job, tools, needs. He has yet to steer me wrong, and I have several of his fine products.

I'd been thinking the 21012 was more J-friendly than P-friendly. Well tonight I finally got around to trying it with a real P-bass instead of a P/J, and hoo boy what a difference. My P-bass has never sounded better.

If I had to compare, it feels a lot like playing thru a 210 + 115 stack. But this is so much better tonewise and with matching drivers in the same box.

Earlier I posted about the 10s being bright and I still think that's true. But they work well for a P with flats and alnico pickup. I even used the tweeter, hahah! It's all there, clarity, punch, definition, great high mids and deep lows, and most importantly wood. I'm blown away.

Mitch,

Whachya driven that hooboy with? Just when I thought I would start with a 1210, and now you got me all lathered up for the 21012! LOL! :hyper:

And that wood you speak of, yours or your basses!
