Schroeder Cabinets ... smart design = very compact ! (regular and lights)

If that's the case I would look into multiple smaller boxes rather than one large.

If I had wanted or needed that much sound, I would have opted to save a little more and get an 8x10. But I have absolutely no desire to lug one of those around.

Jorg is producing cabinets with few speakers which are comparable to larger cabinets with more speakers.

Many owners will vouche for that.

I dont know of any current technology used in speaker cabinets that is going to meet what you're looking for.

You may have to consider coming to a compromise on what is best for your situation

If you guys are so concerned with weight why not get a nice DI box and spend your cab money on in-ear wireless units.
Or maybe try out another planet with less gravity....that'd do th e trick too.
No one's ripping on Jorg or his product here as most everyone posting here is already more than pleased with both him and his speakers but it's a bit flippant to so off-handedly dismiss peoples concern for a spec that is inaccurately listed, especially when it's one that determines their ability to carry the piece in and out of the gig.

You may not check specs or care whether they're the same as listed and I'm sure everyone knows that just like buying a car and knowing that the mpg figures have some wishful thinking involved, but still you can't discount the fact that it would be nice to have the specs be close, say for example within ±5%.

The variation in weight would be from the differences that different batches of plywood would naturally have.
Well possibly. But how come the batches of plywood have never in the history of the known universe got lighter? :D

Ok I'm exagerating but does anyone know of a cab that is lighter than the spec?

I drag around an svt-cl coz I like the sound so I'm not overly sensitive about weight (just don't call me fat tho ok?) I just don't see why customers should have to swallow bs about a product. Just because a product may have other redeeming features doesn't make the bs taste any better! I really don't go for the idea that it's ok to excuse codswallop from one party coz you like them but kick the custard out of those who are not in favour. Say no to bs everywhere!

Couldn't have said it better myself. It kinda makes you wonder if the other specs are as far off as the weight. :hiding:

Speaking of handles... The handles on my 410 were a bit of a letdown (reminds me that i've got to e-mail Jorg).

The 410 is a pretty heavy cab (I prefer to not carry it on my own because of back problems) but when I carry it with too people especially, the top of the plastic corner on the handle digs into the wrist quite painfully at times.
Whilst I don't mind THAT much, literally everyone else who has helped me haul it has complained that the handles hurt and it could probably be better designed..

But....how many 2 12 or 210 cabinets sound like Jorg's. Look at the weight of most 212's.....even the Epi is listed in the high 50's and let's say it is in the high 50's. So, let's say your Schro 212 is also. What's the advantage you say? OK how about it's streetpriced close to $250-400 less? How about it's a much smaller footprint at 23x16x16? You have to decide whether you like the sound of one over the other.

Let's look at the 1210....what'da we compare it to? At even mid 50's poundage, it's still comparable to the most of the average weight 210's. It's priced competitively, but I will bet you guys dimes to donuts that I can cover more gigs more gigs with my 1210 than most any other 210 cabinet can. It's definitely louder and has more focus AND projection than the Epi 310 I owned previously, has a sweeter top end than both the SWR's and Edens I've owned (Goliath JrIII's and XLT) and weighs in the same neighborhood, but is major league louder than either and not scooped out sound wise.

Regarding accurate disclosure of information however, I do agree with the commentary though....perhaps the weigh(pardon the pun) to do this is for every cabinet to be weighed before packing and to keep a running average on the website and say "average weight between x and y pounds" with the famous * next to it saying weight may vary due to plywood and/or component weight variances.

Again (and again) these cabinets at the advertised and "real world" weight are not being marketed as the world's lightest cabinets. They are being toted as being a one cabinet solution that's louder and more cut through on stage than other cabinets traditionally much larger (and I guess one could say "heavier").

If the Schroeder tone and efficiency could be achieved with a lighter set of speakers, I for one wouldn't have any difficulty or second thoughts about switching to those speakers. Then one could add the hyped up statement "one of the lightest, loudest, yet smallest cabinets around?" or something else.

I own a 1210 and a 410....the 410 is HEAVY, but with the exception of the Epi UL410 and maybe an LDS NEO 410? whether your's comes outta the shop at 78 or 85 pounds, is it that much more or less than what else is available with traditional speakers? It's still smaller a cabinet, it's still louder and cleaner than a major group of other 410's, 610's and some 8 10's,

Editorial over for now.

Played the 410 together with the Aguilar DB 750 together for the first time last night. It was spectacular, I am really happy.

BTW on the weight issue, I kind of agree the performance of the cab should have some relationship to the weight. I returned a Berg. HT 322 and a Mesa Boogie Pulse 600 because that combo could not keep up in a small club. That Berg cabinet weighs and costs more than the Schroeder 410 or the 21012, never mind the size issue. Tone-wise you have to make your own judgement.

Just bought my second Schro... a 1212 with Selenium tweeter. I use my 1210 on small and medium sized gigs (with either a TF550 or WW Ultra), and realized it's pretty close to being loud enough for even my largest gigs. After discussing with Jorg, I feel the 1212 will have just enough extra low end and volume for it to be used for all the gigs I do.

Of course, when I'm playing in town or somewhere close and driving myself to the gig, it's still the Epi410UL all the way. However, the 1212 will replace the Epi310UL that I keep in another city that I fly into regularly for gigs. The Epi310UL sounds great, but just doesn't have the chest thumping thing that the 410UL and Schroeder's have. Since I need a smaller cab to fit in rental cars, etc. when I'm 'on the road'... I think the 1212 is going to be 'just the ticket' :bassist:

I'm curious what you think of the selenium tweeter. I have a 21012 with the titanium, and I'm happy, but I too need to replace a speaker in another city, and I was thinking about the same combo. However, I guess you don't have a Schro with a titanium tweeter with which to compare it?

I have not heard the original tweeter, so you are correct, I don't have a direct comparison. Most players who have posted about Jorg's cabs comment how great the stock titanium sounds... smooth and natural. My guess is, if you aren't a 'new round wound' slapper, I would stick with the standard tweet. However, I just love the aggressive sizzle you can get out of the selenium... really allows the high end to cut through with an 'old school' single coil funk sound ala Marcus Miller for fingerstyle and slap.

I am not a big slapper, yet. But I like it when the highs punch through with a nice bark. I have the SS rounds on my lakland P-bass and they sound awesome through my 21012 and I did not like them thorugh my original rig.

So I find the Selenium tweeter somewhat intriguing.

I'd love to hear your system.

I like you, went from an HT322 to the Schroe 410, but my decision wasn't based on lack of volume as I have 1600W to abuse... :bassist:
