Schroeder Cabinets ... smart design = very compact ! (regular and lights)

Well Brian B. hooked me up with a local bass player who was trying out a Schroeder 410 that was on its way from Jorg to Brian (thank you, Brian).

I took my rig (Dem 201S/PLX1602) and bass (SR5) with me and also played through a ThunderFunk the guy was checking out and played his 55-94 Lakland bass some. It was kind of late when I got over there, so we didn't get to really crank it up to any extreme volume (we did shake the walls a little), but I could tell that it seems at least somewhat more efficient than the HT322. I was very impressed with the cab. I would like to try one on a live gig, but I'm pretty sure that I like it better than my Berg HT322. I would have liked to A/B my cab with it. Based on my best recollections, the main difference to me other than apparent efficiency was the definitive solidness and articulation of the very low end (40Hz and below). When you really push the 322, the very bottom of its range seems a little bit looser (still very musical, but not quite as tight as the Schroeder). The midrange seemed comparable to the Berg and the high end was very nearly as smooth as the Berg. I think on the whole at a live venue, it might cut through a bit better than my cab (and mine is damn good).

With all that said, I've learned that the final word for any piece of musical gear is trying it out at a live music venue.

A very impressive cabinet.

I definitely have a new case of GAS.

Thanks for the mini-review! I am very impressed that the Schroeder cab can hang with and perhaps surpass the HT322 - which I consider to be a quite impressive cab.

Again, this wasn't a direct A/B and we checked everything out is a fairly large living room/dining room/kitchen open area.

It's really hard to quantify the degrees of difference with a different acoustic environment. I would say relatively small differences, but still noticable. Direct A/B would be more conclusive, but still just my opinion.

Lo-Freq...I think you'd really have to put your 322 side by side with the Schroeder to make the comparison.

I had the good fortune of visiting Low Down Sound in MI last week. I have a Hartke 4.5XL at home that I'm pretty happy with. I've only had it a little while and while I've compared it at home to my other cabinets, never noticed the infamous "voice" that these cabinets have.

When I was at Low Down Sound, I played through an Epi 3x10 (my favorite cabinet in the store), Aguilar GS-112, Berg 1x12, 322, 6x10, a few Ampegs, two Hartkes (2.5XL and the upright 2x12 (forget the name)) and a bunch of Low Down Sound's own cabinets. It wasn't until I experienced all of those different voicings that I heard what I believe people mean..that sort of nasal tin can sound that the Hartke's have. Yet, my 4.5XL at home doesn't sound like that.

I'm encouraged by the early reports on Jorg's handywork and look forward to reading more about them.

Here's a question for Jorg...

Unless the list is too long...where have you shipped cabinets in the US? I'm not asking for customer names, just cities... If there's one nearby and I can figure out how to get in touch with the owner, I could beg for a chance to play through one...

Thanks for your well-wishings, which I appreciate very much.
Currently there are no schroeder cabinets in the IL area, and, my list of bassists who are using this product is very, very short. As I've stated in my post yesterday, I do not intend to mass produce or to compete with anyone. The schroeders will be available on a small production scale. I am testing each cabinet diligently myself before I forward it to an interested party. Naturally, I am very happy that so far the few schroeder owners like their cabinet. So, again, if anyone has a question, please email me. I'll be glad to respond as fast as I can. It is not my intention to use this thread to advertise my cabs. Brian Barrett can also be of assistance in this matter.

I appreciate everyone's input here on TB.

Don't worry about your presence in this thread being taken as a marketing ploy...we keep asking questions...

As for the short customer list... I travel a bit on business so you never know where I'll turn up.

I guess that so far, there are Schroeders in:

California
New Jersey
Tennessee
Texas

Any in the Midwest (not just IL)...WI, IN, MI, OH, NE, MO, MN, etc?

I'm soooo sick of black t-shirts. Why do most bands and manufacturers want black t-shirts? Anyway, the Schroeder shirt is a very nice blue. Tastefully done.

Has anyone had the (I'm sure) pleasant opportunity to play through both Jorg Schroeder's cabs and Andy Lewis's Acme's?

Now I realize that it's been stated that Jorg's design seems to be a more efficient config right off the bat... and yes, I'm aware of Acme's rep for "power-hungriness"... but my curiosity is centered more on the tonality aspect.

In other words, all things being equal... "How does a Schroeder sound compared to an Acme?"

My rig is now 95% complete!!! (still wanting to find the right compressor... black finger is top choice at the moment and I think I'm gonna get a power conditioner to fit my one open space).

I've now got a Yamaha PB-1 into a Crown CE1000 into a Scroeder 1210

I only spent about half an hour with it last night (I didn't get home till almost 10pm)....but I'm in love!

Pictures and reviews after the weekend gigs :hyper:
