Schroeder Cabinets ... smart design = very compact ! (regular and lights)

Larry is absolutely right on. I've had my Schroeder 12/12 - AI Focus1 combination since November and have played over 40 gigs with it. I've never played through a setup that cuts through like this one. It's plenty loud enough for any situation and the tone is amazing. Fellow bassists usually ask "Hey man, where's your rig?" They are blown away when they see the small setup that's creating such a huge and clear sound.

Last week we did a classic car show gig where the venue provides PA support. The amp that runs their sub blew up at the start of the gig. My tiny AI/Schroeder combination came through loud and clear in a huge parking lot filled with hot rods and Harleys. I was so impressed that I have placed all of my other cabinets (they've been collecting dust) up for sale. I plan to get a second 12/12 to have as a back up just in case my original gets stolen or falls out of the back of our band trailer.

Hey Jorg. . . two cabinets sold. One more to go and I'll be seeing you.

Similarity?
They both use 4 10"drivers, and a tweeter.
Differences?
Almost everything else, punch, clarity, definition.
Oh well, my impression is based really on a comparaison I've made between my 1210 and my student's Xlt 210, but I think I can say it can apply also with the biggest cab, having had a 410xlt for some time.
They simply sounds different, in fact I've found Schroeder cabinets to sound different, in a good way, from everything else I've owned\tried (Eden, Swr, Parsek, Mark Bass, Aguilar, Epifani, Ebs...), it's just a fuller, beefier sound, but clear and with a great edge in the attack, without being too much aggressive...

Yes, they're in Italy also.
I bought a 1210 and cover basically after reading this thread, and exchanging email with Brian Barrett and Jorg Schroeder.
After that, 2 students bought a 1212 and a 1210, and last week the 1st italian dealer received his cabs (he's so amazed he's planning to retire his Epifani 3x10)...
The world is becoming a tiny place...

Ahh, k. The reason I ask is that many people say they have a similar low-mid bump to the Eden cabs. That's why I said similarities in tone. Just wondering if they sounded anywhere alike, as and Eden + warwick rig is probably my favourite sounding of all time... I just don't have the cash :p

Where Edens have a slight low mid bump, at the expense of mid presence, Schroeder cabs are fuller sounding.
They does have a 200-350hz bump, but all others frequencies are present, and that give a better projection of sound, and, with a little Eq, they can sound similar to others cabs, even if that doesn't do them justice.
If you haven't tried one, do it.
It could be a surprise!!!

Why would this "host" bass player think that a 410 and 212 guitar cab rig with a PA head be "adequate" for any gig as a bass rig.

Like I said this guy is a piano player, so it could very well be his 'best' bass rig. (He's not a real bass player, but one from Sears) He thinks it sounds great, and he is a bit hard to deal with, so I won't say anything to him, but he wasn't there anyway.

The fact that it's a jam, at least in my book, is no excuse to bring equipment that isn't your best.

I would agree, and I did for this particular one, but mostly I bring the super redhead cause I don't know who will show up. Most of the guys are reasonable, but sometimes there's a bonehead. I won't let anyone use my axe, unless I know them well. Usually all show up with their own bass.

With the Schroeder line, mini to superbig...there's no excuse for a "serious" gigging bassist to not have a great sounding cabinet.

Couldn't agree more. I think these guys have serious gas now. :p

I go to, have never heard of any of the brands of amps or speakers except the ones that GC and Sam Ash sell. They don't read Talkbass. They don't read Bass Player or other bass oriented mags and articles.

I feel that bringing my rig to jam sessions is my way helping increase awareness of different, and hopefully better sounding and better made cabs, speakers, heads, AND basses. It never ceases to amaze me how those active bass only players, I mean guys who are gigging once a week to 25 to 30 times a month, and have no idea how crummy and inconsistent they sound venue to venue.

I'd much rather have super tone and average chops, than have great chops that no one can hear or distinquish from the rest of the band. The thing is most players locally don't have "super" chops and then on top of it sound like crappola most of the time.

IMHO, the equipment's ability to consistently sound the same and EXCELLENT, venue to venue is what so far has made the Schroeder, AI, and MIke Lull combination the best I've used so far in a single cabinet/bass application. I've had multi cab rigs that may have been louder and have sounded close to as good in some of the venues I've played, but they all involve a much higher amount of wallet and muscle power yet don't consistently meet the sound quality or levels that the current rig does.

The more bass players are exposed to and become aware of great live sound, both bass and how bass fits into a band's mix overall, I really think the better off we'll all be as a group. Right now, for me, Schroeder has become the one cabinet standard almost "overnight." I've only seen one "bad" review out of all of 'em + the close to 2000 posts here. We can't all be crazy. It's not hype. :ninja:

Larry, at your recent posting rate...you're gonna OD on schroeder. You may want to contact help as soon as possible. :p

On a side note, I just ordered a 1210 and 4space rack from Jorg...so I may be in need of treatment soon as well :D

Hey Larry. . . I went to a blue's jam two Sunday's ago and decided to throw my AI/Schroeder rig in the van. When I arrived I saw the host's rig consisted of a Hartke 2-15" with a 4-10 sitting on top and some amp I've never heard of. The thing sounded boomy, muddy, and with no definition whatsoever.

When it was my turn to get up I asked the bass player if I could use my rig. At first he said there wasn't enough room for a second setup. I assured him I wouldn't take up much room and brought in my rig. Everyone was blown away. In fact, all of the bassists following me requested to use my rig. You're correct about the combination. I don't know much about the Mike Lull but my AI Focus, Schroeder 12-12, and my Sadowsky standard four combination kicks major butt.

I already have dependency counseling and obsessive compulsive personality traits. Mind as well try to make something positive out of it, eh?

I played in a room last Saturday that's "alive" to say the least. Extremely loud, boomy, all lows and highs, and nuttin' in between. I heard another band there 3 weeks ago where their bass player was using an Eden 550? head, and a 1 15 and a 210xlt bottom. He was using I believe a fender 5 string j bass or clone.

All mush. No definition, The only time you knew what he was playing was when he and the drummer did "Billie Jean" and when he slapped a couple of notes. I tilted the 1210 on it's side, and had enough cut through on everything we did. Got compliments from several singers who we're looking at to join our band and from our "normal" crowd. No problem hearing myself, no problem being heard with the rest of the band, and within the room but not overbearingly loud to do so.

What else can I say except my next obsessive behavior couseling is this saturday at our next gig.

LIke on a pull out shelf in a rack? I don't know how you would afix it to the shelf but I gotta believe there's a way to do it. What I've been doing (my case has not arrived yet....it was back ordered) is I took out my former head from my 4 rack and roll rack, and have been wrapping the AI in a very thick bath towel and shoving it into the empty two rackspaces. It doesn't move...trust me. I also do my own shlepping and this equipment gets absolutely no abuse, ever!!!

You should call Acoustic Image and ask them how to go about afixing it or call Jorg and see what he suggests.

Larry

Yes, Jorg is trying to find a way to allow Focus users to put it into his airhead version of the cab.
Given how well he works, I'm sure we will be surprised.
I use my Focus with his own carrying bag, I don't want a rack that outweight the amp...

I think you could put Velcro on the shelf and the bottom of the Focus.

Maybe use a piece of foam to support while moving it around.

Looks like Chris Chew from the North Mississippi All-stars is playing through a Schroeder now.....

I must share this, hope you don't mind Jorg, but Jorg happens to live 10 minutes from dear ol mom's house. I am going to visit my mother in two weeks for the fourth of July weekend. I called Jorg and asked if I could come down and pick up my new 1210 cab from him. He graciously invited me to come to his studio to check out the cab. I am looking forward to my visit to L.A. for many reasons. :hyper:
