Why not consider a different pair of maybe Neo replacement speakers for the SWR and try to find a pair that matches as close to the same specs your OEM swr's do? I will be able to tell you very well by the end of next week how a single Schroeder 410 sounds vs 2 SWR Goliath juniors (one's with the vent in front). I've arranged a demo on a gig for one of my best bass buddies.

There's plenty of people out there who love the SWR line of stuff. I also used to own 2 SWR 210's and at the time felt it was the best stuff available...less bottom clogging BS like the Eden xlt210 less expensive. lighter 44 pounds each I believe, but I did notice they didn't replicate the full bass spectrum tonewise. My tone was "mushy" and not as punchy and clear as I wanted (for whatever reason at the time...I think a lot of it had to do with these cabs had been the standard along with the 410 for so long and I never owned them until the III"s came out, so I felt deprived but had the money to buy other cabs to try...not quite to Tom B's herd, but 2 or 3 different brands all with the idea of keeping the one I loved/liked the best and get rid of the rest.)

There's always gonna be an argument/disagreement to what is and what isn't a mid bump. etc. I feel that if you have a reasonable amount of command over your tone through an adjustable amp, bass, or added eq or whatever, the Schroeders tend to offer a lighter weight, competitive (not cheaper or cheap....competitive) priced cabinet that's very efficient, doesn't fall off the low end as fast as some, higher wattage capacity, and a decent variety of useable cabinet ranges. Whether I you or others likes the tone is subjective...but it's not all because of the Schroeder that the final tone is what it is by any means. Basses and heads have their "signature" tone too, same with the strings you use, let along one's playing technique, where you pick the strings, etc. etc. etc.

I think we need to keep this in mind more and more as the Megathread continues. Schroeder...lite and loud for its size. Low mids are not scooped out and get heard more than in most other cabinets....you may or may not like that, but I've had absolutely no complaints from ANYONE about their ability to hear and feel every note I play in some of absolutely worst to excellent acoustic surroundings.

Can anybody tell me why Jorg started using pressed steel frames in place of cast ? Got this little tibbit off the eminence web site

(pressed steel and die cast aluminum. While pressed steel is adequate for most applications, die cast aluminum baskets are superior cosmetically, structurally, and magnetically. Aluminum does not conduct the magnetic field out of the gap thereby making the motor strength higher and the stray magnetic field lower)

Dont wanna step on toes but in my mind I'm adding up cheaper pressed baskets raises prices on the cabs ? Can some one help me or set me straight.

This is what I was told from Jorg:

(The steel frame is more flexible and able to handle the heavy magnets a lot easier than the cast frame woofers. I had several of the latter that had a cracked frame.)

Which makes sence if the baskets are brittle

I've been hearing some good things about the Schroeder Cabinets and I'm considering a purchase, but I'm unsure of which cabinet. A 1210 or a 1212.
I play mostly Blues Based and Classic rock material and like a fat sound so I'm leaning towards the 1212, but the 1210 may have more punch.
I'll be powering with a GK 1001RBII. I know that the 1210 is a 4 ohm cabinet so I could only use 1 of them where the 1212 is available in 4 or 8 ohms. Any info about the performance of these 2 cabinets would be appreciated

I pair my Schroeder 410R with PLX1602/F-1X and am very pleased with the sound, but it's really much more cabinet than I now need. Being a geezer who plays out just a few times a year now, I'm considering switching to the 1212R (1000w) or 1212L (800w). I'd buy a 4ohm cabinet. Would the PLX1602/F-1X be overkill for either 1212? Maybe I should sell the whole rig (Schroeder 410R with PLX1602/F-1X) and replace it with a smaller setup. I was thinking SM900 with a Schroeder 1212. Anyone?

Anyone A/B'd a 1212R to 410R?

How about a 1212L to 410R?

Is the 410 a LOT louder than a 1212?

Anyone A/B'd an PLX1602/F-1X rig VS. SWR SM900?

Would I regret selling the 410 and/or the F-1X?

I was in the same situation that you were in. so I purchased both. :D But serioulsly, I use my 1212 more than I do the 1210. And I play every style of music there is. I would suggest the 1212 for you. Make it a point to talk to Jorg about your purchase. For blues the 1212 is a better match. For funk I will take my 1210.

And I'm going to re-post my earlier question.

Is there any likelihood of a choice of impedence on the 1210.

The 1212 comes either 4 or 8. Why can't the 1210?

I want to use both. It sounds to me like the 1210 is a good replacement for a 410, and the 1212 goes underneath it like a 115. But I can't do that with the amp I want to use.

I have a 1210 and really like the size and weight. It sounds great for the most part but with my Ric it seems like the mids are almost too strong. I can't put my finger on it but it just seems like an additional cab would round it out nicely. I have been running an Ampeg B2R through it and have a GBE600 on the way. Maybe that will be more compatible with the 1210. But I was wondering....of you guys that run the 1210 with a second cabinet, what are you using in addition to it and what does it add that you may have felt was missing?

I pair my 1210 with 1212, it is a compact, brutal combination.:D

This is what I'm scared of...

Anyone here playing these Schroeders with a fretless?

I think you should give Jorg a call.

The F-1X is a great preamp...you might regret parting with.
The 1210 will have tone closer to the 410 than the 1212.

My system is in my sig'; I really like the tone I get and don't think it is that bad of a haul -- in fact I wouldn't mind a heavier power amp if it gave me more low end authority.

When I need some juice for big rooms or outside I use a 1212 with one side of my Demeter/QSC 3002 for 900 watts, I used that combo at last nights gig, excellent! If I really need coverage, like Seansbrew, I use a 1210 & 1212 together...even more excellent!!
I also use my Thunderfunk 420 with the 1212 a lot, these cabs sound great no matter what the juice, it seems.

You mean like Eminence Deltalite 10's? Can that really be done? I thought the cab had to be tuned to the speakers and properly ported blah,blah... What is the nearest equivalent? Maybe that needs to be a new post...

Let us know how your Schoe 410 sounds vs 2x10 double stack.

Lo Freq,
Thanks for the sanity check. I should call Jorg; especially before I do anything stupid, like selling the F-1X, etc. These Lights are giving me gas. The thought of a 36lb. cab in equalling my 36lb. rack case (1602/F-1X) is sooooo tempting. I'd go for the 1212 because I prefer more bottom to more mids (compared to the 1210). Even with the 1212R my rig would be 20 lbs. lighter.

Jerry,
It sounds like your 1212R really rocks, huh? Enough stage volume? Do you go through the mains?

Guys,
Your opinion? How close would the 1212 be in volume to most quality 410s? And how close to the Schroeder 410?

Thanks,
Dave

Great cab! If I'm going through the mains I use the Thunderfunk, if I need the juice I usually use either the DemeterQSC3002 or my Aggie659/QSC2402. Most of the time either just the 1212 0r 1210 is plenty for most stages/gigs here. A 21012L with selenium horn might be up my ally for bigger gigs in the future.
