Talkin' to Jorg 'bout a couple lights, a 1212 & a 410.

Have a 400+ that I'd plan to push them with. I know this is a silly question, but the Mesa would be able to coax some pretty strong sounds out of the Schroeders, wouldn't it?

Or does a 1212 & 410 sound like overkill (not that there's anything wrong with that)?

Oh, has anyone ever spoken to Jorg about anything other than carpet as the covering? Tolex, truck bed, spray-on, tough-skin stuff, whatever?

Guys
im sure this was talked about earlier in the thread but i cant seem to find the conclusion.
what are the cons of putting a 1210 on its side?
did my first gig with mine at the weekend and i put it so the 12" was closest to the floor. sounded ok (not as toppy as i thought it would sound) but couldnt get to hear it from out front so i dont know what was going on. i had the tweeter up halfway so as not to sound to bright but would like to know if im loosing anything out front
Thanks

The carpet is what we get. Outsourceing for spray stuff can be a hassle, I imagine, especially since Jorg is a small operation. I'm considering getting mine Line-X'ed locally. Navy Blue with a chrome grill??

It's *supposed* to lay on it's side, that's why the rubber feet are on that way;)

You're losing about 1/3 the bottom end that way. I know it's tough for many of us who've had larger cabinets, even a 410 where there's a speaker cabinet close to if not higher than your waist, to believe you can hear a cabinet that only 16 inches + rubber feet off the ground.

You can, you will. The only time I've found the 1210 advantageous to put on it's unnatural position of the 12 being on the floor and the 10 being turned up towards you is when the room and stage area are just combatively echoey and loud. Otherwise, leave the feet on the floor, got horizontal, not vertical, turn up your tweeter a little more and take 'er from there.

I don't feel these cabinets are meant for stacking...yeah they're the same width and it's convenient, but if you need 2 mediums to get what you want tonewise and volumewise and you end up stacking 'em, I truly believe you should get one large cabinet instead, save your money, get a Light version, and you'll be fine!!!

The 1210 in my 10 months of experinece with it sounds much more like a one cabinet solution and how it's advertised sitting horizontal rather than vertical. If you're in a smaller room, maybe that won't make much difference or maybe it's a good idea to try the cab both ways and pick which one works better in that room?

My strong preference is horizontal everywhere and make EQ or other adjustments if necessary.

Thinking about switching from a 410 to a 1212. I realize the 410 pushes more air. How close would the 1212 be in volume to most 410s or to the Schroeder 410?

Your opinions please? Thanks

The 1212 is amazing for its size. However, in my case, when A/Bing with my Epi410UL, there's really no contest. The 1212 is just as loud (which is amazing given its size), but you do lose that 'big box' low end fullness. It's closer to a big cab in volume than any other single small cab I've ever played, but I would not replace my 410 with it for very large gigs IMO.

I'm actually going to replace my 1212 with a new 21012 Light.... it's just a little larger than the 1212, and actually weighs less.... and should totally match up with a typically high quality 410.

I'm actually going to replace my 1212 with a new 21012 Light...

How well does the 1212R handle a low B? I have a Modulus M92 that has thundering lows. I think my Modulus VJ and MM Fretless would be fine?

Hmmmm.....the 21012L does sound like a good option for me - just because of the 5-string bottom need.

However, I hear some are experiencing problems with the Lights - wiring, blown speakers, etc.??? On the Main Event Neo thread.

Please advise.

No problem with the 1212 regular handling the low B... you just can't get these cabs to fart out. However, it's a very punchy low B sound (which I like) versus a huge, open fundatmental low B boom. These smaller Schroeders will not provide huge low end rumble, but they do get very loud and sound great on stage and in the room, even under very loud conditions. Also, per my comments on another thread about the low end response of the Ag750.... I think Jorg's main rig is a 1212 with the Ag750... I have a feeling that would sound amazing... since the 750's low end is quite 'bloomy' and huge... I imagine the 1212 'tames' that low end a little, and the 750's massive power and huge bottom can open up that 1212.

I'm not too concerned about the Light issues that were mentioned on the master thread. It seemed to just be an isolated issue with the early 310212 Lights, and Jorg is amazing about fixing any issues you might have. Also, Jorg hasn't really shipped any production Lights as far as I can tell, so I'm sure he's stepping back and making sure everything is working OK.

I'm very excited about the 21012 Light... I think it's going to be an amazing piece of gear. I'm hoping the greater internal volume of that box allows the baffle mounted 12 to open up a little more below 50 hz or so, and that the front mounted 10's provide a little more mid punch than the 1212.

Even though my 410 schroeder standard speakers definitely have more low end booty than my 1210 and probably the 121too, that low end rumble openness people speak of doesn't always make for a better stage or room sound. A room that's boomy or echoey at all is likely not going to be enhanced by a lower fundametal. The thing that's nice about the Schroe's are they have much more booty and volume compared to most every other cabinet their size.

If you're concerned about how much bottom end you're gonna have, move up one step to a 410 or 21012. If you're strong or have strong roadies, get the regular speakered 410 or 21012 for 10 to 15% less than a light. The large cabinets may be JOrg's 2nd largest, but they are still amazingly small compared to other 410's or a Bergie 322. They certainly weigh less.

I wouldn't also be concerned about the wiring issue for 3 cabinets. I don't know for sure how many other cabs Jorg has sold over the past year or more, but the blown speaker talked about was IN ONE OF THE THREE CABINETS that were somehow miswired. No one else on this thread has said word one that I'm aware of regarding blowing speakers or miswired cabs.

People with issues, especially on new or "popular" equipment will tell it like it is positive and negative. Jorg may want to give us a figure as to what %age of his speakers had to be replaced or the actual number, but that is not really public information to reveal. Based on what's been written about, very few people have techie issues with the Schroeders and very few people have sound preferences that are incompatible with the Schroeder sound.

If you have any concerns about which cabinet to buy, call Jorg directly. He remains the best judge of such matters.

Based on what people were saying about the difference in sound from the neo speakers, I wonder if Jorg has tried a combo cab? I suspect that a 21012 with a heavy 12 and light 10s might sound pretty amazing and still cut a bunch of weight. Same for a 410 with neos facing forward.

Thanks for that explanation. that makes sense. i put it up so it look bigger but next gig i do (on Sat at the Tower of london no less) ill leave it laying flat. i doubt ill have trouble hearing myself im just worried about being to bright out front (no PA). i guess ill just have to adjust to suit.
must admit it was the first time i have really heard the low E so clearly.

I've used my 1212R horizontally and vertically, both sound great. I haven't noticed any real loss of low end from turning it upright. I did notice a more defined sound when the angled speaker facing upwards though.

Of course with my recent addition of a 1210R I'll be stacking them horizontally.

I plan on using the 1212R as a stand alone cab for smaller stages and adding the 1210R for larger gigs. The 1212R replaced my Ampeg PR-410hlf without breaking a sweat.

Very cool. You might want to try it the other way around also... I really like the mid punch of the 1210R... I actually like the sound better than the 1212. The 1210r is an awesome stand alone, and the 1212 would add all that bottom for larger gigs. Just an idea!

Has anyone A/B'd an Aguilar GS112 x2 to a Schro 1212?

We briefly did this at Vic's a couple weeks ago. From what I remember, we all liked the 1212 more... although we spent most of the time comparing two NL210's to the 1212. The volume put out by the single 1212 will be MUCH more than the two GS112's though.
