Schroeder Cabinets ... smart design = very compact ! (regular and lights)

The only problem I see with Schroeder cabinets is that most photos taken of the band playing onstage, the photographer will probably miss the rig completely because it's so short! :crying:

However, if I start touring all around, I want six Schroeder 310212s, along with two Traynor YBA200s, plus my Sunn Sceptre in a rig similar to this:

Replace the six Sunn 2x15s with six Schroeder 310212s, the bottom two 2000s heads with Traynor YBA200s, and the top with my Sunn Sceptre, as well as the Jazz bass with a longscale EB-3, Rickenbacker, or Precision bass.

Just the thought makes me happy in my pants. :hyper: :D

Then I think about the cost, and I get sad. :bawl:

I just used this rig:

live for the first time tonight and it rocked.

It was outside with no walls around and I still didnt feel the need to boost the bass. I could hear it form most anywhere I stood.

When I kicked in the overdrives it just destroyed. I didnt see one person in the audience even flinch because of the insane distortion being too harsh on the top end. It was very smooth while still being bright.

With the deep impact in it begged for more. Even the nice dub sounds were no problem for the cab.

Only thing I could ask for now is another so I can run a stereo rig. :hyper:

To say I'm way jazzed would be a decided understatement! First night in a local club, got there early to set up and scope things out. Sound guy immediately tells me he'll run me through the house since I won't cut it with my "half stack". The rest of the guys show up, and we convince him not to sweat it.

We bust into the first song, and heads turned. I was feeling pretty jazzed w/ the new gear and just closed my eyes and let it go. I doubt if I was pushing my 21012 halfway and it sounded great...fat, ballsy, make-you-tap-your-foot-and-move-your-butt bass. The band told me they heard me MUCH better than ever; it was just a VERY cool gig. I have to hand it to Jorg for making such an outstanding product. Money well spent.

PS OK, I didn't put it in the back seat on the way there. I stuck it in the trunk :)

Are those for sale yet?!? Why hasn't Jorg updated his site at all? (James?)

Anyways, how much was the cab?

I e-mailed Brian from The Low End and he got things in motion. :D

Its really not that hard to move that rig.

After my gig the other night, I stacked my cab (105lbs), head (80lbs), pedal board (15lbs), and backup bass and pushed it across a big parking lot, with my main bass slung over my shoulder.

I did a little experimenting with mine for 1st time (hadn't been able to locate the trim pot before -- doh! -- thanks for the pic).

I ran my PLX1602 into a pair of pretty good Sennheiser headphones.
I couldn't tell much difference at all between pretty low and all the way up other than the output volume.
It's difficult to try matching levels while tweaking without a db or electrical meter.
Seems like there might have been a little bit of HF reduction at lower levels, but I could say for sure without knowing that the output levels were matched between the two.

I ended up increasing it to max and then backing off about 5 or 10 degrees.
Since PLX's are a bit less sensitive than some other amps, I thought I would try this for awhile and see how it does.
I practiced with a different band today and I got the definite impression that my sound was punchier with a bit more clarity.
I made some tone settings changes, so I'm not sure if the increase in punch & clarity was because of my gain tweaking or tone tweaking.

It made me wish I had a stacked pair of Schroeder 410.
With my current settings and arrangment of tubes, kneeing down in front of the 410, the sound is really, incredibly awesome.

I took my newer Schroeder 1210 and Acoustic Image Focus 600 to my band's (one of four I gig with regularly) "dress rehearsal" for a gig we have next Saturday...first time we've played together in 5 weeks I believe so this latest venture in GAS was not sprung upon them until I arrived at rehearsal.

While they were "enthralled" by the AI, it's little footprint, cuteness etc., the real star of the show was the Schroeder. I knew it, maybe they didn't, but I did. Yeah the AI is cute, lightweight, and the coolest running head I've ever seen, but the tone and volume is projected by the cabinet. This 1210 is voiced just perfectly for me. Decent lows...we tune down a 1/2 step so my 5'er is tuned to Bb, Eb, Ab etc....I ran the attentuation at 12:00 on the knob. Nice low mids with plenty of punch without the high mid honk. And great but not overbearing highs.

It was a deep, punchy, and clean slappy all at the same time. did I mention loud? Cripe...I can't believe how much clean volume get's projected outta this little cabinet. It seems to me and as Brad J always concludes his comments with..."as always, I could be wrong," but the 1210 is probably just as loud and maybe just a little less beefy sounding than my former fav cab, an Epifani 212T, rectangular, original shaped model. Of course new they're $450+ more than the Schroeder and about 12 pounds heavier...the new UL's that is. My Epi 212 weighed in around 78 pounds. It really kicked ass. My guess is that a 1212 Schroe could pretty much stand up one to one with the bigger Epi cab, but again for significantly less dough and weight.

So I sold my LDS 2x8 cabs to a local blues oldies type of player, nice guy, has an SWR SM400? head and a 63 P bass that these cabs are just "made" for and sold my sunn 1200 S to a friend who's with a Motown Review type of band.

In the meantime, although the 4 pound Focus remains the center of attention in my rig, the star is again the little Schroeder that said "I can kick ass" with the best of 'em.

the other day when i went amp shopping Guitar Center happened to have just about every currently manufactured piece of ampeg gear hooked up to a an amp/cab selector(i dont know if they all have this, i try to shy away from that place). i could not seem to get a good sound out of most of the amps through any of the cabs anywhere from 8x10 to 1x15. but whatever i did play through a PR-410-HLF seemed to just sound heavenly, and i was EXTREMELY suprised because my idea of heavenly is my '72 B-15N. it seemed to have all the lows while maintaining all the highs i could ever need and staying really well rounded just like my B-15. which i thought was ironic because the 1x15 sounded like CRAP(literaly).

so my question would be: how does the Schroeder 1012(or any other Schroeder for that matter) stack up against the ampeg or even the B-15 for any of you who are familiar with the sound im after

i was almost set on the EA wizzy 112 because its supposed to be so flip-top like, but im hearing soooo many good things about these cabs

i think its particularly the $1,000 price tag of the Ampeg thats driving me away from it (and the $470 price tag of the wizzy thats driving me to it). and i see that a couple people that like the traynor YBA-200 head also like these cabs, and i have heard(never played) that the Traynor is somewhat like a "loud b-15"

sorry if this has been covered... i dont have the time or the attention span to read 74 pages...

Glad I didn't step in it. My guess is that the Schroeder 1210 is probably not gonna quite "do it" for you if you really like the 410 ampeg's tone, that is, unless once you hear these cabinets you say, as a lot of us seem to, "these little things are great."

I'd look into a 21012 for a more Legitimate comparison between a Schoeder and the 410 ampeg. I really believe that the 410 Schroeder is likely louder, more efficient, less cost and less weight, than the 410 Ampeg...it still boils down to whether you like the signiture tone/sound of the Schroeder as well or less than the 410 HLF.

I've only seen one person so far in all the comments and reviews who doesn't like the Schroeder sound. That's an unbelievably small %age compared to everything else out there.

What kinda music do you play? How big a band, how loud? etc. etc. Now regarding whether this cabinet sounds like a B15 Portaflex, I would say probably not. The question is whether the B15 sound in 2005's venues and bands is what you really want, have to have, etc etc.

thats kind of what i figured, though i have to say i dont really get that sifnature B-15N tone everyone thinks about when the think B-15, probably because its a '72 and not an early 60's one.

im playing mostly jazz with enough funk and R&B to make them weigh in my decision. i recently started playing with a small combo playing more R&B oriented jazz(not smooth jazz at all, yuck) id have to say im a HUGE fan of this guys tone

and i am able to get something very close to it with my own little flare. id call it punchy and slightly tube overdriven but still really warm with enough low end. ill probably start a new thread when i have played enough amps to need to make a decision. i just need to know if this cab will be able to support that kind of tone or if i should go with something more like a wizzy. i doubt ill spring a grand for just a cab alone with the ampeg... ever

if i ever have the means to, ill post some sound clips of me when i really get down to comeing close to buying something

speaking of which, can anyone get some clips of these(or direct me to any that have been posted withen this 75 page super thread)

With the right EQ'ing you might get there (or close enough), especially with a 1212, maybe even with just the tweeter cut off or way down.
You probably should talk to Jorg about what you are looking for.
