I'm surprised that no one mentioned the fact that Jorg's cabinet is being shown next to an empty Avatar B410.

I wonder were those Deltas went???? :eyebrow:

Has anyone with Acme B4 or Epifani T310 (or 212) experience tried these cabinets out?

Any one notice the inconsistencies in the Schroeder site?

If you click on the link for driver parameters, you get a description of stamped steel baskets, 10s with an Fs of 66 Hz, 12s with an Fs of 51 Hz. Then when you look at the cabinets, the speakers are described as having cast frames with system frequency response down to 35 oor 40 Hz (depending on model).

I know how they sound is what matters most, but something doesn't seem right...

Yep I noticed but ignored it. I always ignor the "Frequency range" spec unless they tell me exactly how many dB down they are at that frequency. If they're saying 40Hz to whatever, I want to know if it's -3dB or -2,659dB down at 40Hz. that's also why I'm waiting on the Sensitivity and F3 specs, but so far no joy...............

Ok, so you can all relax I’ll try and tell you what I know.

Understand that the site just went active a week ago and that there are a lot of specs and stuff stilling being posted and all these test run so that they can be perfectly accurate for everyone. Jorg is aware of all the details needed.

I’m glad everyone is excited and interested to hear the details.

As for the cabinet sitting next to the Schroeder, well it just looks like a generic cabinet to me, but then I guess that’s what an avatar is......

The Hz response from what an individual speaker spec gives verse the way a cabinet is tuned are totally different. Do some research on other cabinet makers and how tuning affects a cabinet in general. Look at the individual speaker specs of other cabinet builders and then compare them to the cabinet as a whole.... everything will be clear then.

I can look at specs all day long, but they don’t tell me how the speaker’s sound.

As for the comparison of other cabinets, well, I’ve had one bagend traded in and another one mentioned above for Schroeder’s. I’m not saying that ones better then the other, but for these guys that traded, it worked better for them.

Here’s Unofficial test for sensitivity. Again test are still being run on roll off, etc, so be patient please.

1010: 100db SPL

1210: 102db SPL

1212: 102db SPL

101010: 102db SPL

21012: 104db SPL

410: 102db SPL

Petebass is exactly right about the Freq range and the db. That a huge issue I have with people making statements about one cab over another when there is no idea where the db is. It’s like rating amps. Some companies are conservative and other’s push to the limit of blowing just to get the extra number.

Jon Burnet was over last week and he made a statement of “......... Who” after he hit the B string with the 21012 cabinet. And this is a company that specializes in lowend cabinets. Now Jon is not someone I know, actually it was the first time I’ve ever met him or he’s been over to the shop, but he was quite surprise with the cabinets.

Anyway, I hope I’ve answered a few more questions until actual test specs get posted and some other’s play the cabinets and can give their opinions on the cabs. Again like all cab’s, no one said they are the cab for everyone, but everyone that has played then in the shop has been blown away. Sorry they all aren’t on TB but I’ll try and push them to this thread to help out.

Thanks,

Jorg emailed me direct after noticing my TB thread "looking for a 4x10" in the classifieds.

He led me to his website and to this thread.
Not more than 8 hours ago, I had never heard of Schroeder cabinets. I must say I'm pretty impressed with all the testimonials. My search for a 4x10 has ended...I hope...for the last time.

Anyway, he kindly invited me to try out his cabs. He's about 40 miles away. I have to make time but I think it'll be worth the drive.

I'm currently playing a Fender MIA Jazz with Duncan Hot Stacks. I run an SVT Classic head through an Avatar 2x12 and sometimes along with an Eden 2x10XLT. But I don't really use the Eden anymore. I'm going to sell it.

The Avatar 2x12 is great and I'm happy with my tone but once the Eden is sold, I want to be able to push my SVT to really her it growl.

I'm primarily concerned because my band is begining to book the big shows in L.A. and I want to sound as good and loud as possible.

I think I need 10"s to get a more focused bite for the agressive, technical riffing that I do.

I'm going to keep the Avatar...it's a great cab!

*Would a Schroeder 4x10 paired with the 2x12 be overkill or just right? What do you think?

BTW, Speddling...I checked out your band's website...nice licks! Georgeous basses. I like "Laydown" and "Don't be Afraid". I didn't hear any of the other songs.

Here from you soon.

If I needed more then the 1210, I'd look at the 21012... but you'll be trying them all out, so pick what fits best with your tone!

Thanks, the band recordings are all pretty bad... they are really just for writing lines. We've got a lead player now that isn't on the recordings yet and hopefully we'll track down a drummer soon  "Laydown" is the newest recorded line (and my fav at this point)... I think "Kin" or "Fear" are the 2 people seem to dig most.

Generic is a pretty harsh term for an Avatar cabinet. I'd reserve that for those $189 brand new 4x10s on eBay with speakers of unknown origin.

I fully agree that the sound is what counts. I just found it ironic that in the wake of off-the-shelf Eminence driver speculation, a photo of a Schroeder cabinet appears next to (what I believe) to be an empty Avatar cabinet (the box construction, grille, grill spacer type and location, interior padding, lack of padding on the port shelf, apparent plywood construction (doesn't look like OSB), crossover/input design/location, black Foster tweeter all scream Avatar to me).

I'd love to play through a/some Schroeder(s). I'm looking at Acme B4s and Epifani T310s right now and want to experience as many different cabinets as I can. What's popular isn't necessarily what I prefer (I played through a bunch of Bergantinos last week and I just didn't care for them...I sure wanted to, but it didn't work out).

I look forward to reading more about other experiences with Schroeder speakers....

billy i play an epifani 2x10 but i dont know if i am of any help as the 3x10 and the 2x10 are totally different beasts. i did however play a nyc 3x10 next to the schroeder and it came the closest to the tone i like. the schroeder was still better. still trying to find time to get back over to brians with my rig to due a true a/b.

Please understand that the cabinet is very generic in design while Avatar might build theirs, but they look pretty much the same to me. Granted the speaker cage is different, but that’s easy to change. Notice the port at the bottom, horn, as well as other features and standard size. Speaker cage and corner protectors are easy to change out.
I didn’t mean anything negative by generic other then that the cab design and size is generic and for what Avatar’s target market is and price point, they do a great job with the product. But read higher up where I talk about what makes cabinets different.

Try not to be to critical until you have had a chance to try a cabinet and that goes for any brand. Its tuff to have an open mind when you try something after talking down about it and question ever aspect of it.

Sorry the Bergantino didn’t work out. Jim’s a wonderful guy and builds killer cab’s, but he will be the first to say not everyone will find their voice in them. Jorg will make the same statement, both offer a different sounding cabinet.

Here is the $160 cab you referred to as generic and the cabinet pictured you say is an Avatar. Keep in mind, I have no idea what the cab is. I haven’t asked Jorg, but I will if you would like.

edit;
heres the auction to the cab above

Even though I am very excited about this thread and the curiosity of my fellow bassists about my cabinets, I normally did not want to interfere in this thread trying to “market” my product. But since Luke asked me to say/write a few words I will try to do so. I started this project ~ 3 years ago because I was not really able to find my own sound. That was pretty frustrating after 37 years of playing bass. So, a lot of work, patience, heart and numerous proto types went into this project, and finally I was getting where I hoped to go. Due to the fact that I have my own band and we’re gigging on a regular basis I was able to test my proto types in a live environment, where it really counts; I wanted to be able to hear every note clear and defined and became very excited about the result. Now, it is not my intention to compete with any X,Y or Z cabinet, I furthermore do not believe that my product is better than any certain cabinet out there, that is NOT my intention. I was encouraged by fellow bassists who heard my cabs live to offer a product that might work for some who are still searching for their sound, that’s all. Please be critical and objective, that’s everybody’s right, but please don’t criticize something that you haven’t tried out or heard yet. I do not intend to conquer the bass world or to compete with anyone, I am offering an alternative on a small and limited production scale for fellow bassists who want to try out something new that might get them closer to their sound imagination. Besides my busy schedule I’ll gladly respond to any email sent to me personally in a timely manner

Thanks everyone

Sincerely,

Jorg

Jorg's already a TBer? How about that !

Thanks Jorg. Count me in the camp that'll wait for efficiency and rollof specs before thinking about buying, but until then based on the size and weight I remain very interested.

Good luck with these.

BTW - as starter of this thread, what kind of discount can I expect :D

Brian, I'm keeping an open mind. As an anal retentive engineer by day, seeing a partial set of specifications only raises more questions than it answers.

I truly want to play through Schroeder cabinets...hopefully I'll find a way to before too long.

Jorg, I wish you the best of luck...you're doing what I wanted to do for the past 25 years but never had the stones, or the attention span to try. :hyper:

I'd like to hear them as well. As my sig suggests, I believe your ears can tell you more in a 30 second audition than you can get from pages and pages of spec data.

But living in Australia, I fear that I'm not going to get the opportunity any time soon. All I've got to go by are these reviews and a little bit of speaker building knowledge, something I find very usefull if for no other reason than to sift through the lies and sales propaganda told by a majority of equipment manufacturers. That's probably why people like Billy and I get a bit snotty when stats are left out or not presented. So far Jorg seems above board and I'm glad that and effort is being made to get accurate specs released to the public.
