Is Jorg altering the cabinet design in the the neo cabs - using lighter woods and such - or is it just the speakers that are changing?

He's been pretty picky about the stiffness and response of some of the light weight substitutes. I think he has found something he likes very much, but he is still using the current cabinets with Neo's for testing before he but the whole package is together. This way he knows in the end he has the best product available he can offer with no question.

He is not ending the Schroeder's with cast frames either, they will still be offered!

Well cast frames may already be a thing of the past if my 1212 is anything to go by. It has pressed steel frame drivers. I was quite taken aback by this when I took delivery about three weeks ago. To Jorg's credit he was very prompt in offering me a replacement set of cast frame drivers. He said that he had swapped to pressed steel drivers a little while ago and had forgotten to update his web site. I'm suprised to see he still hasn't fixed it, especially in light of his updates to the weight specification posted there. I'm afraid the issue with incorrect weights and now incorrect driver specifications has dented my confidence in Jorg's operation somewhat.

so I just had to share....

on one of my gigs this past weekend....the opening band's bass rig was a beast...Mesa 400+ and Aguilar 4x12 cab. The tone out front was pretty muddy, no clarity or punch. Plus it took 2 of them to move that sucker.

I whipped out my "cute little" 1212 and the sound man had to tell me to turn down, that he had no bass in the house mix because the cab was so loud and clear onstage. Needless to say he was impressed by the tone and dispersion of the 1212. And onstage, it was perfect...not overbearing but deep and punchy.

Too bad the opener didn't stick around to hear it. Kids.

He was probably worn out after lugging that all around ;)

This is (kind of) a thread derail... but I found a new use for my mini12.

I've recently had to re-visit playing the fiddle, as well as bass. I've been playing a lot of electric fiddle lately, and the mini12 is SUPERB for this. I'm using an ME-50 to add some reverb, and distortion... running it into a Focus SA, then into the Mini 12... WOW.. it sounds amazing.

I know this is a bass forum... and I use my 1212, and 1210 stacked for bass. But a lot of us bassists are multi-instrumental..... and I'm loving my mini12 with the eFiddle.

I just had to add this about my Schroeder 410 cab :D ...I've now had it about 4 wks...Its transformed the way my band sounds...powerful,driving,with the bass defined, in your face :) and upfront like on the best recordings. I've now tried it :bassist: with about 6 different heads  ...Eden WTB800,GK 1000RBII,Yorkville XS800H(the one I finally got ) and also tried it out with a variety of other heads available to me,such as an SWR 350, an SWR 160 and I just recently got a Hartke 3500 to serve as my home practice amp to power my Avatar 210 cab...and after trying all these amps through the Schroeder, all the heads sound better than I have ever heard them before...I was even having trouble finding an acceptable tone with my Hartke-Avatar setup, but as soon as I hooked up the Schroeder to the Hartke-the tone was lusciously rich and full, and twice as loud ...I'm just beginning to realize how wonderful ;) these Schroder cabs really are...Thanks Jorg... :D

I've done two gigs with my 410, and I've never gotten so many compliments on my tone. This past Saturday, the soundman put a mic on the cab, I wasn't in the P-A at all, and the guys from the band that played before us said the bass sounded incredible out front. This cabinet rules.

Alright then! Just two days away from getting my new speakers - a 1010 and a 1210!!!

I'll run the stack with my Alembic F-1X preamp/parametric EQ/Stewart 2.1 power amp. I'm coming from the Acme camp, so thoughts, ideas and recommendations on how things will be "different" would be greatly appreciated!

Looking forward to everyone's thoughts.

1. it ain't gonna sound like an Acme. The acme's are quieter, more even response, not as sensitive/efficient.

2. The Schroe's will have more low mids and are easier to hear near the cabinet and on stage. They're a lot louder at the same volume setting/ohmage than the Acme's. You'll have to get used to the sound being different, louder, and you'll likely be wondering how these cabinets work so weel.

Personally I think your cabinet choice is interesting and it gives you options on the smaller gig to run 2 10's or 2 121's and then combine them on anything a little large to huge.

The biggest difference is whether you like the tone of the Schroeders better than or at least equal to knowing they're more different than one's good and one's bad. The Acme's are very inefficient and you should immediately notice you're not turning up your poweramps anywhere near what you had to with acme's to get similar volume. Your two cabs should weigh in a little less or similar than a single acme 410 and 2 210's should be a bit heavier than the Schroeders.

good luck to you....let us know how they work out.

I've got my gig coming up this weekend and I'm still kinda skeptical about only bringing the 1210. I guess it's probably because I haven't had enough gig time with it to realize it's potential. I think I'm just gonna go ahead and take it since I will have a large PA available to DI into.

This gig is much larger than almost any other ones we do so this should put it to the test. I will report back after Fri. night with my results. :)

what are you pushing your 1210 with again? What's the room's acoustics like....nice, boomy, loud but acceptable....what are you competing against as far as stage volume, how many people in the band and instrumentation, how many people do you expect at the club, how big is the room?

I've used my 1210 in a ton of different venues from nice and tight to crapola large and echoey indoors to a couple outdoor festivals. I'm using a 600 watt solid state amp @ 4 ohms. There's only been a couple places where my 1210 was being overtaxed so to speak....both involved VERY large rooms, one that was the pit of evil acoustically, high ceilings with no acoustic tile, concrete walls with no wall acoustics, and a solid stone type floor with no carpeting. The problem there was just the band put my microphone about 12 feet in front and about 3 feet to the left of my amp. I could hear it fine but it's tone IN THAT SPOT was not as good as it was close to the amp. I was totally blowing away our keyboard player who was only about 5 feet away. He told me he's never heard a cabinet so loud and clean for bass EVER, and in the room, with the PA support, it sounded fine. It was just not what I was used to 12 feet away. We normally never have the luxury of having that much setup room!!!

The other place was an absolutely dry hotel main ballroom that had a corporate party...these guys were extremely loud talkers...the room had absolutely dead acoustics...again, I sounded fine out in the room with PA support, and I was camped out about 3 feet from the 1210. As it turned out, I was running way to much bass boost and was right on the brink of farting out the cab. Once I turned the bottom boost on my head and guitar down to a little over flat, turned down my gain and upped my master volume, the cab sounded perfect and was easily heard on stage and on the dancefloor with the PA taking the sound into the other areas of the room.

Please tell us the answers to the above questions and depending on what situation set up and acoustically you find yourself in, I and others here may be able to give you some suggestions to increase the odds of your 1210 covering the gig successfully without a lotta fuss or anxiety!!!

Good luck and let us know.

The bar size wise is basically like a double wide mobile home trailer, it's really long but not real wide. On one end is the stage with a large dance floor and a bunch of tables and chairs. Capacity wise I would say at it's max it will probably hold around 300 people, but I'm not a good judge on capacity. There will probably be around 200 people there max. The stage is raised about 2 or 3 feet and it has a carpet floor while the rest of the area in front of the stage is wood floor.

The last time we played there I used my Eden 410 cabinet with just a little ran through the PA and it sounded fine, wasn't really boomy or anything. This time I am using my RBI with a QSC 850 bridged, so it will be running at 850 watts @ 4 ohms. I play in a 4 piece band, two guitarist, drummer, and me......I don't think I will have any problem competing with any of them.

The main thing I"m worried about is if it will be loud enough for the size room we are playing.
Thanks!!!!

I'm going thru an Alembic F1X and one side of a PLX3002. I'm thinking of either a 410 or a 21012. Has anybody A/B'd these
2 cabs? Opinions??

Depends on what type of sound you are seeking...

I would think the F-1X + 410 would give a closer to balanced sound -- I would think these would sound exceptional together (with the right tone settings).

If you into Sub-Dub &/or Reggae, the 21012 would definitely float your boat with the F-1X (or Read Purity or Kern or Ampeg SVP-Pro).
